  • In this paper, the application of limestone grain, which produced by being gathered electrically in the process of manufacturing of cement, to high fluidity concrete are investigated. High fluidity mortar is used for this experiment. According to the experimental results, especially, high viscosity and the loss of air content are accomplished by applying limestone grain as the partial substitution of fine aggregates. In case of hardened mortar, high strength development at early age can be achieved by using limestone grain. But excessive dosage of limestone grain can cause high drying shrinkage.

  • Characteristics of wet flue gas desulfurization and in-furnace desulfurization of domestic and overseas limestone with different crystallinity and crystalline size are studied in this article. Properties of desulfurization were evaluated in relation to physicochemical/ mineralogical characteristics, degree of pore formation for different calcination temperatures and TNC(total neutralizing capability). TNC of domestic high crystalline limestone was lower than that of overseas one. On the other hand, the porosity after calcination was shown to be relatively high for domestic limestone, which had high initial rates of desulfurization reactions in-furnace. Based on low pore formation and porosity with high TNC of crystalline high-Ca limestones compared to macrocrystalline ones, the former are preferred for wet desulfurization processes.

  • PURPOSES : This study is to investigate the fundamental properties of limestone added cement concrete for application of pavement. METHODS : As the production of Portland cement causes environmental problems, engineers have sought more environment-friendly concrete construction materials. Limestone powder can be used for concrete as a partial replacement of Portland cement. One of the great applications of limestone powder added cement concrete might be a cement concrete pavement since the concrete pavement consumes massive quantity of Portland cement. Experimental variables were different replacement level of limestone powder by 0% to 25% with 5% increment. Before hardening of fresh concrete, setting time and plastic shrinkage characteristics were investigated in addition to other basic properties. Properties of hardened concrete included compressive, tensile and flexural strength as well as drying shrinkage. RESULTS : The addition of limestone powder did not significantly affect the properties of fresh concrete. Strength deceased as the replacement ratio increased and when the replacement ratio was greater than 10% decrease rate increased. CONCLUSIONS : It was found that the partial replacement of the limestone powder to cement in pavement materials can be positively considered as its mechanical properties show comparable performance to those normal concrete.

  • This study investigated about how much the limestone's volume was changed as time passed while maintaining a certain level of moisture condition in the limestone material for concrete under high temperature. The result is summarized as follows: It was appeared that the limestone material under high temperature emitted some CO2 resulting from the decarboxylation, so that as the heating temperature was increased, the limestone's length change rate was decreased. In the leave time change after heating the stone, the both conditions of 50% and 100% made the limestone create Ca(OH)2 using some H2O. So it was appeared that as time passed, the limestone's length change rate first increased because of its volume expansion, but the rate was reduced after the limestone material was crumbled.

  • For the purpose of reducing the amount of limestone, which is used as a desulfurization agent to absorbing $SO_X$ gas in thermal power plants, and to recycle limestone sludge generated from a steel mill, limestone sludge was utilized as a desulfurization agent. In this study, cement, made of flue gas desulfurization (FGD) gypsum obtained in a desulfurization process using limestone sludge, was manufactured then, experiments were conducted to identify the physical properties of the paste and mortar using the cement. The results of the crystal phase and microstructure analyses showed that the hydration product of the manufactured cement was similar to that of ordinary Portland cement. No significant decline of workability or compressive strength was observed for any of the specimens. From the results of the experiment, it was determined that FGD gypsum manufactured from limestone sludge did not influence the physical properties of the cement also, quality change did not occur with the use of limestone sludge in the flue gas desulfurization process.

  • In the global trend of countries around the world announcing the declaration of carbon neutrality, the development of low-carbon cement in the cement industry can be seen as a very important issue that can determine the future development of the cement industry in the future. Therefore, this study evaluated the strength characteristics of limestone cement paste with limestone powder of CaCO3 and refinery desulfurization waste catalyst of high Al2O3 content, and using a Minitab mixture design to optimize a limestone cement content. As a resuls it was confirmed that limestone cement paste with 5-10% of limestone powder and 1.25-2.5% of the waste catalyst exhibits similar compressive strength to that of OPC.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of using method and replacement ratio of limestone powder and water-cement ratio on the compressive strength and the resistance to sulfate attack of mortar incorporating limestone powder as fundamental study to use limestone powder as an addition for concrete. As a results, The method using limestone powder as a part of cement showed decrease of the compressive strength of mortar. The strength of mortar incorporating limestone powder almost decided upon unit cement content. It was recognized that the method replacing limestone powder as a part of cement was effective to decrease the heat of hydration in concrete. The method using limestone powder as a part of fine aggregate showed the considerable increase of the strength and resistance to sulfate attack of concrete. Furthermore, it was recognized that the method using limestone powder as a part of fine aggregate were effective materials as an addition for concrete in view of the improvement of strength and resistance to sulfate attack.

  • In the flue gas desulfurization process of the coal-fired power plant, the grinding efficiencies of the limestone as the sorbent for desulfurization were compared after BWI and HGI measurements. As a result, the grinding index of the domestic desulfurization limestone were linear inversely proportional relationship with decreasing BWI was observed with increasing HGI. There was a difference in grinding efficiency depending on the chemical composition and crystal structure. Therefore, it is considered that when grinding ability of limestone is measured, the grinding property of the sample can be confirmed even by using HGI which can be measured more easily than BWI which is difficult to measure and takes a long time. The desulfurization efficiency can be improved by selective utilization of limestone depending on the crushing characteristics.
