Fastening systems have a significant role in the response of railway slab track systems. Although experimental tests indicate nonlinear behavior of fastening systems, they have been simulated as a linear spring-dashpot element in the available literature. In this paper, the influence of the nonlinear behavior of fastening systems on the slab track response was investigated. In this regard, a nonlinear model of vehicle/slab track interaction, including two commonly used fastening systems (i.e., RFFS and RWFS), was developed. The time history of excitation frequency of the fastening system was derived using the short time Fourier transform. The model was validated, using the results of a comprehensive field test carried out in this study. The frequency response of the track was studied to evaluate the effect of excitation frequency on the railway track response. The results obtained from the model were compared with those of the conventional linear model of vehicle/slab track interaction. The effects of vehicle speed, axle load, pad stiffness, fastening preload on the difference between the outputs obtained from the linear and nonlinear models were investigated through a parametric study. It was shown that the difference between the results obtained from linear and nonlinear models is up to 38 and 18 percent for RWFS and RFFS, respectively. Based on the outcomes obtained, a nonlinear to linear correction factor as a function of vehicle speed, vehicle axle load, pad stiffness and preload was derived. It was shown that consideration of the correction factor compensates the errors caused by the assumption of linear behavior for the fastening systems in the currently used vehicle track interaction models.
Using a strain-controlled rheometer [Advanced Rheometric Expansion System (ARES)], the steady shear flow properties and the dynamic viscoelastic properties of $Antiphlamine-S^{(R)}$ lotion have been measured at $20^{\circ}C$ (storage temperature) and $37^{\circ}C$ (body temperature). In this article, the temperature dependence of the linear viscoelastic behavior was firstly reported from the experimental data obtained from a temperature-sweep test. The steady shear flow behavior was secondly reported and then the effect of shear rate on this behavior was discussed in detail. In addition, several inelastic-viscoplastic flow models including a yield stress parameter were employed to make a quantitative evaluation of the steady shear flow behavior, and then the applicability of these models was examined by calculating the various material parameters. The angular frequency dependence of the linear viscoelastic behavior was nextly explained and quantitatively predicted using a fractional derivative model. Finally, the strain amplitude dependence of the dynamic viscoelastic behavior was discussed in full to elucidate a nonlinear rheological behavior in large amplitude oscillatory shear flow fields. Main findings obtained from this study can be summarized as follows : (1) The linear viscoelastic behavior is almostly independent of temperature over a temperature range of $15{\sim}40^{circ}C$. (2) The steady shear viscosity is sharply decreased as an increase in shear rate, demonstrating a pronounced Non-Newtonian shear-thinning flow behavior. (3) The shear stress tends to approach a limiting constant value as a decrease in shear rate, exhibiting an existence of a yield stress. (4) The Herschel-Bulkley, Mizrahi-Berk and Heinz-Casson models are all applicable and have an equivalent validity to quantitatively describe the steady shear flow behavior of $Antiphlamine-S^{(R)}$ lotion whereas both the Bingham and Casson models do not give a good applicability. (5) In small amplitude oscillatory shear flow fields, the storage modulus is always greater than the loss modulus over an entire range of angular frequencies tested and both moduli show a slight dependence on angular frequency. This means that the linear viscoelastic behavior of $Antiphlamine-S^{(R)}$ lotion is dominated by an elastic nature rather than a viscous feature and that a gel-like structure is present in this system. (6) In large amplitude oscillatory shear flow fields, the storage modulus shows a nonlinear strain-thinning behavior at strain amplitude range larger than 10 % while the loss modulus exhibits a weak strain-overshoot behavior up to a strain amplitude of 50 % beyond which followed by a decrease in loss modulus with an increase in strain amplitude. (7) At sufficiently large strain amplitude range (${\gamma}_0$>100 %), the loss modulus is found to be greater than the storage modulus, indicating that a viscous property becomes superior to an elastic character in large shear deformations.
Linear motor is characterized by its high velocity, high acceleration and good positioning accuracy. In recent years, linear motor is often used as a fast feed mechanism for high-speed machine tools. For the effective application of linear motors to machine tools, many demands on machine conceptions must be fulfilled. In this paper, some important construction concepts such as bending deformation of machine table, frictional force on the linear guidance and thermal behavior of linear motors are presented.
This paper investigates the causal relationships between financial attitudes, spending behaviors and the financial satisfaction of adolescent consumers. The study used Cronbach' $\alpha$, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, multiple regression and path analysis for statistical analysis and applied it to 1,252 questionnaires. The results are summarized as follows: Path analysis revealed that the financial satisfaction of adolescents had a direct linear relationship with variables such as grade, sex, financial attitudes. (financial situation compared to past and financial situation compared to others) and types of spending behaviors (planned, conspicuous and excessive). Planned spending behavior was the most influential variable on financial satisfaction. Planned spending behavior had positive linear relationship with the attitude toward the past financial situation. Conspicuous spending behavior had positive linear relationships with the attitudes toward the past financial situation and the financial situation compared to others. However, it showed negative relationship with the attitude toward a future financial situation. Impulsive spending behavior had a positive relationship with the attitude toward others' financial situation. Excessive spending had a positive relationship with the attitude toward a past financial situation but showed a negative relationship to the attitude toward others' financial situation.
In this paper the dynamic behavior of an isolated building subjected to idealized near-fault pulses is investigated. The building is represented with a simple 2-DOF model. Both linear and non-linear behavior of the isolation system is considered. Using dimensional analysis, in conjunction with closed form mathematical idealized pulses, appropriate dimensionless parameters are defined and self-similar curves are plotted on dimensionless graphs, based on which various conclusions are reached. In the linear case, the role of viscous damping is examined in detail and the existence of an optimum value of damping along with its significant variation with the number of half-cycles is shown. In the nonlinear case, where the behavior of the building depends on the amplitude of the excitation, the benefits of dimensional analysis are evident since the influence of the dimensionless 𝚷-terms is easily examined. Special consideration is given to the normalized strength of the non-linear isolation system that appears to play a complex role which greatly affects the response of the 2-DOF. In the last part of the paper, a comparison of the responses to idealized pulses between a linear fixed-base SDOF and the respective isolated 2-DOF with both linear and non-linear damping is conducted and it is shown that, under certain values of the superstructure and isolation system characteristics, the use of an isolation system can amplify both the normalized acceleration and displacement of the superstructure.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the behavior of a reinforced earth wall by modeling the properties of the interface between soil and reinforced elements as well as the non-linear stress-strain characteristics of soil. The effect of lateral earth pressures induced during construction is also included in the analyses. The interface element used to evaluate the relative movement of the interface between soil/reinforcement and soil/wall- facing has a zero thickness and essentially consists of normal and shear springs. The behavior of soil element is calculated based on the hyperbolic model. The computer program SSCOMPPC which includes the interface element, hyperbolic model and bi-linear model is applied in this study. From the analyses, it is showed that the locus of maximum tension were closed to the hi-linear failure line of theoretical analyses. The lateral displacement of SSCOMPPC is larger than that of the FLAC which adopts the elastic model. This means the analysis which is adopted the hyperbolic model and interface element induced more larger displacement.
In this paper, we present an observer-based robust controller which achieves not only robust stability but also an performance robustness for linear uncertain discrete-time systems. The performance robustness means that comparing the transient behavior of the uncertain system with a desired one generated by the nominal system, the deterioration of control performance (i.e. the error between the real response and the desired one) is suppressed without excessive control input. The control law consists of a state feedback law for the nominal system and a compensation input given by a feedback form of an estimated error signal. In this paper, we show that conditions for the existence of the observer-based controller are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the proposed technique.
Recently, many researchers are studying a high-strength concrete, composite materials and composite structures to build structures more economic and stable all over the world. For instance, there is CFTA(Concrete Filled and Tied Steel Tubular Arch) girder that applies an arch structure and a pre-stressed structure to CFT(Concrete Filled Steel Tubular) Structure to maximize the efficiency of structure and economic. In this study, linear-elastic behavior analysis of CFTA gider filled with high-strength concrete was performed by using ABAQUS 6.5-1 and also the result was analyzed.

This paper deals with the comparison and dynamic behavior of a moving-coil linear oscillatory actuator (MCLOA) with/without a mechanical spring. On the basis of a dynamic simulation model, the dynamic characteristics such as a current and a stroke of the MCLOA without the spring are predicted for various values of frequency. And then, dynamic test results are given to confirm the dynamic simulations. Finally, this paper describes the influence of the spring on the dynamic behavior of the MCLOA from the dynamic experiments of the MCLOA with/without the spring.
The release of residual stress by mechanical loading and unloading is often performed in the fabrication of box structure fur steel bridge. The proper degree of loading and unloading is significant at release method of residual stress by mechanical loading because that degree is changed by material and geometric shape of welded structure. Therefore, the simulation model that could exactly analyze the release of residual stress by mechanical loading is to be necessary. In this study, the non-linear behavior of weldments under external loading and unloading, such as the decrease and increase of structure stiffness, was investigated by monitoring of nominal stress and strain. Tensile loading and unloading test and the proper degree of stress relaxation was measured by sectioning technique using strain gauge. Analysis model that is indispensable for the effective application of MSR method was established on the basis of test and measurement result.
