  • Luis Barragan is a representative Mexican architect. He designed architectural space as a local architect in consideration of the Mexico's harsh Mediterranean climate. His manifestation of the regionality can be found mainly in his precise expression of light. Such method and concept of using light in Barragan's architecture made a huge impact on later architects but detailed studies on this issue have not been made actively. Hence, this paper intended to suggest a starting point or an orientation by illustrating the characteristics of using and expressing light in architecture through his cases of housing works. The study method was as follows. First, the general characteristics of light were identified by analyzing the elements of architectural space that dealt with light and the characteristics of expressing light shown in the architectural space. Second, the architectural background of Luis Barragan and the architectural space elements of the light expressed in his architectural space were extracted to form a hypothetical ground. Third, five of his works on the houses in his prime (after the year of 1945) were analyzed to explore the characteristics of relational representation between light and the architectural space elements in his architecture. Through this process, it was learned that, in his architectural works, light was the embodiment of the location-related, time-based, daily and illusionary experience into architecture. In addition, meditative light could be experienced by contrasting the soft and dispersed light and shadow of the inside space of Barragan's houses with the strong external light. Therefore, through the process above, this study is hoped to provide an opportunity for the contemporary architects of our era to rethink the fundamental correlation between architecture and light.

  • The most periodlengths($\tau$) of conidiation of Neurospora were shortened in the medium with Li$^+$, Rb$^+$, and Cs$^+$ under the blue or green light. The higher the concentration of the heavy metal elements are, the shorter the circadian lengths are. The largest differences between the maxima- and minima circadian lengths showed in the medium with LiCI, RbCl, and CsCI under the blue lights at 150 Lux, while the little differences of circadian lengths presented in 1 mM heavy metal elements at the 270Lux blue light. Li$^+$ under the blue light effected extremely much and in the order of Rb$^+$ and Cs$^+$ on the conidiation of Neurospora. Under the green lights at 270Lux, the smallest changes of the circadian lengths are resulted in the medium with heavy metal elements. The other way at the green light 150Lux, the conidiation is stimulated by lmM LiCI or RbCl for the average 0.71h and 0.29h longer than the periodlength of control 28.34h. The medium with Li$^+$ under the green light has less effect on the conidiation rhythm of Neurospora than with Rb$^+$ or Cs$^+$.

  • In Catholic Cathedrals, the Liturgy space is central to the worship of the church and the player. The composition of the liturgical space affects the sensitivity of the worshiper. Because this sensitivity is connected with the faith, it is a very important consideration for planning elements. In this study, the light sensitivity of the elements that identify the most important factors in changing the devotion and in liturgical space was planned to emphasize the role of light. Understanding the meaning and importance of the liturgical space determine the spatial phase and role. Therefore, to analyze the functional and emotional properties of the light, the properties, roles and conditions of the light were organized. The data was analyzed as the target of sensitivity to light. Through the case studies of light, the effectiveness and adequacy as well as the application conditions could be understood. The results obtained in this study suggest a plan for light elements applied in the liturgical space.

  • Photoelectric observations of the close eclipsing binary system CW Cep, which is well known of its apsidal motion, were made on 20 nights during August and November in 1983 using two 61cm reflectors at the Sobaeksan Observing Station of Korean National Astronomical Observatory and I1san Observing Station of Yonsei University Observatory. Standardized new light curves in UBV system are presented with a total of 1,422 individual observations. For the corrections of regional and instrumental differences, same standard stars were observed at the two observatories. Four new times of minimum light were determined with the method of Kwee and van Woerden(1956). With all of the collected times of minima, apsidal motion of this system was checked, but the O-C values calculated by the light elements of Nha(1975) and Soderhjelm (1976) did not coincide well with new times of minima. New light elements which satisfy most times of minima better, and are deduced the apsidal period derived by the new light elements turns out to be 43 years, somewhat longer than those of values previously known.

  • A simple and direct method is developed for the determination of light Elements in atmospheric particulates by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. Calibration standards for the light elements such as Al, Mg, K, Ca, etc are prepared by filtering real atmospheric particulates over variable time and subsequently standardizing them by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry(ICP-MS) or Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry(AAS) analysis. The validity of this calibration method is tested by analyzing more than 100 aerosol samples, collected at urban(Seoul) and rural(Padori) sites over a two year period with this method and then comparing them with those by other accuracy proven methods such as AAS or ICP-MS: for all metals tested the results showed reasonably good agreements (R $\geq$ 0.95).

  • The food and beverage spaces of modern industrial society have transformed from a simple space for meals into a space of culture, communication and experience as society becomes more complex and diverse along side economic growth. An interior designer who is rapidly rising on this flow of change is Yukio Hashimoto. While working for interior design firm Super Potato, which highlights food and beverage spaces, he was much affected by the expression methods of representative designer Takashi Sugimoto, who makes use of natural elements. By using these expression methods that make use of natural elements in his own creation of spatial ambience and elements of experience and by adding his own differentiated expression methods, he emphasizes an effective spatial expression for food and beverage spaces. The design characteristics of Yukio Hashimoto's food and beverage spaces are as follows. First natural elements like light and water are recreated as memories of nature after being established through a methodology that allows these elements to penetrate his own thoughts. Second, he pursues a hybrid design through the harmony between past tradition and current expressive techniques. Third, he expresses objets of light through a formative sense of shape expressed with light.. Fourth, he establishes an axis in the interior space by light and structure and endows a strong directionality that induces symmetric characteristics, gaze, and movement.. Fifth, he installs lights at the bottom of weighty materials and expresses a sense of floating by light. Sixth, he uses an illusion technique that makes use of the ambiguity and depth of space resulting from reflecting materials like mirrors. The study hopes that such design expression characteristics of food and beverage spaces can be used as data for interior designers to apply and develop a new design vocabulary.

  • Light has been considered as one of the most important elements in architectural design. Light provides occupants in buildings a lot of architectural experiences by interrelating the space, shape and other design elements. Especially, natural light is the valuable source to create the better indoor space compared to artificial light. It is a sustainable energy source and offers a more natural environment. It also enables occupants to perceive the form and depth of space. In general. many of architects including Henri Ciriani have tried to design buildings with natural light expecting optimum indoor environment. Therefore, this paper tried to examine the works of Henri Ciriani and analyze how to control the light in his works. For this purpose, two museums designed by Henri Ciriani-Arles Museum of Archaeology and Great War Historical Museum in Peronne - were selected to analyze how Henri Ciriani used light in his design phase and applied it to his museum works. According to the results of the study, it has been proved that Henri Ciriani tried to realize a space continuum through the spatial expansion, openness and closeness by natural light and incorporate the architectural form, interior space and exhibition circulation with natural light in order to create innovative exhibition space in museum buildings.

  • There have been light pollution standards just for architectural lighting and sign in the "Light Pollution Abatement Law" so far. However, both of them regulate only one of the three main light pollution elements-"Glare". Therefore, it is imperative to do research on the other two light pollution elements-"Upward" and "Light Trespass" and make proper restriction. Subsequently, this study focuses on the upward light from the street light and suggests its analysis method. Eventually, this study aims to make viable management which is suitable for the nation and, in addition, to suggest appropriate level of restriction to "Light Pollution Abatement Law" by doing site survey.
