Due to the large window area, the lighting environment of the educational space between the window and deep part of the room is not uniformly illuminated, and the phenomenon of glare is severe. For this reason, the daylight performance of DSC-BIPV windows was analyzed in order to improve the natural lighting in the educational sector. The method derives the correlation with natural lighting by measurement and simulation. Dynamic simulation confirmed that the average illuminance of the target space was higher at later than the early afternoon. The performance of natural lighting at 40% and 30% transmission of DSC has the effect of significantly reducing the amount of excess light in existing windows. Nevertheless, the actual average illuminance in all seasons corresponds to the standard illuminance of the educational facility, 300 Lux. In addition, the uniformity is also seen through the skylight illuminance ratio.
Recently, as the sleep disorder problem of modern people deepens, the interest towards quality of sleep is increasing. To increase the quality of modern people's sleep. This paper has suggested an LED lighting control system according to the sleep stage using PPG sensors of wearable devices. The pulse of the wrist radial artery was measured using a wearable device mounted with PPG sensor, which enables heart rate-measuring, and by using the point that heart rate lowers during stable sleep than non-sleeping, the LED lighting of indoors was controlled, which is the disturbing element when sleeping. For the performance evaluation, a 10-Fold cross analysis was conducted for performance evaluation, and a result of an average accuracy 87.02% was obtained as a result. Therefore, the LED lighting control system according to the sleep stage using a wearable device of this paper is expected to contribute to raise the quality of the user's life.
Daylighting systems can improve the luminous quality of indoor environment and reduce the building's electric lighting energy consumption. For designing good daylighting, place the light where it is desired and avoid excessive contrasts, glare and high light levels. Sun scoop, light scoop and sun catcher systems have been used for alternative systems compared to other natural lighting systems. This study aims to evaluate daylighting performance of sun scoop, light scoop and sun catcher systems using scale model experiments. For the purpose, the 1/10 scale models of the systems were made as the same areas of glazing(10 percent of floor area) on the top of the center roof. Totally 15 measuring points of illuminance on the horizontal work plane were monitored from 09:30 to 12:30 on October 29, 2007. Agilent data logger and photometric sensors Li-cor were used. As the results, the topside lighting systems can improve the illumination uniformity than side lighting and top lighting. However, the appropriated shading system should be integrated to prevent the direct sunlight.
For sustainable building design, using day lighting is considered a variable technique to save energy and create comfort indoor environments. Specially, the lightself as a integrated daylighting system is one of the most important techniques due to it's durability, availability and lighting performance. This paper aims to analyze the development and architectural application of a lightself system to buildings as a integrated day lighting system. For the study, advanced lightself systems developed in abroad such as "Integrated Enveloped and Lighting System", "Anidolic Daylighting System" and etc. are analyzed. Also, the architectural examples are investigated. As results, the new technologies such as optically treated reflective and sun-tracking are adopted to improve daylight performance. And, lots of environmentally friendly buildings are installed on integrated lightself system.
This study based on the experimental data on the daylight responsive dimming systems performance. The purpose of this study increases the energy-saving effects by reducing excessive intensity of radiation of artificial lighting through analyzing incident daylight. The photosensor sends amounts of detected luminous flux to digital control unit(DCU) as a signal and then, it can decide dimming ratios, by received a proper dimming signal from DCU. Generally it is effective to control artificial lighting with the different control ratio of each row by setting a photosensor as same numbers and rows as artificial lighting. However, it is ineffective to do in initial costs of systems aspect in offices. By analyzing the data of this performance and finding regular ration between photosensors. we will execute different dimming ratios to each row of artificial lighting by a single photosensor.
Various studies on lighting energy savings are conducted, given that lighting energy consumption accounts 23.5% of building energy consumption. Especially, external type light shelf's efficiency is acknowledged; however, its application is limited in Korea, where high rise building ratio is high, due to high wind pressure. This study delves into natural lighting system to cope with wind pressure, and proposes the punching plate-installed light shelf. This study actually draws lighting energy output, according to whether the punching plate is applied through the test-bed, and verifies the effectiveness of the punching plate-installed light shelf. The conclusion is presented below: First) The result of performance evaluation of light shelf with the punching plate in winter solstice showed that the awning area decreased as the opening ratio increased so that the indoor distributed illumination tended to increase, and $-40^{\circ}$ which was advantageous for awning was determined as the proper angle. Second) The light shelf with the punching plate in spring/autumn equinox shows improved lighting according to the angle, and the appropriate angle of light shelf with the punching plate has increased to $15^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$ according to the opening ratio in comparison to $5^{\circ}C$ which is the appropriate angle of light shelf with no punching plate due to the reflection area reduced by the reflecting plate with holes. Third) The result of performance evaluation of light shelf with the punching plate in summer solstice showed that the lighting performance tended to decrease as the opening ratio increased. 4) The light shelf with the punching plate incurs a 50% energy loss in comparison to the light shelf with no punching plate. However, its effectiveness has been proven in the aspects that it can bring a 50% energy saving in comparison to the case with no installation of light shelf and that it can be designed in response to wind pressure on the high floors.
Important determinants for selecting outdoor lighting are the color-rendering index (CRI) and scotopic-to-photopic (S/P) ratio of the lighting units. The higher the S/P ratio, the better energy savings and visual performance. In this study, CCT-tunable LED lighting units were optimized and fabricated by spectral combination of red, green, blue, and yellow LEDs. The measured results for RGB LEDs provided S/P ratios of 1.55~2.58 and those of RGBY LEDs gave 1.46~2.46 to the correlated color temperatures (CCTs) ranging from 2700 K to 6500 K, with CRI values of over 80 at the same time.
The purpose of this study is to check if LED lighting can be used as general lighting and examine the color rendering property of full color RGB LED lighting. CRI is one of the important properties of evaluating lighting. However the present CRI does not fully evaluate LED lightings. Firstly, the performance of a simple task was compared other than comparing CRI values for different lighting. For experimental preparation three types of lightings were used; standard D65 fluorescent tube, general household fluorescent tube, and RGB LED lighting. All three lightings show high error for Purple-Red. All three lightings show similar error for all hues and prove that color discrimination is not affected by the lighting. This proves that LED could be used as general lighting. Secondly, problems of the conventional CIE CRI method are considered and new models are suggested for the new lighting source. Each of the models was evaluated with visual experiment results obtained by the white light matching experiment. The suggested model is based on the CIE CRI method but replaces the color space model by CIELAB, color difference model by CIEDE2000, and chromatic adaptation model by CAT02.
Low road lighting is a lighting device that complements the shortcomings of existing pillar-type street lights. It is a lighting device that emits light from the side of the road surface and adjusts the luminance of the road surface like a light carpet. In this paper, to achieve full commercialization, we analyzed the luminance of the installed road surface and studied whether lighting could replace existing road lighting. In this study, the LMK (Luminance Measurement Camera) LABSOFT program was used to measure and analyze the surface luminance of road lighting, and the RELUX program was used to evaluate and analyze the simulation performance to determine light-based lighting conditions. A study was conducted to determine whether replacing pillar-type road lighting with low-level road lighting in a real environment would ensure comfortable and safe night vision for drivers at night.
In this study, we researched a pendant-type aspherical optical system, which could be applied to street lighting and security lighting in Europe. The goal of this research was eco-friendly artificial lighting that could be used for the one-to-one replacement of ordinary lighting. LED lighting was miniaturized by using one COB LED Module and one aspherical optical system, which could control the luminosity of the LED. Through the aspherical optical system, the light distribution angle could be controlled in a range of $140^{\circ}$ for the X-axis and $40^{\circ}$ for the Y-axis. This means that this optical system is appropriate for catenary-type lighting, which is widely used in Europe on both narrow and broad roads. The performance was determined using a lighting simulation program. This lighting system simulation showed that road rates M4 and M5 could be satisfied, with the condition of a 13-m height and 50-m distance (U0 and TI). The simulation program estimated that light pollution, which disturbs sleep, could beeliminated in the European streetlight case. Determining methods for the light distribution control, performance, and optimal lighting setup conditions is very important to prevent light pollution. Moreover, the initial step of developing the lighting system design and post management will require an effort with much analysis.
