  • An experimental study is performed to investigate characteristics of near of wakes of circular cylinders with serrated fins using a hot-wire anemometer for various freestream velocities. The main focus of this paper is to investigate a reason why a vortex formation length is increased suddenly. Velocity of the fluid which flow through fins decreases as fin's height and freestream velocity increases and fin pitch decreases, and a thickness of boundary layer increases. The finned tube has a lower velocity gradient when the higher boundary layer grows. This velocity gradient on finned tube makes a weak shear force in the wake and moves to downstream in a state of lower momentum transfer between the freestream and the wake. The phenomenon makes a vortex formation length increased suddenly. The fluctuations of the velocity distributions on the finned tube and (equation omitted) = 1.0 contour line in the vortex formation region decreases when the fin height increases and the pitch decreases.

A Study on the Improvement of the Image Quality for UAV Using Drift Compensation (편류보정을 통한 무인항공기 영상품질 향상에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: In this paper, the improvement of the image quality is investigated. The image quality is degraded by the drift phenomenon of EO/IR (Electro-Optical/Infrared) device on UAV. The drift phenomenon means that the image of EO/IR equipment on UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) moves to the unintended direction. This phenomenon should be improved for successful flight mission. Methods: To improve the drift phenomenon, the drift compensation method, the combination algorithm of FMC(Forward Motion Compensation) and AMC(Angular Motion Compensation) method, are introduced to calculate pitch and azimuth angle. Result values of pitch and azimuth angle are used for the improvement of image quality in EO/IR control logic. Results: The image quality is quantitatively improved more than 15 times through field test data of flight. Conclusion: Using the drift compensation technique, the image quality for EO/IR equipment is improved over 15 times than existing methods. This means the user of UAV with EO/IR device can perform a successful mission by keeping the line of sight for the target accurately.

  • Heat exchangers are commonly used in practice in a wide range of application, from heat and air-conditioning system in a household, to chemical processing and power production in large plant. An Experimental study was conducted to investigated the fluid flow and heat transfer around four circular cylinders of in-line in a cross flow of air. The local and average heat transfer characteristics for tube banks are investigated in the present study. Heat transfer in a heat exchanger usually involves convection in each fluid and conduction through the wall separating the two fluid. The in-line pitch ratio was in the range $1.5{\leq}L/d{\leq}4.0$, where L is the center distance and d the cylinder diameter, and in the Reynolds number $8,000{\leq}Re{\leq}50,000$. The local and mean Nusselt numbers were estimated. Subsequently, the heat transfer characteristics of four circular cylinders are found to exhibit a strong dependency upon the separation point of their upstream cylinders.

  • The characteristics of near wakes of circular cylinders with serrated fins are investigated experimentally using a hot-wire anemometer for various freestream velocities. Near wake structures of the fin tubes are observed using a phase average technique. With increasing fin height and decreasing fin pitch. oscillation of streamwise velocity increases. It file oscillation of lateral velocity decreases. The time averaged V-component velocity distribution of the finned tube is contrary to that of the circular cylinder due to the different strength of entrainment flow. This strength is affected by the distance of (equation omitted) = 1.0 contour lines. (equation omitted) = 1.0 contour line approaches to the wake center line when the fin density is increased. When the distance between (equation omitted) = 1.0 contour lines comes close the shear force should be increased and the flow toward the wake center line can be more strengthened because of the shear force. Factors related to the velocity recovery in the near wake of the finned tube are attributed to tile turbulent intensity, the boundary layer thickness. the position and strength of entrainment process.

  • The dynamic response and the mooring line tension of a 1/75 scale model of spar-type platform for 2.5 MW floating offshore wind turbine subject to one-dimensional regular harmonic wave are investigated numerically and verified by experiment. The upper part of wind turbine which is composed of three rotor blades, hub and nacelle is modeled as a lumped mass the scale model and three mooring lines are pre-tensioned by means of linear springs. The coupled fluid-rigid body interaction is numerically simulated by a coupled FEM-cable dynamics code, while the experiment is performed in a wave tank with the specially-designed vision and data acquisition system. The time responses of surge, heave and pitch motions of the scale platform and the mooring line tensions are obtained numerically and the frequency domain-converted RAOs are compared with the experiment.

Experimental Study on the Heat Transfer Characteristics of Spiral Fin-Tube Heat Exchangers (나선형 핀튜브 열교환기의 열전달 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This study experimentally examines the air-side performance of spiral finned tube heat exchangers. The effects of fin spacing, fin height, and tube alignment were investigated. Reduction of fin spacing decreased the Colburn j factor. However, the effect of fin height on the Colburn j factor was negligible. An increase of tube row decreased the Nusselt number for both staggered and in-line tube alignments. However, the decrease of the Nusselt number for the in-line tube alignment was much more significant than that of the staggered tube alignment. The average Nusselt number of the staggered tube alignment was larger than that of the in-line tube alignment by $10\%$ when the Reynolds number ranged from 300 to 1700. An empirical correlation of the Nusselt number was developed by using geometric parameters of heat exchanger and correction factors. The correction factor considered the effects of tube alignment and number of tube rows on the heat transfer. The proposed correlation yielded a mean deviation of $4\%$ from the present data.

  • Purpose: Open reduction and internal fixation of calcaneal fracture using plate has been used. While numerous plates have been manufactured, most of the conventional plates are designed for westerners, realistically the size is larger for Korean. The domestic products, on the other hand, often have the undesirable screw holes and path. Therefore, we measured the radiologic parameter of Korean calcaneus for providing the plate and screw hole placements. Materials and Methods: We measured the outer lines and angles with over the 20 years old 291 females and 322 males. A: Length of inferior plane of calcaneus, B: Length of anterior plane of calcaneus, C: Length from line A to sinus tarsi, D: Length from line A to posterior point of posterior facet, E: Length from line A to calcaneal tuberosity, F: Length of posterior facet, G: Length from anterior point of line A to C, H: Length from line C to line D, a: Angle between A and B, b: Gissane angle, c: Bohler angle, d: Calcaneal pitch angle using Marosis m-view$^{(R)}$. Results: Mean A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H were 63.6, 26.4, 23.2, 43.7, 40.5, 26.9, 12.8, 18.1 mm. Mean a, b, c, d angle were 105.8, 122.4, 32.4, $20.5^{\circ}$. Male's calcaneus is significantly bigger than female's (p<0.001). Conclusion: AP calcaneus length 63.6 mm, maximal height 43.7 mm is considered to be helpful in making the Korean calcaneal plate.

  • In this paper, a simple but effective Dataline Redundancy Circuit (DRC) is proposed for a dual-port 1T-SRAM embedded in Display ICs. The DRC designed in the dual-port $320{\times}120{\times}18$-bit 1T-SRAM is verified in a 0.18-um CMOS 1T-SRAM process. In the DRC, because its control logic circuit can be implemented by a simple Shift Logic Circuit (SLC) with only an inverter and a NAND that is much simpler than the conventional, it can be placed in a pitch as narrow as a bit line pair. Moreover, an improved version of the SLC is also proposed to reduce its worst-case delay from 12.3ns to 5.9ns by 52%. By doing so, the timing overhead of the DRC can be hidden under the row cycle time because switching of the datalines can be done between the times of the word line setup and the sense amplifier setup. The area overhead of the DRC is estimated about 7.6% in this paper.

A Transcoding Algorithm between EVRC and G.729A (EVRC와 G.729A 간의 상호부호화)

  • This paper presents an effective algorithm for transcoding between the Enhanced Variable Rate Codec(EVRC) and G.729A. The simplest way to communicate between heterogeneous speech networks is the cascade connection of two different codecs, called tandem coding. However, tandem coding not only produces high computational loads, but also makes long delay, These problems can be solved by using the transcoding algorithm. The proposed algorithm consists of LSP (Line Spectral Pair) conversion, pitch delay conversion and algorithm for reduction of delay. Experimental results show the proposed algorithm produces lower computational complexity, shorter algorithm delay, and similar speech quality when compared with the tandem algorithm.
