Ionic liquids are steadily attracting interests throughout a recent decade and their application is expanding into various fields including electrochemistry due to their unique properties such as non-volatility, inflammability, low toxicity, good ionic conductivity, wide electrochemical potential window and so on. These features make ionic liquids become an alternative solution for electrodeposition of metals that cannot be electroplated in aqueous electrolytes. In this review, we classify investigated metals into three categories, which are light (Li, Mg), refractory (Ti, Ta) and noble (Pd, Pt, Au) metals, rather than covering the exhaustive list of metals and try to update the recent development in this area. In electrodeposition of light metals, granular fine Li particles were successfully obtained while the passivation of electrodeposited Mg layers is an obstacle to reversible deposition-dissolution process of Mg. In the case of refractory metals, the quality of Ta and Ti deposit particles was effectively improved with addition of LiF and pyrrole, respectively. In noble metal category, EMIM TFSA ionic liquid as an electrolyte for Au electrodeposition was proven to be effective and BMP TFSA ionic liquid developed a smooth Pd deposit. Pt nanoparticle production from ionic liquid droplet in aqueous solution can be cost-effective and display an excellent electrocatalytic activity.
Hydrogen in atmosphere can easily dissolve in melt of light metal alloys. Increasing demand for recycling of light metal a alloys has, therefore, focused attention on the removal of hydrogen gas, and alloy addition in melt has become an imporLant r refining process. For this purpose behaviors of mixing and hydrogen degassing in impeller agitated refming vessel with/without barnes were investigated. Flow patterns, mixing time behavior and kinetics of degassing in various agitating conditions were analysed in watet model experiments. And, numerical analysis on turbulent flow pattern in impeller agitated vessels was performed.

One of the barriers limiting wide applications of magnesium alloys to various industries is their poor corrosion resistance. The corrosion properties of AZ91 magnesium alloy, which is the most popular magnesium casting alloy, are affected by microstructural and environmental factors. The corrosion properties of AZ91 magnesium alloy are affected by the corrosion properties of ${\alpha}-Mg$ and ${\beta}$ phases, the volume fraction and distribution of ${\beta}$ phase and area ratio of ${\alpha}-Mg/{\beta}$ phases. The corrosion properties of AZ91 magnesium alloy under various environments also change according to the passivity of films and types of corrosion products formed on its surface. The corrosion resistance of the magnesium alloys can be improved by microstructural control through the addition of alloying elements and optimization of the production process.
The purpose of the present study was to seek bracket-adhesive combinations which have adequate bond strength with no enamel and bracket fracture. The shear bond strengths were measured, the sites of failure and the enamel damage were investigated and the peripheral sealing and adaptation between enamel surface, bonding adhesive and bracket were evaluated. 240 noncarious human premolars were divided into twenty four groups of ten teeth. Shear bond strengths of each group were determined in an universal testing machine after two days passed and the debonded specimens were inspected to determine the predominant bond failure sites. To evaluate peripheral sealing and adaption between enamel surface, adhesive and bracket, each specimen was cut longitudinally into two halves which included the midsection of the bracket, adhesive and enamel and exmined in scanning electron microscope. Six different types of brackets were bonded to the tooth with four different type of adhesives. Six different types of brackets were Image, Plastic, Crystaline, Fascination, Transcend 2000 and metal bracket and four different adhesives were No-mix, Light-Bond, OrthoLC and Superbond C&B. From this study, it may be concluded that (1) The mean shear bond strength varied from a high of 36.58 Kg (410.07 Kg/$cm^2$) with the Fascination-Light Bond combination group to a low of 8.93 Kg (75.51 Kg/$cm^2$) with theImage-OrthoLC combination group. When using OrthoLC as adhesive, the mean shear bond strength was significantly lower than that of other combination groups, (2) Regardless of adhesives, the mean shear bond strength of Fascination brackets was relatively high whereas Plastic and Image brackets had low shear bonding strength. The shear bond strength of Crystaline bracket and Transcend 2m was relatively equal to or lower than that of metal bracket, (3) There was a correlation between bond strength, enamel damage and bracket fracture. As the shear bond strength was increased, the rate of enamel damage and bracket fracture were increased, (4) The combination groups that use OrthoLC as adhesive were debonded in shear stress without enamel fracture and bracket fracture, whereas the combination groups that use Superbond C&B as adhesive experienced a relative high enamel fracture rate and bracket fracture rate, (5) Peripheral sealing and adaptation between enamel-adhesive-bracket were relatively good when using Light-Bond or No-mix as adhesive. Regardless of adhesives, adaptation between bracket-adhesive were relatively good in Ceramic brackets, (6) The combination groups which had adequate bonding strength with no enamel and bracket fracture were Crystaline-No mix, Crystaline-Light Bond, Crystaline-OrthoLC, metal-No mix, metal-Light Bond and metal-OrthoLC combination groups.

Ultraviolet curable coating solution was prepared with poly(ethylene glycol) acrylate oligomer and various mono and multi-functional acrylate monomers. The optical properties of UV cured coating layer on PET film with acrylate coating solution containing metal oxides, such as fumed silica and alumina, were also investigated to reduce light reflection on films. Poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate which has 575 of average molecular weight was used as oligomer acrylate, and pentaerythritol triacrylate and dipentaerythritolpenta-/hexa acrylate were used as multi-functional acrylate monomers. Also, butyl acrylate was used to improve the adhesion as well as to reduce glass transition temperature to give a better flexability. 1-hydroxy cyclohexyl phenyl ketone was used as photoinitiator. We found out the metal oxides in acrylate coating solution showed a homogeneous dispersion from energy dispersive spectroscopy data. Transmittance and light reflection of coated PET film was measured with UV/vis spectrometer and gloss meter, respectively. When 1.00 g of both metal oxides was added into coating solution, the transmittance and the glossiness were reduced from 90% to 30% and from 190 GU to 35 GU, respectively. However, adding up to 1.00 g of the metal oxide into coating solution did not affect on the hardness of coating layer and adhesion between coated layer and PET film. Conclusively, we can control transmittance and light reflection of coated film by adjusting the amounts of metal oxide in coating solution.

Recently the use of Pd catalyst have been continued to expand because of cost avaliabilityand performance advantages. Especially the Pd+Rh catalyst instead of the Pt+Rh catalyst had been used for most of three way catalysts because of the more stringent emission standards and its higher temperature effectiveness. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the design parameter impacts on the Pd+Rh cat-alyst for the automotive exhaust catalysts application. This study was investigated on the catalyst efficiency for the volume and the precious metal loading of the Pd+Rh ceramic monolithic cata-lyst. And experiments concerning the effects of volume and precious metal loading on Pd+Rh three way catalysts were conducted to examined the catalyst light-off temperature and conver-sion efficiency on higher volume demonstrated almost similar performance. But their effects on higher precious metal loading demonstrated considerably better performance.
Vision sensors using the optical triangulation have been widely used for automatic welding systems in various ways, but their reliability is seriously affected by presence of the arc noise. The reliability of vision sensors was analyzed with variation of the arc noise by considering the reflectance of the base metal. first, the properties of the base metal's reflection were modelled by using the Bidirectional Reflectance-Distribution Function(BRDF), and then the variation of the reflected arc intensity was formulated for various configurations of the torch, base metal, and sensor. The experimental data of the gray level of the reflected arc light were obtained for two materials, mild steel and stainless steel. It was found that the results calculated from the proposed model were in good agreement with the experimental data.
Gas metal arc welding(GMAW) is regarded as one of the best candidate for welding automation in industrial joining application. It is important to monitor the weld quality for the high performance weld automation. In GMAW, weld quality is closely related to arc stability especially. In this paper, arc light signal is measured and spectrum analyzed to the detect the variation of the weld quality. The FFT of the signal showed that the amplitude variance of FFT power spectrum was very large in poor weld process such as the decrease of weld bead width and height. The results show that it is possible to detect the weld defect position in weld process.

Recently, the ultra light metal structure with periodic and three dimensional truss elements takes attention because of its multi-functionality and substantial heat resistance. However, the complicated fabrication process leading to high cost has been a major obstacle to wide applications. In this paper, a new idea to construct an ultra light structure with periodic, three dimensional truss using metal wires is presented. To prove the practical validity, a Kagome-like structure was fabricated from stamped wires and punched face sheets. It was assembled by soldering. Through three-point bending and compression tests, the strength was evaluated and compared with the theory.

Recently, LED is widely used in the kinds of display devices or lighting. In this paper, we fabricated LED chamber light for naval vessels to replace to conventional chamber light using incandescent lamp. The LED package of chamber light was designed with luminous intensity of 5.5 cd, color temperature of $6,000{\pm}500K$, forward voltage of 3~3.2 V and input current of 60 mA. A LED module was composed of 36 LED packages and metal PCB. The VF and luminous intensity of LED package were getting down when temperature increased. The temperature of LED chamber light was measured by changing the number of LED package and applied current for one hour when an electric current flow. The heat transfer capability have been improved by using metal PCB. The power consumption of LED chamber light reduced by 86% compared to the conventional chamber light using incandescent lamp.
