An estimated 250 million people worldwide suffer from lymphedema. In the past, the first-line option for treatment was nonsurgical management, either in the form of compression garments or wrapping, or comprehensive decongestive therapy, with debulking surgery reserved for the more advanced cases. However, with improvements in microsurgical techniques and imaging modalities, surgical intervention is increasingly being utilized. This review highlights recent advancements in the surgical treatment of lymphedema, specifically focusing on improvements in imaging, surgical techniques, and prevention of lymphedema.

Guided waves inspection techniques that are different with inspection technique by bulk waves are widely used in pipe line evaluation due to advantages of long distance inspection. However, most of pipe lines at industrial fields are buried and/or coated. In this case, due to the attenuation effect from soil and/or coating material, there are a lot of difficulty on inspection by conventional ultrasonic technique. In this paper, guided waves propagating patterns are calculated with respect to excitation mode by Normal Mode Expansion(NME). Guided waves patterns based on excited by single transducer and guided wave focusing technique have employed to analyze focusing pattern on a pipe. A longitudinal mode and high order flexural modes are used with various number of transducers to determine sensitivity. Guided waves energy excited by multi transducer with focusing algorithm was successfully focused at a desired point.

The present study attempts to investigate declination in Korean and its relevant aspects to the length of utterance, the clause boundary, and focus. More specifically, I examine the relation of declination with the length of utterance, the declination reset at the clause boundary, and the effect of focus on declination. Results showed that the length of utterance had no relation with the first and last pitch values of the utterance but that they were consistent regardless of the length of utterance. However, the declination slope changed to be relatively gentle from the fourth accentual phrase to the end of the whole intonational phrase. There was a reset of declination in such a way that the first pitch in the second phrase was always lower than that of the first phrase, but the first pitch in the third phrase was not always lower than that of the second phrase when the whole utterance was composed of three phrases. Finally, the pitch values of the focusing words decreased as their position went back in a sentence. One declination line was formed in the case of focused utterance, but in the case of an utterance that contained a clause boundary, a new declination line was formed at the start of each new clause. These findings can be applied to developing a Korean speech synthesizer that contains natural prosody; they can be also utilized for teaching Korean prosody.

The resent developed high speed train called HEMU-430X (Highspeed Electric Multiple Unit - 430km/h eXperiment) recorded a 421.4 km/h in Kyoungbu high speed line in Korea. A verity of measurement systems are used to check the performance between pantograph and catenary system. An innovative measurement system is adopted to check the current of catenary wire in the track side during HEMU-430X test running. This paper presents the measurement results of catenary current in kyoungbu high-speed line and describe its utilizing technology in the experimental results of catenary current. In order to analyze field testing results, the current ratio between contact and catenary current have been analyzed by means of Carson-Pollaczek equation. And the current wave forms between catenary and contact wire are presented based on the simulation results.

Recently, many internet firms have opted the strategic alliances with other on/off-line firms in order to gain and sustain their competitive advantages. Previous research on market reaction to such alliances, however, shows mixed results. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to analyze the announcement effects of the alliances among internet firms in the stock market. Focusing on on-line firms that have been outside the scope of previous research, this study applied the event study methodology and examined the cumulative abnormal returns(CAR) for 245 alliance announcements between October 1998 and May 2002. Further, this study conducted a survey to categorize various types of announcements and 40 usable returns has been analyzed. The notable results from this study include: 1) The strategic alliances announcements do not have statistically positive effects on stock prices of the announcing firms. 2) Contrary to the results of the previous research, the CARs associated with marketing alliances are higher than those with technology alliances. 3) The degree of fitness among firms' disposition, their alliance purpose, and alliance type chosen influences the performance of their alliances.

In this study, the photographic and anthropometric measurements of men in the 20's were made. and pattern making professionals visually evaluated their side photos to classify lateral views. These data were analyzed by being compared with existing research results to select objective standards, and body types were classified according to the selected standard. In addition, body features were defined according to lateral views based on measurement items and indices, and standard lines and determining factors for visual evaluation which determines lateral views were revealed. Back length - front length size smaller than 1.5cm was named as the lean-back type, 1.5∼3.9cm was named as the straight type. and that larger than 3.9cm was named as the bend-forward type. In the straight type, the bisection point of waist depth was located at a similar place to tragion level vertical line. In the lean-back type, the point was at the front of tragion level vertical line. In the bend-forward type, the point was at the back of tragion level vertical line.

The purpose of this study is to develope a creative expression technique in fashion illustration through analyzing applied techniques of the elements related to creative expressions in fashion illustrations. They were investigated in view of line, form, texture, color, space and the results were summarized as follows. In the creative expression using line in the fashion illustration. emotional effects of line created by specific character of mediums and duplicated lines have been applied to visualize movements of the objects. In shape, the transformed figure by destructing. covering or eliminating a part of the figure or the dress has been adapted. In texture. the invented texture reconstructed from actual texture has been applied, collage technique. computer graphic being used to give various images of texture. The creative expressions using color have been achieved by the shading. and spreading effects and the symbolic meaning of color for creating a spatiality in a picture plane and to give emotional effects and visual concentricity. In space, the color perspective together with detailed description. the combination of various points of view and liner perspective have been used to create depth and illusional space in pictorial plane.

This paper proposes pre-analysis on planning of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system applied to Korea electric power grid. HVDC transmission system for interface lines has been considered as alternative solution for high-voltage AC transmission line in South Korea since constructing new high-voltage AC transmission lines is challenging due to political, environmental and social acceptance problems. However, the installation of HVDC transmission system as interface line in AC grid must be examined carefully. Thus, this paper suggests three scenarios to examine the influences of the installation of HVDC transmission system in AC grid. The power flow and contingency analyses are carried out for the proposed scenarios. Power reserves in metro area are also evaluated. And then the transient stability analysis focusing on special protection scheme (SPS) operations is analyzed when critical lines, which are HVDC lines or high voltage AC lines, are tripped. The latest generic model of HVDC system is considered for evaluating the impacts of the SPS operations for introducing HVDC system in the AC grid. The analyses of proposed scenarios are evaluated by electromechanical simulation.

The purpose of this study was to examine acutely effective marketing strategies for bridge line imported handbag brands in order to succeed in launch and establishment in local market. Based on the successful bridge line imported handbag brands status in local market, this selected the brands, "LeSprotsac", "Longchamp", "Sequoia" that execute brand strategy including positioning strategies such as basic concept, prices, materials, promotion, distributions in order to succeed in local launching. For corroborate analysis, three staffs in each brands, consecutive in-person interviews and continuous telephone interviews, mail survey were used for this study. The results were as follows; First, differentiate brand positioning strategy that has considered accurate analysis of niche market and domestic market environment when brand launch effects on brand value enhancement. Second, marketing mix activity based on positioning strategy effects on establishing brand image and spreading brand awareness. Third, marketing activity based on positioning strategy should be executed based on consistent brand strategy.

Seoul Metro Line 9 (SML9) will link Gimpo Airport to the Gangnam district opening in May 2009. SML9 has a new model in Korea constructed by metropolitan government and private company and operated by specialized public transportation service provider. SML9 is confronted with tough environment of stagnated public transportation and strong competitor, Olympic city expressway. Consequently SML9 must lead the maximum efficiency by using its material and human resource. Hereupon, I propose renovation plans from 3 viewpoints of operation field of SML9: Rapid-Local combination, close connection with other transportation and direct connecting service into Incheon Air-port Railroad(AREX).
