Response of Rockfish to the Colored Lights (색광에 대한 조피볼낙의 반응)

  • The author carried out an experiment to find out the response of rockfish, Sebastes schlegeli(Hilgendorf) to the color lights. The experimental tank($360L{\times}50W{\times}55H\;cm$) was set up in a dark room. Six longitudinal sections with 60 cm intervals are marked in the tank to observe the location of the fish. Water depth in the tank was kept 50 cm level. Light bulbs of 20 W at the both ends of the tank projected the light horizontally into the tank. Two different colored filters were selected from four colors of red, blue, yellow, and white, and they were placed in front of the light bulbs to make different colors of light. Light intensity were controlled by use of auxiliary filters intercepted between the bulb and the filter. The fishes were acclimatized in the dark for 50 minutes before they were employed in the experiment. Upon turning on the light, the number of fish in each section was counted 40 times in 30 second intervals, and the mean of the number of fish in each section was given as the gathering rate of the fish. The colors favourited by the fish was found in the order of blue, white, yellow and red in day time, and yellow, blue, white and red at night time. The gathering rate of fish on illumination period was not constant and fluctuated with irregularity. The difference of the gathering rate on two different colors of light was great and the difference was larger in day time than in night time.

Performance Improvement for Visible Light Communications Using Pre-Equalizer and Optical Design (전치 등화기와 광학설계를 이용한 가시광통신 전송 용량 및 거리 향상 연구)

  • In this paper, we design the pre-equalizer of transmitter circuit in order to enhancement modulation bandwidth of white LED which is light source of VLC (Visible Light Communication). Also, we eliminate yellow light component by optical filtering which mitigate frequency response of white LED. Power loss by optical filtering is overcome by using convex lens. By applying proposed system, 3 dB bandwidth deciding modulation bandwidth of white LED increases from 3 MHz to more than 25 MHz and the transmission distance increases by optical design which secure additional signal power. We optically modulate NRZ-OOK signal to LED and receive light signal using APD. We analyze received data using CSA and RFSA. As a result, we experimently demonstrate the possibility that transmits NRZ-OOK signal up to 30 Mbps in 4.5 m, 50 Mbps in 1.5 m through the pre-equalizer and optical design.

  • LCD is supplied light by BLU(Back Light Unit) and the light represents color by each color filter. Also LCD adjusts the amount of light by controlling liquid crystal between the glass of upper plate and one of lower. However, it is impossible to completely exclude light due to the structural and physical characteristic of liquid crystal. Therefore, on transfering light through optical sheet and liquid crystal, many problems are generated. They are related with energy efficiency and get effective for the contrast of LCD to have lower contrast ratio than other display devices. To solve the problems, many techniques have been studied and developed but don't exist keys to solution for them. Among methods, local dimming is one example to be applied to LCD. In this paper we propose image processing algorithm for local dimming of BLU of LED used as light source. The proposed algorithm extracts maximum luminance signal and lights using each extracted signal on segmented region of BLU. Also the proposed algorithm generates image signal in corresponding to luminance of the segmented region and supplies them with LCD panel to represent image with improving luminance ratio.

  • In this paper, the parallel coupled line(PCL) band-pass filter satisfying IEEE 802.11a (a:$5.15{\sim}5.25$, b:$5.25{\sim}5.35$, c:$5.725{\sim}5.875$ [GHz]) has been designed for 5[GHz]band W-Lan RX-System applications. The designed PCL Band-Pass filter is of advantage to make a design formula that is small, light and approximate accuracy. It choose a microstrip plane figure because it is possible that a multiplicity of resonator was designed. It was shown that bandwidth was 14% from 5.15GHz to 5.92GHz at the -3dB designed filter. As a result, it is enough to use the designed filter at W-LAN RX-system of the 5GHz band.

Single-Phase Improved Auxiliary Resonant Snubber Inverter that Reduces the Auxiliary Current and THD

  • An LC filter is required to reduce the output current ripple in the auxiliary resonant snubber inverter (ARSI) for high-performance applications. However, if the traditional control method is used in the ARSI with LC filter, then unnecessary current flows in the auxiliary circuit. In addressing this problem, a novel load-adaptive control that fully uses the filter inductor current ripple to realize the soft-switching of the main switches is proposed. Compared with the traditional control implemented in the ARSI with LC filter, the proposed control can reduce the required auxiliary current, contributing to higher efficiency and DC-link voltage utilization. In this study, the detailed circuit operation in the light load mode (LLM) and the heavy load mode (HLM) considering the inductor current ripple is described. The characteristics of the improved ARSI are expressed mathematically. A prototype with 200 kHz switching frequency, 80 V DC voltage, and 8 A maximum output current was developed to verify the effectiveness of the improved ARSI. The proposed ARSI was found to successfully operate in the LLM and HLM, achieving zero-voltage switching (ZVS) of the main switches and zero-current switching (ZCS) of the auxiliary switches from zero load to full load. The DC-link voltage utilization of the proposed control is 0.758, which is 0.022 higher than that of the traditional control. The peak efficiency is 91.75% at 8 A output current for the proposed control, higher than 89.73% for the traditional control. Meanwhile, the carrier harmonics is reduced from -44 dB to -66 dB through the addition of the LC filter.

Design of Filter to Reject Motion Artifacts of PPG Signal Using Multiwave Optical Source (다파장 광원을 이용한 광용적 맥파의 동잡음 제거 필터 설계)

  • This study is proposed the novel PPG sensor device and the signal processing method to replace the acceleration sensor that is used to reject motion artifacts contained in photoplethysmography(PPG). The proposed method is to reject motion artifacts by an adaptive filter based on the estimated motion artifact by using a blue LED light. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method experimentally, We did design a novel sensor consisted of blue/red LEDs and photo-sensor and implemented, and then rejected the motion artifacts by using an adaptive filter and the implemented sensor. In the results of the experiments, it is shown that the proposed sensor device and signal processing can reconstruct the PPG signal despite the occurrence of motion artifacts, and also that the SNR was 4.5 times of moving average filter. According to the experimental results, the proposed method can be applied to design a low-cost device.

Computer Simulation for Gradual Yellowing of Aged Lens and Its Application for Test Devices

  • This paper proposes a simulation algorithm to assess the gradual yellowing vision of the elderly, which refers to the predominance of yellowness in their vision due to aging of the ocular optic media. This algorithm employed the spectral transmittance property of a yellow filter to represent the color appearance perceived by elderly people with yellow vision, and modeled the changes in the color space through a spectrum change in light using the yellow filter effect. The spectral reflectivity data of 1269 Munsell matte color chips were used as reference data. Under the standard conditions of a D65 illuminant and a $10^{\circ}$ observer of 1964 CIE, the spectrum of the 1269 Munsell colors were processed through the yellow filter effect to simulate yellow vision. Various degrees of yellow vision were modeled according to the transmittance percentage of the yellow filter. The color differences before and after the yellow filter effect were calculated using the DE2000 formula, and the color pairs were selected based on the color difference function. These color pairs are distinguishable through normal vision, but the color difference diminishes as the degree of yellow vision increases. Assuming 80% of yellow vision effect, 17 color pairs out of $(1269{\times}1268)/2$ pairs were selected, and for the 90% of yellow vision effect, only 3 color pairs were selected. The result of this study can be utilized for the diagnosis system of gradual yellow vision, making various types of test charts with selected color pairs.

The Study on Improvement of Thermal Stress Breakage in Infrared Transmissive Glass for Aircraft Searchlight (항공기용 탐조등 적외선 투과 유리의 열응력 파손 현상 개선 연구)

  • Aircraft searchlights are used in search or rescue missions when performing night missions, and provide infrared light to keep operations in concealment. During aircraft operation, the infrared ray transmission filter glass for generating infrared rays can break, resulting in problems such as loss of concealment ability and maintenance. In this paper, we describe the procedure for testing the operating conditions of the searchlight when the defect occurs and finding the cause of the defect. We also summarize various methods to improve the cause and process of making the improved filter prototype. In addition, we also describe the results of verifying the performance requirements of the searchlight. As a result of the test and verification, the damage of the filter was improved and the improved filter was applied to the aircraft.
