In this paper, the Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy state estimation scheme, which is suggested for a steady state estimator using standard Kalman filter theory with uncertainties. In that case, the steady state with uncertain can be represented by the TS fuzzy model structure, which is further rearranged to give a set of uncertain linear model using standard Kalman filter theory. And then the unknown uncertainty is regarded as an additive process noise. To optimize fuzzy system, we utilize the genetic algorithm. The steady state solutions can be found for proposed linear model then the linear combination is used to derive a global model. The proposed state estimator is demonstrated on a truck-trailer.

A non-linear mathematical model has been developed for the dynamic analysis of the reactor internals. The model includes a lumped mass and stiffness with non-linear members such as gap-spring. As hydrodynamic couplings have also been considered in the model, the effect of fluid/structure interaction between internals components due to their immersion in a confining fluid can be studied for the dynamic response analysis. The reactor internals responses for seismic and pipe break excitations have been calculated for the case of with-and without-hydrodynamic couplings.

This paper proposes a LuGre Model-Based Neural Network (MBNN) friction compensation algorithm for a linear motor stage. For matching the friction phenomena in both the motion-start region and the motion-reverse region, the LuGre dynamic model is employed into the proposed compensation algorithm. After training of the model-based neural network is completed, the estimated friction for compensation is obtained. From the obtained result we find that the new structure gains advantage over the non-friction compensation system on the performance of the compensator in both regions. The proposed compensator is evaluated and compared experimentally with an uncompensated system on a microcomputer controlled linear motor tracking system in the final section of the paper. The experimental results show the improvement on the maximum velocity error and the root mean square tracking error in the motion-start region ranges from 34% to 53% and from 53% to 75% respectively, and in the motion-reverse region from 48% to 65% and from 79% to 90% respectively.
Inclined piles are commonly used in civil engineering constructions where significant lateral resistance is required. Many researchers proved their positive performance on the seismic behavior of the supported structure and the piles themselves. However, most of these numerical studies were done within the framework of linear elastic or elastoplastic soil behavior, neglecting therefore the soil non-linearity at low and moderate soil strains which is questionable and could be misleading in dynamic analysis. The main objective of this study is to examine the influence of the pile inclination on the seismic performance of the soil-pile-structure system when both the linear elastic and the nonlinear soil models are employed. Based on the comparative responses, the adequacy of the soil's linear elastic behavior will be therefore evaluated. The analysis is conducted by generating a three-dimensional finite difference model, where a full interaction between the soil, structure, and inclined piles is considered. The numerical survey proved that the pile inclination can have a significant impact on the internal forces generated by seismic activity, specifically on the bending moment and shear forces. The main disadvantages of using inclined piles in this system are the bending forces at the head and pile-to-head connection. It is crucial to account for soil nonlinearity to accurately assess the seismic response of the soil-pile-structure system.

This paper presents numerical modelling, modal testing, finite element model updating, linear and nonlinear earthquake behavior of a reinforced concrete building model. A 1/2 geometrically scale, two-storey, reinforced concrete frame model with raft base were constructed, tested and analyzed. Modal testing on the model using ambient vibrations is performed to illustrate the dynamic characteristics experimentally. Finite element model of the structure is developed by ANSYS software and dynamic characteristics such as natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios are calculated numerically. The enhanced frequency domain decomposition method and the stochastic subspace identification method are used for identifying dynamic characteristics experimentally and such values are used to update the finite element models. Different parameters of the model are calibrated using manual tuning process to minimize the differences between the numerically calculated and experimentally measured dynamic characteristics. The maximum difference between the measured and numerically calculated frequencies is reduced from 28.47% to 4.75% with the model updating. To determine the effects of the finite element model updating on the earthquake behavior, linear and nonlinear earthquake analyses are performed using 1992 Erzincan earthquake record, before and after model updating. After model updating, the maximum differences in the displacements and stresses were obtained as 29% and 25% for the linear earthquake analysis and 28% and 47% for the nonlinear earthquake analysis compared with that obtained from initial earthquake results before model updating. These differences state that finite element model updating provides a significant influence on linear and especially nonlinear earthquake behavior of buildings.
Masonry constructions exhibit uncertain behaviors under dynamic effects such as seismic action. Complex issues arise in the idealization of structural systems of buildings having different material types and mechanical properties. In this study, the structural behavior of a vaulted masonry building constructed using full clay brick and lime-based mortar and sitting on consecutive arches was investigated by experimental and numerical approaches. The dimensions of the structure built in the laboratory were 391 × 196 cm, and its height was 234 cm. An incremental repetitive loading was applied to the prototype construction model. Along the gradually increasing loading pattern, the load-displacement curves of the masonry structure were obtained with the assistance of eight linear displacement transducers. In addition, crack formation areas, and relevant causes of its formation were determined. The experimental model was idealized using the finite element method, and numerical analyses were performed for the area considered as linear being under similar loading effect. From the linear analyses, the displacement values and stress distribution of the numerical model were obtained. In addition, the effects of tie members, frequently being used in the supports of curved load-bearing elements, on the structural behavior were examined. Consequently, the experimental and numerical analysis results were comparatively evaluated.

Methods for the estimation of the coefficient matrices in the equation of motion for a linear multi-degree-of-freedom structure arc studied. For this purpose, the equation of motion is transformed into an auto-regressive and moving average with auxiliary input (ARMAX) model. The ARMAX parameters are evaluated using several methods of parameter estimation; such as toe least squares, the instrumental variable, the maximum likelihood and the limited Information maximum likelihood methods. Then the parameters of the equation of motion are recovered therefrom. Numerical example is given for a 3-story building model subjected to an earthquake exitation.

Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is a computational model inspired by the structure and operations of the brain. It is massively parallel system consisting of a large number of highly interconnected and simple processing units. The purpose of this paper is to verify the applicability of ANN to predict experimental results through the use of measured experimental data. Although there have been accumulated data based on hysteretic characteristics of structural element with cyclic loading tests, it is difficult to directly apply them for the analysis of elastic and plastic response. Thus, simple models with mathematical formula such as Bi-Linear Model, Ramberg-Osgood Model, Degrading Tri Model, Takeda Model, Slip type Model, and etc, have been used. To verify the practicality and capability of this study, ANN is adapted to several models with mathematical formula using numerical data To show the efficiency of ANN in nonlinear analysis, it is important to determine the adequate input and output variables of hysteretic models and to minimize an error in ANN process. The application example is Beam-Column joint test using the ANN in modeling of the linear and nonlinear hysteretic behavior of structure.
Numerical modeling for the safety-related equipment used in a nuclear power plant (i.e., cabinet facilities) plays an essential role in seismic risk assessment. A full finite element model is often time-consuming for nonlinear time history analysis due to its computational modeling complexity. Thus, this study aims to generate a simplified model that can capture the nonlinear behavior of the electrical cabinet. Accordingly, the distributed plasticity approach was utilized to examine the stiffness-degradation effect caused by the local buckling of the structure. The inherent dynamic characteristics of the numerical model were validated against the experimental test. The outcomes indicate that the proposed model can adequately represent the significant behavior of the structure, and it is preferred in practice to perform the nonlinear analysis of the cabinet. Further investigations were carried out to evaluate the seismic behavior of the cabinet under the influence of the constitutive law of material models. Three available models in OpenSees (i.e., linear, bilinear, and Giuffre-Menegotto-Pinto (GMP) model) were considered to provide an enhanced understating of the seismic responses of the cabinet. It was found that the material nonlinearity, which is the function of its smoothness, is the most effective parameter for the structural analysis of the cabinet. Also, it showed that implementing nonlinear models reduces the seismic response of the cabinet considerably in comparison with the linear model.
