Spool displacement of a direction control valve is the standard signal to measure the bandwidth frequency of the direction control valve. When the spool displacement signal is not available, it is suggested in this study to use the metering hydraulic line as an alternative way to measure - 90 degree phase bandwidth frequency of the hydraulic direction control valve. Dynamics of the hydraulic line is composed of inertia, capacitance, and friction effects. The effect of oil inertia is dominant in common hydraulic line dynamics and the line dynamics is close to a derivative action in a range of high frequency; such as a range of bandwidth frequency of common directional control valves. Phase difference between spool displacement and line load pressure is nearly constant as a valve close to 90 degree. If phase difference is compensated from the phase between valve input and pressure, compensated phase may be almost same as the phase of spool displacement that is a standard signal to measure phase bandwidth frequency of the directional control valve. A series of experiments were conducted to examine the possibility of using line pressure in to measure phase bandwidth frequency of a directional control valve. Phase bandwidth frequency could be measured with relatively high precision based on metering hydraulic line technique and it reveals consistent results even when valve input, oil temperature, and supply pressure change.
In this paper, a pressure control type ratio control valve(RCV) is designed for a metal belt CVT. Steady state and transient characteristics of the pressure control CVT are investigated by simulations and experiments. In addition, P-line is proposed to predict the shift performance. It is found that the bigger the pressure margin, the faster the shift response. It is expected that the P-line can be used in design of the RCV to meet the desired shift performance.
In this paper, low level control algorithms of a metal belt CVT are suggested. A feedforward PID control algorithm is adopted for line pressure based on a steady state relationship between the input duty and the line pressure. Experimental results show that feedforward PID control of the line pressure guarantees a fast response while reducing the pressure undershoot which may result in belt slip. For ratio control, a fuzzy logic is suggested by considering the CVT shift dynamics and on-off characteristics of the ratio control valve. It is found from experimental results that a desired speed ratio can be achieved at steady state in spite of the fluctuating primary pressure. It is expected that the low level control algorithms for the line pressure and speed ratio suggested in this study can be implemented in a prototype CVT.
Almost every hydraulic system is equipped with a pressure relief valve, to maintain working pressure of the system at a pre-determined level. Thus, dynamic characteristics of such a relief valve, in conjunction with other hydraulic components, are important in designing the hydraulic control system. The single stage pressure relief valve is dynamically undesirable, due to relatively low viscous damping, that causes high frequency oscillations. This problem is overcome by introducing orifices in the inner pilot line, and drain line. In this study, for the single stage spool type pressure relief valve, the system equations were derived through an adequate linearisation and several simplifications were made, to use the transfer function formulation technique. All coefficients were evaluated and used, to make some results by using Matlab software. Results of analysis are compared with experimental results. In this study, parameters affecting stability of valve design are determined and suggested relative to the design.
The lockup clutch is embeded on torque converter of automatic transmission to prevent the efficiency deterioration of torque converter in high speed. For improving fuel consumption rate, it is desirable to engage the lockup clutch earlier. But, it results in degrading shift quality, due to the transient torque. The transient clutch pressure which affects the shifting quality, should be controlled properly. In this study, to solve the problem, it is analysed the hydraulic circuit of lockup system including line pressure regulating circuit, established the nonlinear model, and designed the PID controller. The line pressure is supplied to the lockup clutch through the lockup control valve by switching the lockup solenoid valve on. In order to control the transient pressure actively, it is needed to control the lockup solenoid valve by closed loop control. The lockup solenoid valve is 2-way on-off valve, and is adequate for PWM control. To reduce the pressure chattering, the carrier frequency is increased. Target pressure profile is computed from optimized velocity difference profile throuth dynamic equation of vehicle system.
In brake systems, a proportioning valve(P. V), which reduces the brake line pressure on each wheel cylinder for the anti-locking of rear wheels, is closely related to the safety of vehicles. However, it is impossible for current P. V. s to completely control brake line pressure because, mechanically, it is an open loop control system. In this paper we describe an electronic brake force distribution system using a direct adaptive fuzzy controller in order to completely control brake line pressure using a closed loop control system. The objective of the electronic brake force distribution system is to change the cut-in-pressure and the valve slop of the P. V in order to obtain better performance of the brake system than with mechanical systems.
An electronic-hydraulic controlled line pressure system was suggested based on the mechanical controlled CVT base model. As a high level control strategy, a 3-D optimal line pressure map was obtained considering the driver's desire, driving conditions. Also, PID type low level controller was designed. Using the high level control strategy and the dynamic models of the base model CVT with electronic controlled line pressure system, performance simulations were carried out. It is seen from the simulation results that fuel economy of the electronic controlled strategy keeps the line pressure low, which results in the improved efficiency of the hydraulic system.
Through experimental works, the damping force vibration problem was investigated, which results from valve and surge pressure in the oil return line of the hydraulic circuit of an active suspension system in a passenger cu. Experiments were carried out under passive system, where an orifice valve was closed and non-active system, where an orifice valve was opened, using a pressure control valve controlled by solenoid. The effects of parameters of the valve overlap and accumulator on smoothing surge pressure was elucidated. It was proved that the apparent variation of damping force due to the overlap amount of pressure control valve is the most important factor to control the damping force variation. The procedure of the experimental works shows the development process of a proportional pressure control valve in the hydraulics system of an active suspension system of passenger car.
The spool displacement of directional control valve can be considered as the standard signal to measure the bandwidth frequency of a directional control valve. When the spool displacement is not available, the metering-orifice system is implemented in this research as an alternative way of measuring the 90 degrees phase bandwidth frequency of the hydraulic directional control valve. The inertia effect on the transmission line oil induces the phase lead of the valve load pressure when compared with the phase of spool displacement. The capacitance effect of the oil induces the phase lag of the valve load pressure. The phase of the load pressure can be adjusted to be the same as that of the spool displacement by controlling the opening area of the metering orifice. A series of experiments were conducted to verify the effectiveness of the metering orifice. The 90 degrees phase bandwidth frequency measured from the valve load pressure was significantly deviated in some cases from the frequency of the spool displacement. The metering orifice was hard to be applied to measure the -90 degrees phase bandwidth frequency of the high precision.
