Korean EFL learners' stylistic sensitivity was examined through the two types of letter writing, professional and personal. The base of comparison with the English native speakers' stylistic sensitivity was the linguistic style markers that were statistically found by Biber's (1988) multi-dimensional model of variation of English language. The main finding was that Korean university students were sensitive to stylistic difference in the correct direction, though their linguistic repertoire was limited to the easy and simple linguistic features. Also, the learners were skewed in the involved style in both types of the letters unlike the native speakers and it was interpreted as due to the general developmental direction from informal to formal linguistic style. Learners were also skewed in the explicit style in both types of letters unlike the native speakers and it was interpreted as due to the learners' heavy reliance on one particular linguistic feature. As a whole, the learners' stylistic sensitivity heavily relied on the small number of linguistic features that they have already acquired, which happen to be simple and basic linguistic features.

The character dialogue created by AI is unnatural when compared with human-made dialogue, and it can not reveal the character's personality properly in spite of remarkable development of AI. The purpose of this paper is to classify characters through the linguistic style and to investigate the relation of the specific linguistic style with the personality. We analyzed the dialogues of 92 characters selected from total 60 movies categorized four movie genres, such as romantic comedy, action, comedy and horror/thriller, using Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC), a text analysis software. As a result, we confirmed that there is a unique language style according to genre. Especially, we could find that the emotional tone than analytical thinking are two important features to classify. They were analyzed as very important features for classification as the precision and recall is over 78% for romantic comedy and action. However, the precision and recall were 66% and 50% for comedy and horror/thriller. Their impact on classification was less than romantic comedy and action genre. The characters of romantic comedy deal with the affection between men and women using a very high value of emotional tone than analytical thinking. The characters of action genre who need rational judgment to perform mission have much greater analytical thinking than emotional tone. Additionally, in the case of comedy and horror/thriller, we analyzed that they have many kinds of characters and that characters often change their personalities in the story.

온라인 리뷰는 소비자의 구매 의사결정에 중요한 역할을 하기 때문에 소비자의 지각된 리뷰 유용성에 영향을 미치는 리뷰 요인을 확인하는 것이 필요하다. 그러나 온라인 리뷰의 유용성에 대한 대부분의 기존 연구는 주로 리뷰 및 리뷰어 속성과 같은 정량적 요인에 중점을 두고 있다. 최근 연구에서는 리뷰 콘텐츠과 언어 스타일이 소비자의 구매 의사결정에 미치는 영향을 조사했다. 또한, 소비자가 의사결정 과정에서 리뷰를 평가할 때 추가적으로 리뷰 텍스트 속성들을 고려해야 한다고 주장하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 온라인 리뷰 맥락에서 리뷰 콘텐츠과 언어 스타일이 리뷰 유용성에 미치는 영향을 조사하고자 한다. 추가적으로 리뷰어의 전문성이 리뷰 콘텐츠 및 언어 스타일과 리뷰 유용성 간의 영향관계를 조절하는지 여부를 조사했다. 연구결과 긍정적인 리뷰 콘텐츠는 리뷰 유용성에 부정적인 영향을 미치고, 부정적인 리뷰 콘텐츠와 언어적 스타일은 리뷰 유용성에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 리뷰어의 전문성은 부정적인 리뷰 콘텐츠와 언어 스타일이 리뷰 유용성에 미치는 영향을 완화시키는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 온라인 전자상거래 기업이 리뷰 유용성에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하고 이를 마케팅 전략에 반영하여 기업 매출 성장을 달성하는데 시사점을 제공할 수 있다.

본 연구는 수학학습양식(백희수, 2009) 요인 중 인지적 학습양식의 정보인식 유형에 따라 학습자를 시각적 학습자와 언어적 학습자로 구분한 뒤, 각 유형의 학습자들이 인수분해 학습에서 개념을 이해하고 문제를 해결하며 일정한 시간이 지난 뒤 학습방법을 기억하는 데 어떤 차이가 있는지 알아보기 위해 수행되었다. 인수분해 교수-학습방법으로는 대수막대와 공식을 활용하였으며, 시각적/언어적 학습양식을 알아보는 두 가지의 검사지를 이용하여 중학교 2학년 학습자 116명(남 74, 여 42)을 대상으로 정보인식 유형을 조사하고, 두 검사지의 결과가 모두 동일한 양식으로 나온 학습자를 각 유형별로 2명씩 선정하였다. 이들을 대상으로 사전 인터뷰와 진단평가를 실시하고, 1차시의 준비학습과 5차시의 본 수업을 실행하였으며, 모든 수업을 마친 뒤 1차 사후 인터뷰를 실시하였고 일정한 시간이 지난 뒤에는 형성평가와 2차 사후 인터뷰를 실시하였다. 본 연구에서 수집된 자료를 분석함으로써 얻어진 결과를 통해 정보인식 유형에 따라 학습자마다 기억하거나 사용하는 학습방법에 차이가 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 시각적 학습자는 시각적이고 구체적인 조작방법을, 언어적 학습자는 언어적이고 형식적인 조작방법을 더 잘 기억하고 사용한다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 방정식과 함수를 포함하는 수학의 여러 분야에서 중요하게 이용되는 인수분해 학습에서 학습 효과를 향상시키기 위해서는 정보인식 유형이 다른 학생들을 고려하여 대수막대와 공식을 활용한 교수-학습방법이 적절히 이루어져야 한다고 제안하였다.

In this paper, a style-based approach to translating literary texts is introduced and used. The aim of the study is to work out a stylistic approach to translating literary texts from Arabic into English. The approach proposed in the current study is a combination of four major stylistic approaches, namely linguistic stylistics, literary stylistics, affective stylistics and cognitive stylistics. It has been shown from data analysis that by adopting a style-based approach that can draw from the four stylistic approaches, translators, as special text readers, can easily derive a better understanding and appreciation of texts, in particular literary texts. Further, it has been shown that stylistics as an approach is objective in terms of drawing evidence from the text to support the argument for the important stylistic features and their functions. However, it loses some of its objectivity and becomes dependent and subjective.

본 논문은 한국어와 영어 성별어(genderlect)에 관한 비교연구이다. 성별어란 성(gender)의 차이가 언어에 반영된 현상을 말한다. 일반적으로 여성의 언어가 남성의 언어와 다르며, 이러한 차이가 성차별의 원인이나 증거가 된다는 것에 초점이 맞추어져서 연구가 이루어져 왔다. 본 논문은 성별어 중 여성발화의 특성을 영어와 한국어의 영화와 드라마 대사를 분석하여 알아보고자 하였다. 영어자료에서는 여성어가 주로 어휘 즉, 명사, 형용사, 부사의 사용과 관련하여 나타났으나, 한국어 자료에서는 어휘 뿐 아니라 한국어 경어법의 최고단계인 '합쇼체'와 관련하여 여성이 익숙치 않다는 특성이 드러났다. 일반적으로 공손발화에서는 영어나 한국어 모두 여성발화가 공손표현의 특징과 유사한데, 한국 여성들은 경어법에서 아주높임단계를 선호하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 한국어와 영어의 성별어의 특징이 공손표현이라는 측면에서는 일반적으로 공유하는 부분이 많지만, 한국 여성들의 경우에는 공손어법 중 경어법의 최고 단계인 '합쇼체'보다는 '해요체'를 선호하는 부분을 주목하였다. 이는 성별어의 세계 보편적인 특성과 개별 문화의 차이가 드러나는 부분이라 하겠다.

조형적 실체로 구체화되는 디자인의 본질을 좀 더 정확히 파악하기 위하여 디자인 양식에 대해 고찰하였다. 우선 디자인 양식에 대한 어원적 유래와 의미에 대하여 탐구함으로써 디자인 양식의 독특한 성격을 이해하는데 주력했다. 이를 토대로 하여 우미 양식, 기계양식, 표현양식을 집중적으로 고찰하여 디자인 양식의 유형을 정립하고, 각 양식이 지니고 있는 특수성을 파악하여, 그것이 디자인의 가치 창출과 어떤 상관관계를 이루고 있는가를 밝히려는데 초점을 맞추었다. 끝으로 디자인 양식의 변화요인에 대해 알아보고, 양식의 변화가 디자인 발전에 미치는 영향과 방향을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study was to apply the learning clinic program to the maladjusted children to help the cognitive processing style, sense type and learning strategy. The results were as follows. First, the cognitive processing style of low-grade elementary school children is divided into the concept of sequential low-order style, which analyzes information sequentially and consecutively, concrete thinking style that processes real and direct information coming in from outside, and invisible principle or information. The abstract cognitive thinking style improved after the process before the program proceeded. However, There was no meaningful result in the simultaneous processing cognitive style which had excellent intuition and emotion and likes change. Second, the temporal lobe in which the linguistic activity is viewed, heard and spoken in the sensory type, the function of the occipital lobe in which the character or the language is processed is improved, but the function of the parietal lobe in moving and manipulating the body is not significant. Finally, factors that contribute to learning such as sincerity, learning initiative, study method, study habits, and concentration are helpful in learning and school life.

The article explores linguo-stylistic influence markers in essayistic texts. The novelty of this investigation is provided by its perspective. Essayism is looked at as a style of thinking and writing and studied as a holistic philosophical and cultural phenomenon, as a revalent form of comprehension of reality that features non-lasting author's judgements and enhancement of the author's voice in the text. Based on the texts by V. Rosanov, G.K. Chesterton, and D. Dontsov, the remarkable English, Russian, and Ukrainian essay-writers of the first party of the 20th century, the article tracks the typical ontological-and-existentialist correlation at the content, stylistic, and semantic levels. It is observed in terms of the ideas presented in the texts of these publicists and the lexicostylistic markers of the influence on the reader that enable these ideas to implement. The explored poetic syntax, key lexemes, dialogueness, intonational melodics, specific language, free associations, aphoristic nature, verbalization of emotions and feeling in the psycholinguistic form of their expression, stress, heroic elevation, metaphors and evaluative linguistic units in the ontological-and-existentialist aspects contribute to extremely delicate and demanding nature of the essayistic style. They create a "lacework" of unpredictable properties, intellectual illumination, unexpected similarity, metaphorical freshness, sudden discoveries, unmotivated unities.

This letter presents a prediction model for sentence-final intonations for Korean conversational-style text-to-speech systems in which we introduce the linguistic feature of 'modality' as a new parameter. Based on their function and meaning, we classify tonal forms in speech data into tone types meaningful for speech synthesis and use the result of this classification to build our prediction model using a tree structured classification algorithm. In order to show that modality is more effective for the prediction model than features such as sentence type or speech act, an experiment is performed on a test set of 970 utterances with a training set of 3,883 utterances. The results show that modality makes a higher contribution to the determination of sentence-final intonation than sentence type or speech act, and that prediction accuracy improves up to 25% when the feature of modality is introduced.
