  • With the development of precision manufacturing technologies, the importance of precision positioning devices is increasing. Conventional actuators, dual stage or mechanically contacting type, have limitation in coping with performance demands. As a possible solution, magnetic suspension technology was studied. Such a contact-free system has advantages in terms of high accuracy, low production cost and easy adaptability to high precision manufacturing processes. This paper deals with magnetically suspended multi-degrees of freedom actuator which can realize large linear motion. In this paper, the operating principle is explained with the magnetic force analysis, and the equations of motion are derived. Experimental results of the implemented system are also given.

  • In this paper, measuring system of 5 DOF motion errors are proposed using two capacitive type sensor, a straight edge and a laser interfoerometer. Yawing error and pitching error are measured using the laser interferometer, and rolling error is measured by the reversal method using a capacitive type sensor. Linear motion errors of horizontal and vertical direction are measured using the sequential two point method. In this case, influence of angular motion errors is compensated using the previously measured angular motion errors. In the horizontal direction, measuring accuracy is within 0.05 $\mu$m and 0.27 arcsec, and in the vertical direction, it is within 0.15 $\mu$m and 0.5 arcsec. From these results, it is confirmed that the proposed measureing system is very effective to the measurement of 5 DOF motion errors in the ultra precision feed tables.

  • Motion can be estimated continuously from each sensor through the analysis of the instantaneous states of an object. This paper is aimed to introduce a method to estimate the general 3D motion of a planar object from the instantaneous states of an object using multi-sensor data fusion. The instantaneous states of an object is estimated using the linear feedback estimation algorithm. The motion estimated from each sensor is fused to provide more accurate and reliable information about the motion of an unknown planar object. We present a fusion algorithm which combines averaging and deciding. With the assumption that the motion is smooth, the approach can handle the data sequences from multiple sensors with different sampling times. Simulation results show proposed algorithm is advantageous in terms of accuracy, speed, and versatility.

  • Linear pulse Motors(LPM) are widely used in fields where smooth linear motion is required, and their position accuracy is higher than other motors. Hybrid linear pulse motors(HLPM) are regarded as an excellent solution to positioning problems that require high accuracy, rapid acceleration and high-speed. • Linear motion robots are devices that perform functions such as transferring parts or positioning devices, and require high precision. In companies that develop linear robot application systems, human workers are in charge of quality control and fault diagnosis of linear robots, and the result and accuracy of a fault diagnosis varies depending on the skill level of the person in charge. Recently, there have been many attempts to utilize artificial intelligence to diagnose faults in industrial devices. In this paper, we present a system that automatically diagnoses linear rail and ball screw misalignment of a linear robot using transfer learning. In industrial systems, it is difficult to obtain a lot of learning data, and this causes a data imbalance problem. In this case, a transfer learning model configured by retraining an established model is widely used. The information obtained by using an acceleration sensor and torque sensor was used, and its usefulness was evaluated for each case. After converting the signal obtained from the sensor into a spectrogram image, the type of abnormality was diagnosed using an image recognition artificial intelligence classifier. It is expected that the proposed method can be used not only for linear robots but also for diagnosing other industrial robots.

  • Linear motors can drive a linear motion without intermediate gears, screws or crank shafts. Linear motors can successfully replace ball lead screw in machine tools because they have a high velocity, acceleration and good positioning accuracy. On the other hand, linear motors emit large amounts of heat and have low efficiency. In this paper, the thermal behavior of a synchronous linear motor with high velocity and force is analyzed. To improve the thermal characteristics of the linear motor, structure of linear motor and cooler is changed. Some effects of an integrated cooler, an U-cooler and a thermal symmetrical cooler are presented.

  • Effectiveness of corrective machining algorithm is verified experimentally in this paper by performing corrective machina work practically to single side and double sides hydrostatic tables. Lapping is applied as machining method. Machining information is calculated from measured motion errors by applying the algorithm, without information on rail profile. It is possible to acquire 0.13$\mu$m of linear motion error, 1.40arcsec of angular motion error in the case of single side table, and 0.07$\mu$m of linear motion error, 1.42arcsec of angular motion error in the case of double sides table. The experiment is performed by an unskilled person after he experienced a little of preliminary machining training. Experimental results show that corrective machining algorithm is very effective, and anyone can improve the accuracy of hydrostatic table by using the algorithm.

  • This paper develops a spectral element model for the composite beams with a surface-bonded piezoelectric layer from the governing equations of motion. The governing equations of motion are derived from Hamilton's principle by applying the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory for the bending vibration and the elementary rod theory for the longitudinal vibration of the composite beams. For the PZT layer, the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory and linear piezoelectricity theory are applied. The high accuracy of the present spectral element model is evaluated through the numerical examples by comparing with the finite element analysis results.

  • PURPOSE. This study investigated the accuracy of full-arch intraoral scans obtained by various scan strategies with the segmental scan and merge methods. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Seventy intraoral scans (seven scans per group) were performed using 10 scan strategies that differed in the segmental scan (1, 2, or 3 segments) and the scanning motion (straight, zigzag, or combined). The three-dimensional (3D) geometric accuracy of scan images was evaluated by comparison with a reference image in an image analysis software program, in terms of the arch shape discrepancies. Measurement parameters were the intermolar distance, interpremolar distance, anteroposterior distance, and global surface deviation. One-way analysis of variance and Tukey honestly significance difference post hoc tests were carried out to compare differences among the scan strategy groups (α = .05). RESULTS. The linear discrepancy values of intraoral scans were not different among scan strategies performed with the single scan and segmental scan methods. In general, differences in the scan motion did not show different accuracies, except for the intermolar distance measured under the scan conditions of a 3-segmental scan and zigzag motion. The global surface deviations were not different among all scan strategies. CONCLUSION. The segmental scan and merge methods using two scan parts appear to be reliable as an alternative to the single scan method for full-arch intraoral scans. When three segmental scans are involved, the accuracy of complete arch scan can be negatively affected.
