Adversarial Shade Generation and Training Text Recognition Algorithm that is Robust to Text in Brightness (밝기 변화에 강인한 적대적 음영 생성 및 훈련 글자 인식 알고리즘)

  • The system for recognizing text in natural scenes has been applied in various industries. However, due to the change in brightness that occurs in nature such as light reflection and shadow, the text recognition performance significantly decreases. To solve this problem, we propose an adversarial shadow generation and training algorithm that is robust to shadow changes. The adversarial shadow generation and training algorithm divides the entire image into a total of 9 grids, and adjusts the brightness with 4 trainable parameters for each grid. Finally, training is conducted in a adversarial relationship between the text recognition model and the shaded image generator. As the training progresses, more and more difficult shaded grid combinations occur. When training with this curriculum-learning attitude, we not only showed a performance improvement of more than 3% in the ICDAR2015 public benchmark dataset, but also confirmed that the performance improved when applied to our's android application text recognition dataset.

  • The light is one of the most important factors in architectural design. Especially, natural light is the valuable source of illumination that can be utilized for better indoor environment. Compared to artificial light, it is a sustainable energy source without the cost of electric energy and offers a more natural feeling to residents stayed in buildings. Natural light also creates light and shadow in building. It enables people to perceive the depth of space. Many architects have tried to suggest various technologies to create optimum indoor environment by using the natural light. Therefore, this paper tried to examine the works of Le Corbusier and to analyze how to control the light in his works and apply it to his design. It will help to know how he created different characteristics to spaces by using natural light.

BER Performance of DS/CDMA-BPSK Systemin 3-State Land Mobile Satellite fading Channel (3-상태 육상이동위성 페이딩 채널에서 DS/CDMA-BPSK 시스템의 오율 성능)

  • The increasing number of users of mobile communication systems and the corresponding need for increased system capacity require the use of a modulation scheme which is both power and spectrally efficient. In this paper, we numerically calculate the BER performance of DS/CDMA-BPSK system in different fading channel (Rayleigh, Rician, Shadow Rician). Also, we calculate BER performance and the channel capacity of DS/CDMA-BPSK system which is constant or nearly constant envelopes in 3-state fading channel model. The Shadow Rician fading model described in this paper apply the parameters of the Canadian Mobile Satellite (MSAT). And we assume that the 3-state fading channel model is consist of Rayleigh fading state, Rician fading state, and shadow Rician fading state. This model can be used as a basis for the simulation of the land mobile satellite channel. The dynamic 3-state fading channel model is considered corresponding to different environments and the transitions between these environments. From the numerically calculate results, the DS/CDMA-BPSK system with MUI-20, PG-511 can not achieve the BER performance ($P_b\leq10^{-5}$). And the channel capacity did not meet the system requirement. Also, we know that the BER performance is depend m the occupancy probability of radio channel and the degree of shadow. From the results, we how that during shadowed time intervals it is necessary to use some form of error control coding and receiver diversity in order to support reliable data communication.

  • Shadows are important elements in producing a realistic image. Generation of exact shapes and positions of shadows is essential in rendering since it provides users with visual cues on the scene. It is also very important to be able to create soft shadows resulted from area light sources since they increase the visual realism drastically. In spite of their importance. the existing shadow generation algorithms still have some problems in producing realistic shadows in real-time. While image-based rendering techniques can often be effective1y applied to real-time shadow generation, such techniques usually demand so large memory space for storing preprocessed shadow maps. An effective compression method can help in reducing memory requirement, only at the additional decoding costs. In this paper, we propose a new image-barred shadow generation method based on image warping. With this method, it is possible to generate realistic shadows using only small sizes of pre-generated shadow maps, and is easy to extend to soft shadow generation. Our method will be efficiently used for generating realistic scenes in many real-time applications such as 3D games and virtual reality systems.

  • Modem church architecture in korea have many problems in the shape and composition of space and design method. Many church were built without consideration of the identity of the christian religion. The characters of Ando Tadao's church architecture are using the transition space, light and the symbol. The transition space similar to the approach process using in asian temple. It make a meditative space for the church during approach to the chapel. Ando Tadao make meditative space by using self-support wall. In here, Self-supporting wall devide space as the holly space and the common space. Light is very important element in church architecture. He introduce light and shadow in the chapel more significant element. Light and shadow make the space with very dignity. Also, Ando Tadao use symbol as important element. It make the identity of christian religion. He make that as a part of structure. The well-controled symbols change the simple space to more religious place.

Design and Verification of Hybrid Optical System for LED Surgical Light

  • This paper presents a hybrid single optical system for an LED surgical light that combines the advantages of both lens- and reflector-type single optical systems. The proposed hybrid single optical system includes a lens in the center and the LED light originating from the lens is redirected using a reflector to achieve a high beam spread. Iterative optical software simulations are used to provide data for the design of the lens and reflector for a single optical system, and for a complex optical system for the LED light assembly. The resulting data is also used to fabricate a prototype system. Experiments using the prototype of the hybrid single optical system and a mock-up LED surgical light confirm the system's shadow dilution performance and its applicability to surgical operations.

  • For the shadow removal technology that is the base technology of the image detection system, real-time image processing has a problem that the processing speed is reduced due to the calculation complexity and it is also sensitive to illumination or light because shadows are removed only by the difference in brightness. Therefore, in this paper, we improved real-time performance by reducing the calculation complexity through the removal of the weighting part in order to solve the problem of the conventional system. In addition, we designed and evaluated an image detection system based on a shadow removal algorithm that could improve the shadow recognition rate using a vertical histogram. The evaluation results confirmed that the average speed increased by approximately 5.6ms and the detection rate improved by approximately 5.5%p compared to the conventional image detection system.

  • We present a simple method of determining the absolute order of moire fringes formed by the moire shadow topography with a criss-crossed grating. Two experimental methods in this topography are proposed and demonstrated; one is to change the ratio of x and y pitches in a criss-crossed grating after fixing the position of a light source and a camera, and the other is to change the position of a light source and a camera after fixing the ratio of x and y pitches in a criss-crossed grating.

Middle School Student's Evidence Evaluation (중학생들의 빛과 그림자에 대한 증거 평가)

  • This study investigated student's prior conceptions and evidence evaluation about Light and shadow. One hundred twenty six students were given Explanation-after-choice type Questions to investigate student' prior conceptions and Choicd type Question to identify student's idea about scientific method and characteristics od observation. Forty-four of the 126 students were interviewed to explore student's evidence evaluation. Eighty students (63.5%) thought that the shape of material affected the shape of shadow but the shape of light source did not Only 58.8 precents of all responses were evidence-based responses. Characteristics of evidence affected student's evidence evaluation : student made evidence-based responsed to the accord evidence more frequently than discord evidence. Among evidence-based response to the discord evidence. 35.5% of responses were the case that student felt cognitive conflict or explored other variables by recognizing discord between his/her own ideas and evidence or distort the evidence. Student's idea about characteristics of observation did not affect the evidence evaluation, but student's idea about scientific method affected the evidence evaluation.

A Study on Cognition and Perception of Space through Contrast and Integration of Light and Darkness (빛과 어둠의 대비와 통합에 나타난 공간의 지각과 인식에 관한 연구)

  • In the history of art and architecture, there are different characteristics in relationship between light and space. Among them, two characteristics seem to be fundamental : The first is that contrast between light and darkness is more articulated. Direct sunlight penetrates into the dark interior space made by heavy masonry structure. This is generally found in the traditional western religious buildings. The second is that light is mixed with darkness and becomes shade. Shade is different from shadow that is usually perceived as the opposite of light. Sunlight is filtered under through the big horizontal roof and rice paper walls in the traditional far-east Asian architecture and becomes weak ambient light. In this shade, there is no strong contrast between light and darkness. This difference is not only originated from the architectural differences, but also originated from the conceptual differences about light, space, and the world in two cultures. This paper tries to study the philosophical, aesthetical backgrounds as well as case examples in art and architecture of two characteristics. Based on the case studies, this paper aims to analyze the main perceptual structure. Finding the relationship between light, space, and human body by making three dimensional models is the crucial analysis method of this research. Although in real life and experiencing the world, these two characteristics are not clearly separated, comparative study based on different cultures gives opportunity to think of diverse perspectives on light and space.
