Tamoxifen (TAM) is an anticancer drug used to treat estrogen receptor (ER)-positive breast cancer. However, its ER-independent cytotoxic and antifungal activities have prompted debates on its mechanism of action. To achieve a better understanding of the ER-independent antifungal action mechanisms of TAM, we systematically identified TAM-sensitive genes through microarray screening of the heterozygous gene deletion library in fission yeast (Schizosaccharomyces pombe). Secondary confirmation was followed by a spotting assay, finally yielding 13 TAM-sensitive genes under the drug-induced haploinsufficient condition. For these 13 TAM-sensitive genes, we conducted a comparative analysis of their Gene Ontology (GO) 'biological process' terms identified from other genome-wide screenings of the budding yeast deletion library and the MCF7 breast cancer cell line. Several TAM-sensitive genes overlapped between the yeast strains and MCF7 in GO terms including 'cell cycle' (cdc2, rik1, pas1, and leo1), 'signaling' (sck2, oga1, and cki3), and 'vesicle-mediated transport' (SPCC126.08c, vps54, sec72, and tvp15), suggesting their roles in the ER-independent cytotoxic effects of TAM. We recently reported that the cki3 gene with the 'signaling' GO term was related to the ER-independent antifungal action mechanisms of TAM in yeast. In this study, we report that haploinsufficiency of the essential vps54 gene, which encodes the GARP complex subunit, significantly aggravated TAM sensitivity and led to an enlarged vesicle structure in comparison with the SP286 control strain. These results strongly suggest that the vesicle-mediated transport process might be another action mechanism of the ER-independent antifungal or cytotoxic effects of TAM.

This thesis a result of theoretical and experimental studies on the shape of seepage line and seepage quantities in various inclined core walls. The value of this determination was examined and compared with the values of calculation acquaired to be based on Fukutas, Jin's and author's approximate equation of the theory. Thus the writer of this paper confirms that the seepage quantity can be decreased by changing the types of the inclined core wall and it's change of the slope.

Phytoestrogens are naturally occurring compounds derived from plants. Structurally, some phytoestrogens resemble endogenous estrogen of humans and animals. Phytoestrogens exhibit estrogen agonist/antagonist properties and have many biological effects such as prevention of hormone-dependent breast cancer, anti-oxidative activity, inhibition of tyrosine kinase activities and inhibition of angiogenesis. In this study we investigated whether biochanin A, a phytoestrogen, and its metabolites such genistein, p-ethylphenol and phenolic aic affect IL-4 production in EL-4 thymoma cell-line and primary lymph node cells. In the decision of a collision avoidance action for navigators and intellignet ships, it is necessary to evaluate the degree of surrounding risks effectively. We propose the new risk evaluation technique in two dimensions using Even Risk Contour on the basis of the concept of contour line. In this paper, we introduce the algorithms ofERC and Approach Velocity(AV) and show their application for avoiding traffic collision at sea.

A minicomputer system with the purpose of automations the operations of a Repair Service Bureau is described. SLMOS automates three major functional areas-administration, testing, and report senerations In the administration of repair sevice SLMOS performs a database maintenance functions alons with trouble collection and tracking. Trough ALT, automated testing of customer lines is performed, and the results of the test are utilized to dertermine the action taken to effect a repair. Certain problem areas may be detected and corrected by using the reports senerated by Trouble Report statics and Analysis System.

A thyristor controlled shunt compensator, which is installed in the middle of the transmission line is adopted for controlling real power flow in a simple power transmission system. By means on the Fourier series representation of the thyristor switching action and the system parameters, the thyristor current equations are derived, which transmit the required real power of the simple power transmission system and inform the thyristor firing angle, the thyristor conduction angle, the power flows and the harmonic characteristics EMTP simulations at the various operating points show the dynamic characteristics of the thyristor controlled shunt compensator and correspond to the results calculated with the Fourier series representation.

A numerical simulation of the temperature rise for sliding surface in dry contact is based on Jaeger's formula combined with a calculated heat input. A gear tooth temperature analysis was performed. The pressure distribution has the Hertzian pressure distribution on the heat source. The heat partition factor is calculated along line of action. A Temperature distribution of tooth surface is calculated about before and after profile modification. A Temperature of addendum and deddendum in modified gear have reduced.

A 2D comic model, a comic-style line drawing model having only eyebrows, eyes, nose and mouth, is much easier to generate facial expressions with small number of points than that of 3D model. In this paper we propose a 3D emotional editor using a 2D comic model, where emotional expressions are represented by using action units(AU) of FACS. Experiments show a possibility that the proposed method could be used efficiently for intelligent sign-language communications between avatars of different languages in the Internet cyberspace.

Mansam, the root of Codonopsis pilosula (Campanulaceae) has a action on blood metabolism. It has been known to possess anti leukemic effect by increasing of red blood cell, at same time, by decreasing white blood cell, with this connection, present study is aimed to clarify such potential anti leukenic effect by testing ethanol extract and chloroform extract against murine tumor model, lymphocytic leukemia P388. The data indicated that these extracts appeared to be inactive against this tumor line.

In this study, the sliding wear in spur gears, using Archard's wear model, is analyzed. Formulas of tooth sliding wear depth along the line of action are derived. The tooth profile is modified Id make a smooth transmission of the normal loads and the cylinder profile for reducing the pressure spike is suggested. The sliding wear rate is calculated with these profiling results. We expect these modification methods to contribute to the reduction of sliding wear not only in the root, but the tip of tooth and tooth edge.
