Nowadays, Short headway is a requirement of Signaling System applied to subway and Light Rail Transit (LRT) being constructed in Korea. To satisfy this Systematic Requirement, the accuracy of train position information on the line is one of the main element to improve ATC system safety and performance. On-board ATC system performs feasibility of Train Position as comparing data from balise installed along the track with data from tachometer installed at both axles of train.
This paper presents the status quo of the development of a piecewise bendable switch system for the urban transit MagLev. MagLev system as well as railroad requires switch systems to reach its destination. Requirements of the switch system for commercial lines are high speed operation satisfying about 2-3 minute headway and system reliability, etc. Parallel moving type switch system was installed on the test track of urban transit MagLev in KIMM. In this system, switch operation from one position to another can be done in about 90 seconds. Therefore, we concluded that this system can not satisfy the headway for the commercial lines. We decided to develop a high speed piecewise bendable switch system in which switching can be done in 20 seconds. Designed switch system is very complicated in view of operating mechanism. It consists of 11 segmented girder beams driven by hydraulic cylinders. To gain the idea of a piecewise bendable switch system, we manufactured and tested a 1/5 scale switch model. We are going to construct a full scale piecewise bendable switch system next year.
The purpose of this paper is to identify unreliable routes in the view of users. After headway error ratio per route and travel time error ratio per route were calculated by using BMS data, reliability which incorporated two indicators each route was calculated through data envelopment analysis. Reliability among routes and among traffic zones was compared through the results, the needs to improve severely unreliable routes and to show passengers adjusted bus schedule information considering current reliability were suggested. As a future study, reliability evaluation framework of each route needs to be developed considering operation environment by analyzing bus card data (passengers and operation speed etc.) and pooly unreliable route should be managed strictly and reformed.
Kyung-Bu High Speed Railway is operated in train control system(tcs) of fixed block operated in a way of dividing track circuits into several blocks in accordance with operation circumstances such as rolling stocks, grade, curves and facilities. The TCS of fixed block system refers to a continuous train control system, which transfers operational information such as entry and exit speed, distance-to-go, and deceleration etc. into on-board train control equipment on the basis of block occupancy of a preceding train. It guarantees a safe operation of trains by giving an emergency braking order, in case that a train exceeds an entry and exit speed of a corresponding block. In this paper, we analyze the speed control code deducing in accordance with maximum operation speed and characteristics of rolling stocks by analyzing principles of generation of speed control code allocated in blocks for safe operation, then train operational efficiency was analyzed by means of analysis of operation headway in accordance with the deduced speed control code. This study will be used to design in case of getting an increase in speed for existing high speed line or new high speed line TCS.
When operating Express and Standard trains, which run with two different scheduled time, in a single line with limited number of side tracks for overtaking standard trains, it is required to have various modeling methodologies and simulations in order to calculate an optimum headway to maximize the capacity of the line with the best scheduled time. Especially it is inevitable that following trains have to slow down or stop in the middle of their operations due to the preceding trains, in case it is inappropriate controlled about either in which station an overtaking should be taken or how long it should be. This study is to analyze TPS data which have been produced with a simulation program which the team has invented to optimize Express and Standard mixed traffic plan and to introduce an algorism which shows detected conflict data, calculates appropriate dwell time after getting overtaken and helps to decide stations for overtaking.
While road traffic of sharp rise of an international oil price and capital Seoul reaches to critical point, and a use passenger drives recklessly on the subway which is a cradle of public transportation, the depths analyzes an electric power feed system regarding a ground wealth electric car line of the subway Line 2 East Section which is a long distance (Seongsu $\sim$ Gangbyeon), and future, electric power supply Feeder Distribution Center prepares to Operational Headway shortening along an ATO signal method change by feeder increase supplement, and ensure safety to an electric power supply system, and will solve inconvenience of safe operation and use passenger.
The national subway went under construction in 1971, and after three years of endeavor, Seoul subway line number one opened for traffic in 1974. Line number two went under construction in 1978 and it opened for traffic in 1984. With the use of safety operation for more than 20 years, the life cycle nearly came to an end. Therefore the improvements for the safety operation are unavoidable. The total system should not be affected when the new and conventional systems are overlapped, the system operation is in the initial stage, and it confronts the situation of abnormal operation. However, there is a total lack of experience in construction and improvement for the trains that are in the use of large transport and density headway. In this paper, we propose an improvement method of the subway signalling system using ATO (Automatic Train Operation control scheme) to which the latest Digital ATC is applied, and examine the first application model of ATO system.
New Opening of Suseo-Pyeongteak High Speed Railway (HSR) will be a new leap in the Korean railway history. However if this section of HSR line around Seoul Metropolitan Area opens, the confluence of new HSR and existing HSR line in Pyeongteak-Osong section will cause a bottle neck problem. In other words, the opening of Suseo-Pyeongteak HSR line will make the capacity of track reach the limit and the section of railroad between Pyeongteak and Osong will be saturated. This will also make such troubles as restricting the number of train which stops at Cheonan-Asan station. In this study, based on the train assignment theory of TVM430 signal system, the methods of calculating headway and number of train are reviewed and the plan for application of optimal operation pattern during peak hour between Pyeongteak-Osong section is also suggested. To remove the bottle neck problem in this HSR section, 3 alternatives are suggested and the expected effects and problems of each alternative are also analyzed. The results show that the troubles caused by excess of track capacity can be removed without any additional cost if the minimum headway in operating system for HSR is adopted in this section. In the future, if these alternatives are considered to the long-term plan for operating train and signal systems, this will improve the efficiency of train operation, which can remove the bottle neck in the HSR line.
The goal of the transportation policy of Seoul is to increase the ridership of the subway system by constructing the public transportation network, the subway system. To accomplish this goal, the city of Seoul has been constructing the Metropolitan Subway System. Currently, seven subway lines which connect major areas in Seoul are operating. However, the ridership of subway system was not increased as much as we expected, even though more subway lines have been implemented. It seems that although the length of the subway line was extended, the current way of the subway operation that trains stop at every station cannot satisfy the passenger's need. Thus, we should try to increase the demand by providing quicker services and diversifying the subway operations; changing the point of view is required. This paper introduces the distinctive features of the express subway system and the model for analysing the effects of that system. This paper also presents the results for the feasibility study of the express subway system on the 5th Subway Line and Kyong-Eue Railway Line. Based on the results of the case studies, We can conclude as : First, the express system reduces a total travel time by about $13\%$; in particular, the Kyong-Eue Line is more effective than the subway Line ${\sharp}5$. Second, the shorter headway of express trains increases the time saving effects on subway system although it requests more waiting time to low-speed train passengers. When the service frequency is increased from 5 to 7.5 times/hour, total saved time ratio is about $10\%$ in the Subway Line ${\sharp}5$ and about $18\%$ in the Kyong-Eue Line.

Recently, The flexible moving block system in train operation has been introduced to the worldwide rail transportation markets. This paper is a comparative study of the conventional fixed block systems effects and the flexible moving block system on train operating time saving. Based on the literature review, the new algorithm is developed. It is to calculate the optimum headway time of the train. The proposed algorithm can overcome some of the existing algorithm problems, such as the limits of the data and unaware of the rail characteristic. The total travel time saving effect has been analyzed by applying the skip stop scheduling system to the each block system. The results of this study indicated that the total travel time is approximately 40% decreased and the schedule velocity is approximately 24% improved when the moving block system is applied. The results of this study could be used as a theoretical basis for the selection of rail signal system in Seoul's subway number 2 line.
