Development of a Geometry PIG for the Inspection of Natural Gas Pipeline and It´s application

  • The geometry PIG provides pipeline operators with continuous measurement of pipe centerline coordinates, bend radius, displacement, and bending strain in a single pass through the pipeline. This study introduces the developed geometry PIG(Pipeline Inspection Gauge) which is used for geometry surveys. This tool is equipped with the several sensor systems. The Inertial Navigation System (INS) comprises angle rate gyros and linear accelerometers. The system measures the precise path of the PIG during its traverse of the pipeline.   • In this paper, a mechanical probe for CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) with a three-axis force-sensing unit is proposed, which is capable of measuring an actual contact position without the lobbing effect and the pre-travel error. The force-sensing unit detects the external force, which is act on the stylus of CMM during the measuring process. Thus, the contact point of the stylus of CMM can be estimated ken the direction of measured force components. Based on the structural analysis of the proposed CMM probe, the transformation matrix is derived and calibrated so that it shows linear relationships between the estimated force components from the output voltages and the real input forces. And, the relationships are verified through the computer simulation. The results show that the proposed mechanical probe is very useful fur detecting the contacting force components on measuring process of CMM.

  • Automatic gauge control algorithm in rolling process is composed of several functions. Among them feedforward control method is used to compensate irregularity of input strip thickness before rolling process. Since it's very difficult to get an explicit relation between the degree of irregularity of input strip and manipulated variables, approximate linear equation like straight line is used in real system. Furthermore parameters included in such static equation should be changed by characteristics of input strip and modified by roll states. Despite this problem, rolling process use variables in feedfroward controller as a constant. Therefore this problem increases the possibilities of irregularity of thickness control. This paper presents an algorithm which can properly infer present states of process and intelligently manipulate the parameter of feedforward controller.

  • This paper presents annealing characteristics of CrN thin-film strain gauges, which were deposited on glass by DC reactive magnetron sputtering in an argon-nitrogen atmosphere)Ar-(5-~25%)$N_2$. The physical and electrical characteristics of these films investigated with the thickness range 3500$\AA$ of CrN thin films, annealing temperature (100~30$0^{\circ}C$) and annealing time (24-72hr) . The optimized condition of CrN thin-film strain gauges were thickness range of 3500$\AA$ and annealing condition(30$0^{\circ}C$ , 48hr) in Ar-10%$N_2$ deposition atmosphere. Under optimum conditions, the CrN thin-films for strain gauge is obtained a high resistivity, $\rho$=1147.65$\Omega$cm a low temperature coefficient of 11.17. And change in resistance after annealing for the CrN thin film were quitely linear and stable.

  • The brushless DC motor(BLDCM) is widely used in many applications. One of the application of the BLDCM is the stage which is one of process in the semiconductor manufacturing processes. Very high performance is required in the stage process. In this paper, the 1 degree of freedom positioning system for the basic technology of the stage is studied. The linearization method is proposed to make the controller design procedures easy by measuring the thrust force ripple using the strain gauge. And through the experiments, it is proved that the inner velocity control loop is necessary to make more precise positioning control system.

Multistress Life Models of Epoxy Encapsulated Magnet wire under High Frequency Pulsating Voltage

  • This paper presents an attempt to develop probabilistic multistress life models to evaluate the lifetime characteristics of epoxy-encapsulated magnet wire with heavy build polyurethane enamel. A set of accelerated life tests were conducted over a wide range of pulsating voltages, temperatures, and frequencies. Samples of fine gauge twisted pairs of the encapsulated magnet wire were tested us-ing a pulse endurance dielectric test system. An electrical-thermal lifetime function was combined with the Weibull distribution of lifetimes. The parameters of the combined Weibull-electrical-thermal model were estimated using maximum likelihood estimation. Likewise, a generalized electrical-thermal-frequency life model was also developed. The parameters of this new model were estimated using multiple linear regression technique. It was found in this paper that lifetime estimates of the two proposed probabilistic multistress life models are good enough. This suggests the suitability of using the general electrical-thermal-frequency model to estimate the lifetime of the encapsulated magnet wire over a wide range of voltages, temperatures and pulsating frequencies.

  • In this paper, a robot automation technology for chemical tank lorry unloading is presented. Handling chemical coupler between tank lorry and ACQC system may be hazardous or toxic to human operators, therefore robot automation is essential. Due to tight tolerance between couplers, even small pose error may result in very large internal force. In order to resolve the problem, compliance between male and female couplers should be introduced with 6-axis compliance device with F/T sensing. The proposed robot automation system consists of a collaborative robot, 6-ax is compliance device with F/T sensing, linear gripper, and robot vision. The position/force control algorithm and experimental results for assembling chemical couplers are presented.

개량형 점하중강도시험기의 개발 (Development of an Improved Point Load Apparatus)

  • 기존의 점하중시험기는 재하점간 중심축의 일치성에서 문제가 발생하는 경우가 존재하며 압력게이지를 통해서 시료에 가해지는 하중을 산정하기 때문에 정확성이 결여될 수 있는 단점이 있다. 본 연구는 원추판을 저항판과 함께 밀어 올리는 방식을 사용하고 지지 연마봉에 선형베어링을 장착하여 연속적으로 반복되는 시험에도 재하점의 축간 편심오차를 0.1 mm 이하로 유지한 개량형 점하중시험기를 개발하였다. 또한 반복되는 시험에서 재하점간의 거리를 자동으로 측정하고 편심오차를 확인하기 위하여 두 개의 디지털게이지를 부착하였다. 상부 원추판 끝단에 장착한 로드셀은 시료에 가해지는 순수 하중을 측정하여 압력계 방식인 기존의 점하중시험기가 가지는 단점을 보완하였다. 개발된 개량형 점하중시험기는 화성암, 편마암, 셰일에서 선택된 표준 코어시료에 대하여 총 107회의 점하중강도시험을 수행하고 품질과 성능이 검증되었다.

방사선측정치를 이용한 아스콘 포장 및 노상의 현장밀도와 함수비 측정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Determination of Density and Moisture Content of Asphalt Concrete Pavement and Subgrade Using Nuclear Density Meter)

  • The objective of this study was to determine the criteria for density and moisture content measurements made with a nuclear density meter on common materials in the construction field. The study also sought to test a full-type nuclear density meter in controlling the density of overlay layers( 2.5~5.0cm). In order to determine the accuracy and reliablility of nuclear guage measurements made on construction materials, laboratory and field tests were conducted. Wooden blocks( 65 x 45 ${\times}$ 50 cm) and a special steel compactor( 4.7kg) were constructed in order to carry out tests which were conducted on three different materials; coarse gramed soil, fine grained soil, and AC material. Throughout all laboratory and field tests, the nuclear density and moisture content were determined using Humboldt 5OOLP nuclear gauge. The tests on subgrade material entailed obtaining density measurements by means of both the sand replacement method and the nuclear density meter. The results of the sand replacement method were then compared to the readings recorded bu the meter. As in the subgrade material tests, density measurements made during AC pavement tests were also determined using the unclear meter in addition to a second means; through the core method. The meter readings and core densties were compared as was done in the tests on subgrade materials. The correlation between the results of the sand replacement test( also, the core method) and meter readings on subgrade material was then determined. Sirnilarly, the observed results were then analyzed through linear regression. The tests to determine thin-lift density by means of a full-type nuclear density meter also conducted on the overlay layers( about 4. 8cm thickness) above AC pavements at road construction sities in Korea.

농업용 이동편의장치를 위한 발로 미는 힘을 감지하는 센서 구현 (Implementation of a Sensor to Detect the Foot-pushing Force for an Agricultural Transport-convenience Vehicle)

  • In this paper, we propose a sensor with a C-shaped load cell to detect force change when a person sitting on the chair in an electrical transport-convenience vehicle is pushing ground by both heels. The load cell built in the vehicle is mechanically deformed by the vertical force owing to the human weight and the horizontal force by ground-pushing feet. The deformation rate of the load cell and its distribution are simulated using finite element analysis. In the simulation, the applied loads are preset in the range of 10 kg - 100 kg with a step size of 10 kg, and the ground-pushing force by feet is increased to 40 N with a step size of 5 N with respect to each applied load level. The resistance change of the load cell was observed to be linear in simulation as well as in measurement. the maximum difference between simulation and measurement was 0.89 % when the strain gauge constant was 2.243. The constant has a large influence on the difference. The proposed sensor was fabricated by connecting an instrument amplifier and a microcontroller to a load cell and used to detect the force by ground-pushing feet. To detect foot driving, the reference signal was set to 130% of the load, and the duration of the sensor output signal exceeding the reference signal was set to 0.6 s. In a test of a vehicle built with the proposed sensor, the footpushing force by the worker could be successfully detected even when the worker was working.
