Viroid-like RNA molecules were detected from the low molecular weight RNAs isolated from the Korean peonies which showed typical viroid symptoms of epinasty and dwarfing. Low molecular weight RNAs including viroid RNA molecules were purified by the Qiagen anion exchange minicolumns. Viroid-like RNA molecules showed a single viroid specific band in the native polyacrylamide gel. They were separated into two bands in the denaturing gel conditions. The band of circular form of viroid-like RNAs was crossed over the horizontal band of the linear form of viroid-like RNA molecules in 0~8 M urea gradient gel under the denaturing conditions of 37$^{\circ}C$. The two circular forms of viroid-like RNA molecules were detected in the reverse polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The viroid-like RNA molecules purified from the peonies were supposed to be unidentified viroid RNA molecules.

Autophagy refers to the bulk degradation of cellular proteins and organelles through an autophagosome and plays a pivotal role in the development, cellular differentiation, aging, and elimination of aberrant structures. A failure of autophagy has been implicated in a growing list of mammalian disease states, including cancer and cardiomyopathy. Two ubiquitin-like systems are highly involved in autophagy, especially in the formation of autophagosomes. Here, we purified and characterized Atg7 (an E1-like enzyme), and Atg3 and Atg10 (E2-like enzymes) in order to gain an insight into the role played by ubiquitin-like systems in the formation of autophagosomes. Interestingly, we observed that Atg7 forms a homodimer to construct an active conformation, unlike other E1-like enzymes. Although Atg3 was detected as a monomer under physiological conditions, Atg10 existed in an oligomeric form, indicating that the mechanism by which Atg10 functions may differ from that of Atg3.

WouldYouLike[우주라이크]는 2009년 천문학 전공 대학생들을 중심으로 탄생한 천문우주과학 대중화를 위해 활동하는 비영리 단체이다. 천문우주과학에 대한 정보를 얻기 힘든 사람들을 위해 쉽게 접할 수 있는 콘텐츠를 제작하여 이를 무료로 배포하고 있다. 2012년 무료 배포용 천문학 잡지 우주라이크 창간호를 시작으로 2017년 현재 11호까지 발간되었으며, 이 잡지는 전국 각지의 대학교 캠퍼스와 천문대 및 과학관의 협조를 통해 배포 중이다. 이러한 오프라인 활동과 더불어 SNS(인스타그램, 페이스북)와 홈페이지를 비롯해 현대인들에게 접근성이 높은 온라인 매체를 적극적으로 활용한 천문학 콘텐츠와 팟캐스트 등을 통해 대중에게 다가가고 있다. 특히 우주라이크 페이스북 페이지의 팔로워 수는 약 35,000명이며, 이는 한국천문연구원 페이스북 페이지의 약 6,000명보다 많은 수치이다. 이는 우주라이크 본연의 목적인 천문학 대중화에 우주라이크가 크게 기여하고 있음을 보여준다. 현재 우주라이크는 상기에 기술한 활동들과 함께 NASA에서 운영하는 APOD (Astronomy Picture of the Day)의 한글판 서비스를 공식적으로 번역하여 제공하고 있다. 이 포스터는 국내에서 천문우주과학 대중화의 필요성을 역설하며, 이와 연계해서 우주라이크의 활동 내역과 현재 추진 중인 계획을 소개한다. 그리고 이에 대한 국내 천문학계의 다양한 목소리를 듣고 추후 활동에 반영하고자 한다.

본 연구는 기내 배양한 나도 풍란에 식물생장억제제인 Uniconazole, Ancymidol, Paclobutrazol의 종류별, 농도별 처리가 식물체내 내생 GA 유사물질의 활성 및 ABA 유사물질의 함량의 변화에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위하여 실시되었다. 지상부인 잎에서는 Uniconazole 0.05 mg/L, Ancymidol 0.1 mg/L, Paclobutrazol 0.3 mg/L 처리 시 ABA 유사물질의 함량은 대조구보다 낮았으며, GA유사물질의 활성은 대조구 보다 높거나 비슷한 수준이었다. 하지만 처리농도가 높아짐에 따라 ABA 유사물질의 농도는 높아졌으나, GA 유사물질의 활성은 비교적 억제되었다. 지하부인 뿌리에서는 Uniconazole 0.05, 0.2mg/L, Ancymidol 0.2 mg/L, Paclobutrazol 0.1 mg/L 처리에서 ABA 유사물질의 함량이 대조구보다 낮았고, 그 이상의 농도에서는 높았다. GA 유사물질의 활성은 비교적 저 농도에서는 높았으나, 고농도 처리에서는 저 농도와 비교하여 활성이 억제되었다.

본 논문은 Haar-like 특징을 이용한 고성능 보행자 및 차량 인식 회로를 제안한다. 제안하는 회로는 영상의 매 프레임 마다 슬라이딩 윈도우를 적용하여 Haar-like 특징을 추출하고 보행자 및 차량을 인식한다. Haar-like 특징 추출 회로는 슬라이딩 윈도우 당 200개의 Haar-like 특징을 추출하며, 추출된 특징들은 AdaBoost 인식 회로에서 사용된다. 제안하는 회로는 속도 향상을 위해 병렬 회로 구조를 적용하였으며 두 개의 슬라이딩 윈도우가 동시에 보행자 또는 차량을 인식한다. 제안하는 고성능 보행자 및 차량 인식 회로는 Verilog HDL로 설계하였으며 130nm 표준 셀 라이브러리를 이용하여 게이트 수준의 회로로 합성하였다. 합성된 회로는 1,388,260개의 게이트로 구성되며 최대 동작 주파수는 203MHz이다. 제안하는 회로는 $640{\times}480$ 영상을 초당 약 47.8장 처리할 수 있기 때문에 보행자와 차량을 실시간으로 인식하기 위해 사용될 수 있다.

Seismic analysis for steel frame structure with brace configuration using topology optimization based on truss-like material model is studied. The initial design domain for topology optimization is determined according to original steel frame structure and filled with truss-like members. Hence the initial truss-like continuum is established. The densities and orientation of truss-like members at any point are taken as design variables in finite element analysis. The topology optimization problem of least-weight truss-like continuum with stress constraints is solved. The orientations and densities of members in truss-like continuum are optimized and updated by fully-stressed criterion in every iteration. The optimized truss-like continuum is founded after finite element analysis is finished. The optimal bracing system is established based on optimized truss-like continuum without numerical instability. Seismic performance for steel frame structures is derived using dynamic time-history analysis. A numerical example shows the advantage for frame structures with brace configuration using topology optimization in seismic performance.

Adaboost 알고리즘은 얼굴인식을 위한 Haar-like feature들을 이용하기 위해 가장 널리 쓰이고 있는 알고리즘이다. 매우 빠르며 효율적인 성능을 보이고 있으며 하나의 모델이미지가 존재하는 단일분포 데이터에 대해 매우 효율적이다. 그러나 정면 얼굴과 측면 얼굴을 혼합한 인식 등 둘 이상의 모델이미지를 가진 다중 분포모델에 대해서는 그 성능이 저하된다. 이는 단일 학습 알고리즘의 선형결합에 의존하기 때문에 생기는 현상이며 그 응용범위의 한계를 지니게 된다. 본 연구에서는 이를 해결하기 위한 제안으로서 Decision Tree를 Harr-like Feature와 결합하는 기법을 제안한다. Decision Tree를 사용 함으로서 보다 넓은 분야의 문제를 해결하기 위해 기존의 Decision Tree를 Harr-like Feature에 적합하도록 개선한 HDCT라고 하는 Harr-like Feature를 활용한 Decision Tree를 제안하였으며 이것의 성능을 Adaboost와 비교 평가하였다.

The HMG box containing protein (HBP) has a high mobility group domain and involved in the regulation of proliferation and differentiation of tissues. We screened HBP2 in glioblastoma using Suppression Subtractive Hybridization (SSH) and isolated human spermatogonial stem cell-like cells (hSSC-like cells) derived from patients of nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA). Expression of HBP2 was analyzed by RT-PCR in undifferentiated stem cells (human Embryonic Stem Cells, hSSC-like cells 2P) and spontaneous differentiated stem cells (hSSC-like cells 4P). It was overexpressed in hESC and hSSC-like cells 2P but not in hSSC-like cells 4P. Also, the expression level of HBP2 was downregulated in colon tumor tissues compared to normal tissues. Specifically in synchronized WI-38 cells, HBP2 was highly upregulated until the G1 phase of the cell cycle and gradually decreased during the S phase. Our results suggest that HBP2 was downregulated during the spontaneous differentiation of hSSC-like cells. HBP2 was differently expressed in colon tissues and was related to G1-progression in WI-38 cells. It may playa role in the maintenance of an undifferentiated hSSC-like cell state and transits from G1 to S in WI-38 cells. This research was important that it identified a biomarker for an undifferentiated state of hSSC-like cells and characterized its involvement to arrest during cell cycle in colon cancer.

Aerobic floc-like sludge was formed in a batch reactor and the effect of cations on the formation of aerobic floc-like sludge was studied. In order to enhance the formation (rate) of aerobic floc-like sludge, cations such as $K^+$, $Na^+$, $Ca^{2+}$, and $Mg^{2+}$ were added to the seed sludge. It was found that $Ca^{2+}$ had positive effect on the formation of floc-like sludge, as measured by sludge volume index (SVI) for settle ability. The formation of floc-like sludge was confirmed by the microscopic observation after DAPI staining. The scattered forms of sludge samples at the initial stage became aggregated to form floes after $Ca^{2+}$ addition. To ensure the functions of sludge floes in a treatment plant, the gradient of ionic species around the surfaces of floc-like sludge was monitored by ion selective microelectrodes for ${NH_4}^+,\;{NO_3}^-$, and pH. The effective concentration of $Ca^{2+}$ ion to form floc-like sludge was determined to be 750 mg/L (0.15 mg $Ca^{2+}/mg$ MLSS). Under the effective $Ca^{2+}$ condition, the SVI value was the lowest and large distribution of nitrifying bacteria at the outer surface was observed in the aerobic floc-like sludge. From the results, it was found that the calcium ion functioned as an agent for the formation of aerobic floc-like sludge, resulting in the enhanced nitrification.

본 연구에서는 불교세계관을 게임에 융합하는 방안 제안을 목적으로 한다. 분석대상으로 로그라이크(Rogue-like)게임 던그리드(Dungreed)와 감로왕도(甘露王圖)를 선정하였다. 다음으로, 감로왕도의 불교세계관 특성과 로그라이크 게임 던그리드를 비교 분석하였다. 그 결과, 본 연구는 불교세계관의 특성에서 나타난 로그라이크 게임요소를 제안하였다. 향후, 불교세계관을 통해 게임의 확장성을 살펴보고자 한다.
