An effective dexterous motion control method of redundant robot manipulators based on neural optimization network is proposed to satisfy multi-criteria such as singularity avoidance, minimizing energy consumption, and avoiding physical limits of actuator, while performing a given task. The method employs a neural optimization network with parallel processing capability, where only a simple geometric analysis for resolved motion of each joint is required instead of computing of the Jacobian and its pseudo inverse matrix. For dexterous motion, a joint geometric manipulability measure(JGMM) is proposed. JGMM evaluates a contribution of each joint differential motion in enlarging the length of the shortest axis among principal axes of the manipulability ellipsoid volume approximately obtained by a geometric analysis. Redundant robot manipulators is then controlled by neural optimization networks in such a way that 1) linear combination of the resolved motion by each joint differential motion should be equal to the desired velocity, 2) physical limits of joints are not violated, and 3) weighted sum of the square of each differential joint motion is minimized where weightings are adjusted by JGMM. To show the validity of the proposed method, several numerical examples are illustrated.
This work proposes structure of spring backbone micro endoscope. For effective surgery in narrow and limited space, many manipulators are developing that different to existed structure. This device can move like elephant nose or snake unlike the existing robots. For this motion, a mechanism that uses spring backbone and wires has been developed. The new type endoscope that has Z axis motion for spring structure, therefore it has 3 degree of freedom, two rotations and one linear motion. And new kinematics for backbone structure is proposed using simple geographic analysis. The Jacobian and stiffness modeling are also derived. Exact actuator sizing is determined using stiffness model. Finally, the proposed kinematics are verified by simulation and experiments.
Micro/meso cutting is getting more important in the fields of precision machining technology. A micro-turning lathe is one of parts to consist the Micro Factory. It accepts stepwise motion actuators that are used for feeding system instead of the conventional mechanism. It is consisted of two Piezoelectric ceramics; one is for feeding the slider, and the other is for clamping the slider in the guide way of the body. The linearity and positional accuracy of the actuators are good enough for high precision motion. The spindle unit is operated with DC motor on the top of the slider. The motion is communicated with miniaturized linear encoder attached on each side of axis. A mono crystal diamond tool is used for cutting tool. This micro-lathe has been made a machining experiment to see the characteristics of micro-machining.
Robots have begun to perform various tasks on replacing the human in the daily life such as cleaning, entertainments etc. In order to accomplish the effective performance of intricate and precise tasks, robot hand must have special capabilities, such as decision making in given condition, autonomy in unknown situation and stable manipulation of object. In this study, we addresses the development of a 3-fingered humanoid robot hand system. We execute static analysis, vibration analysis and flexible dynamics to reserve stability at the design. Grasp motion of the finger uses a linear actuator and gears. Motion can be distinguished into four parts depending on the grasping thin paper, sphere, and column. In each motion, we compare the displacement of the case to be rigid with the case to be flexible. As a result, manufactured and feasibility of the robot hand is validated through preliminary experiments.
The aging society comes, the number of the old people expended. Technical aids allow elderly and handicapped people to live independently in their private homes as long as they wish. As a contribution to these required technological solutions, a demonstrator platform for a walking assistance robot. robot which has the capability to perform fetch and carry and various other supporting tasks. In this study, we addresses the development of a walking assistance robot system. We execute static analysis, vibration analysis and flexible dynamics to reserve stability at the design. Each motion of the robot uses a linear actuator and gears. Motion can be distinguished into 3 parts depending on the up & down, rotation, and cushion trans. In each motion, we compare the displacement of the case to be rigid with the case to be flexible. As a result, manufactured and feasibility of the walking assistance robot is validated through preliminary experiments.
An engine is one of the most dominant noise and vibration sources in vehicle systems. Therefore, in order to resolve noise and vibration problems due to engine, various types of engine mounts have been proposed. This work presents a new type of active engine mount system featuring a magneto-rheological (MR) fluid and a piezostack actuator. As a first step, six degrees-of freedom dynamic model of an in-line four-cylinder engine which has three points mounting system is derived by considering the dynamic behaviors of MR mount and piezostack mount. In the configuration of engine mount system, two MR mounts are installed for vibration control of roll mode motion whose energy is very high in low frequency range, while one piezostack mount is installed for vibration control of bounce and pitch mode motion whose energy is relatively high in high frequency range. As a second step, linear quadratic regulator (LQR) controller is synthesized to actively control the imposed vibration. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed active engine mount, vibration control performances are evaluated under various engine operating speeds (wide frequency range) and presented in time domain.

This study dealt with a self-propelled spinach harvester, which is capable of carrying out sequential harvesting work. This study aimed to find the cause of the harvester's occasional performance deterioration, which occurs in the process of simplifying the hydraulic circuit, using a multi-domain analysis model. The study was carried out in the following manner. First, a hydraulic system analysis model, which combines linear motion, rotary motion, hydrodynamic behavior, and an electrical signal, was developed through SimulationX software, specialized in multi-domain analysis. Second, a scenario for single behavior and coupled behavior was set out on an actuator basis. Third, the flow rate of the hydraulic system, which is not required for the movement of the actuator, was quantitatively analyzed. The results showed that a change in oil temperature was the cause of the harvester's occasional performance deterioration. And the higher the oil temperature, the more serious the performance deterioration, especially as the number of actuators operated simultaneously was small.

An attitude control problem for a tethered spacecraft is studied. The tethered spacecraft is viewed as a multi-body spacecraft consisting of a base body, a massless tether that connects the base body and an end mass, and tether actuator dynamics. Moments about the pitch and roll axes of the base spacecraft arise by control of the point of attachment of the tether to the base spacecraft. The control objective is to stabilize the attitude of the base spacecraft while keeping the perturbations of the tether small. Analysis shows that linear equations of motion for the tethered spacecraft are not completely controllable. We study two different control design approaches: (1) we decouple the attitude dynamics from the tether dynamics and we design a linear feedback to achieve stabilization of the attitude dynamics, and (2) we decouple the controllable modes from the uncontrollable mode using Kalman decomposition and we design a linear feedback to achieve stabilization of the controllable modes. Simulation results show that, although it is difficult to control the tether, the tether motion can be maintained within an acceptable range while stabilizing the attitude dynamics of the base spacecraft.
In the machine tool industry, direct drive linear motor technology is of increasing interest as a means to achieve high acceleration, and to increase reliability. The advantages of such a motor are that it has a good linearity and has no need of such mechanical energy conversion parts, which change rotary motion into linear motion, as screws, gears, chains etc In this paper, two structures of LOA are analyzed. One is the moving-coil type LOA and the other is moving-magnet type LOA. Two types of LOA are analyzed, with reference to the following parameters as variables: magnetic field, flux linkage, motor thrust and back emf. These variables are derived by the use of analytical method in terms of two-dimensional rectangular coordinate system. The maximum values of thrust according to such design parameters as air-gap length and magnet height for each model is also represented. The results are validated extensively by comparison with finite element method. In particular, we experiment moving-coil LOA which is already manufactured and confirm that the experimental results are shown in good agreement with analysis through the comparison of between analytical and experimental results
