  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm to extract rectangular object area such 3s Data Matrix two-dimensional barcode using edge tracing-based linear feature detection. Hough transform is usually employed to detect lines of edge map. However, it requires parametric image space, and does not find the location of end points of the detected lines. Our algorithm detects end points of the detected lines using edge tracing and extracts object area using its shape information.

  • We consider an extension of the multiple choice linear knapsack problem and develop a fast algorithm of order $O(r_{max}n^2)$ by exploiting some new properties, where $r_{max}$ is the largest multiple choice number and n is the total number of variables. The proposed algorithm has convenient structures for the post-optimization in changes of the right-hand-side and multiple choice numbers. A numerical example is presented.

  • By finding some new properties, we develop an O($r_{max}n^2$) algorithm for the generalized multiple choice linear knapsack problem where $r_{max}$ is the largest multiple choice number and n is the total number of variables. The proposed algorithm can easily be embedded in a branch-and-bound procedure due to its convenient structure for the post-optimization in changes of the right-hand-side and multiple choice numbers. A numerical example is presented.

  • This study presents work to utilize RADARSAT SAR image for forecast oil slick trajectory movement. The fractal dimension algorithm used to detect oil slick. The Doppler frequency shift and quasi-linear model was used to simulate a current pattern from RADARSAT image. The Fay’s algorithm of oil slick spreading was developed based on a Doppler frequency shift model. Thus, the study shows that fractal dimension algorithm discriminated the oil slick from the surrounding water features. The quasi-linear model shows that the current pattern can be simulated from single RADARSAT image. The oil slick trajectory model shows that after 48 hrs, the oil slick parcels deposited along the coastal waters.

  • In this paper, a face recognition algorithm system using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is proposed. The algorithm recognized a person by comparing characteristics (features) of the face to those of known individuals of Intelligent Control Laboratory (ICONL) face database. Simulations are carried out to investigate the algorithm recognition performance, which classified the face as a face or non-face and then classified it as known or unknown one. Particularly, a Principal Components of Linear Discriminant Analysis (PCA + LDA) face recognition algorithm is also proposed in order to confirm the recognition performances and the adaptability of a proposed PCA for a certain specific system.

  • This paper presents a step length estimation algorithm for Pedestrian Dead Reckoning using linear calibrated ZUPT (zero velocity update) with a foot mounted IMU. The IMU consists of 3 axis accelerometer, gyro and magnetometer. Attitude of IMU is estimated using an inertial navigation algorithm. To increase accuracy of step length estimation algorithm, we propose a stance detection algorithm and an enhanced ZUPT. The enhanced ZUPT calculates firefighter's step length considering velocity error caused by sensor bias during one step. This algorithm also works efficiently at various motions, such as crawling, sideways and stair stepping. Through experiments, the step length estimation performance of the proposed algorithm is verified.

  • The harmony search method based optimum design algorithm is presented for geometrically non-linear semi-rigid steel frames. Harmony search method is recently developed metaheuristic algorithm which simulates the process of producing a musical performance. The optimum design algorithm aims at obtaining minimum weight steel frames by selecting from standard set of steel sections such as European wide flange beams (HE sections). Strength constraints of Turkish Building Code for Steel Structures (TS648) specification and displacement constraints were used in the optimum design formulation. The optimum design algorithm takes into account both the geometric non-linearity of the frame members and the semi-rigid behaviour of the beam-to-column connections. The Frye-Morris polynomial model is used to calculate the moment-rotation relation of beam-to-column connections. The robustness of harmony search algorithm, in comparison with genetic algorithms, is verified with two benchmark examples. The comparisons revealed that the harmony search algorithm yielded not only minimum weight steel frames but also required less computational effort for the presented examples.

  • The Kalman filter is a recursive Linear Estimator for the linear dynamic systems(LDS) affected by two different noises called process noise and measurement noise both of which are uncorrelated white. The Expectation Maximization(EM) algorithm is employed in this paper as a preprocessor to reinforce the effectiveness of Kalman estimator. Particularly, we focus on the relation between Kalman filter and EM algorithm in the LDS. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to improve the performance on the parameter estimation via EM algorithm, which improves the overall process of Kalman filtering. Since Kalman filter algorithm not only needs the system parameters but also is very sensitive the initial state conditions, the initial conditions decided through EM turns out to be very effective. In experiments, the computer simulation results ate provided to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient datapath placement algorithm to minimize track density. Here, we consider each datapath element as a cluster, and merge the most strongly connected two clusters to a new cluster until only one cluster remains. As nodes in the two clusters to be merged are already linearly ordered respectively, we can merge two clusters with connecting them. The proposed algorithm produces circular linear ordering by connecting starting point and end point of the final cluster, and n different linear ordering by cutting between two contiguous elements of the circular linear ordering. Among the n different linear ordering, the linear ordering to minimize track density is final solution. In this paper, we show and utilize that if two clusters are strongly connected in a graph, the inner product of the corresponding vectors mapped in d-dimensional space using spectral method is maximum. Compared with previous datapath placement algorithm GA/S $A^{[2]}$, the proposed algorithm gives similar results with much less computation time.

  • This study aims to suggest new algorithm, named as Simoo, in order to improve spatial conflicts and vector displacement between linear features in generalization of the linear features. Main principles of Simoo algorithm is adoption of simplification and smoothening methods. Tolerance conditions used in Simoo are perpendicular length, external angle, and average vertex length. Main characteristics of Simoo are the application of scale, cartographic refinement, minimization of logical errors, and maintenance of geographical properties. The Simoo was applied through comparison to existing Douglas-Peucker algorithm. Resultantly, maintenance ratios of line such as coastal line and stream network were over 97% in both algorithms. The elimination ratio of vertex points may be more effective in Douglas-Peucker than in Simoo. Spatial conflicts between linear features may be more minimized in Simoo. The curvature and smoothening of lines become decreased in scale in application of Simoo. Finally, Simoo algorithm may be more effective than Douglas-Peucker for cartographic generalization.
