  • In wireless sensor networks, energy is the most important consideration because the lifetime of the sensor node is limited by battery. The clustering is the one of methods used to manage network energy consumption efficiently and LEACH(Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) is one of the most famous clustering algorithms. LEACH utilizes randomized rotation of cluster-head to evenly distribute the energy load among the sensor nodes in the network. The random selection method of cluster-head does not guarantee the number of cluster-heads produced in each round to be equal to expected optimal value. And, the cluster head in a high-density cluster has an overload condition. In this paper, we proposed both a token based cluster-head selection algorithm for guarantee the number of cluster-heads and a cluster selection algorithm for uniform-density cluster. Through simulation, it is shown that the proposed algorithm improve the network lifetime about 9.3% better than LEACH.

  • Wireless sensor networks (WSN) consisting of a largenumber of sensors aims to gather data in a variety of environments and is beingused and applied in many different fields. The sensor nodes composing a sensornetwork operate on battery of limited power and as a result, high energyefficiency and long network lifetime are major goals of research in the WSN. Inthis paper we propose a novel cluster-based local multi-hop routing protocolthat enhances the overall energy efficiency and guarantees reliability in thesystem. The proposed protocol minimizes energy consumption for datatransmission among sensor nodes by forming a multi-hop in the cluster. Moreover, through local cluster head rotation scheme, it efficiently manageswaste of energy caused by frequent formation of clusters which was an issue inthe existing methods. Simulation results show that our scheme enhances energyefficiency and ensure longer network time in the sensor network as comparedwith existing schemes such as LEACH, LEACH-C and PEACH.

  • Many methods have been researched to prolong sensor network lifetime using mobile technologies. In the mobile sink research, there are the track based methods and the anchor points based methods as representative operation methods for mobile sinks. However, the existing methods decrease Quality of Service (QoS) and lead the routing hotspot in the vicinity of the mobile sink. The reason is that they use static mobile paths that are not concerned about the network environments such as the query position and the data priority. In this paper, we propose the novel mobile sink operation method that solves the problems of the existing methods. In our method, the probing priority of the mobile sink is determined with the data priorities for increasing the QoS and the mobile features are used for reducing the routing hotspot. The experimental results show that the proposed method reduces query response time and improves network lifetime over the existing methods.

  • Cognitive radio technology can allow secondary users (SUs) to access unused licensed spectrums in an opportunistic manner without interfering with primary users (PUs). Spectrum sensing is a key technology for cognitive radio (CR). However, few studies have examined energy-efficient spectrum sensing in cognitive radio sensor networks (CRSNs). In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient cooperative spectrum sensing nodes selection scheme for cluster-based cognitive radio sensor networks. In our proposed scheme, false alarm probability and energy consumption are considered to minimize the number of spectrum sensing nodes in a cluster. Simulation results show that by applying the proposed scheme, spectrum sensing efficiency is improved with a decreased number of spectrum sensing nodes. Furthermore, network energy efficiency is guaranteed and network lifetime is substantially prolonged.

  • In Ad-Hoc Networks, the limited energy is the key issue for longer network operation time. To solve this problem, various energy-aware routing techniques have been proposed including PSR (Power-aware Source Routing), HPSR (Hirachical Power-aware Source Routing), and etc. Those techniques generally select the most adequate route considering the energy consumption so that the energy efficiency can be improved. However, There are problems in those techniques that traffic can be concentrated in some specific area in a network. In this paper, a new energy aware routing technique called MPSR is proposed to achieve longer network lifetime and fewer rerouting attempts.

  • Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a promising technology for monitoring physical phenomena at fine-grained spatial and temporal resolution. However, the typical approach of sending each sensed measurement out of the network for detailed spatial analysis of transient physical phenomena may not be an efficient or scalable solution. This paper focuses on in-network physical phenomena detection schemes, particularly the distributed computation of the boundary of physical phenomena (i.e. event), to support energy efficient spatial analysis in wireless sensor networks. In-network processing approach reduces the amount of network traffic and thus achieves network scalability and lifetime longevity. This study investigates the recent advances in distributed event detection based on in-network processing and includes a concise comparison of various existing schemes. These boundary detection schemes identify not only those sensor nodes that lie on the boundary of the physical phenomena but also the interior nodes. This constitutes an event geometry which is a basic building block of many spatial queries. In this paper, we introduce the challenges and opportunities for research in the field of in-network distributed event geometry boundary detection as well as illustrate the current status of research in this field. We also present new areas where the event geometry boundary detection can be of significant importance.

  • Based on the current solutions to the problem of energy hole, this paper proposed a nonuniform node distribution clustering algorithm, NNDC. Firstly, we divide the network into rings, and then have an analysis and calculation on nodes' energy consumption in each ring of the network when clustering algorithm is applied to collect data. We also put forward a scheme of nonuniform node distribution on the basis of the proportion of nodes' energy consumption in each ring, and change nodes' active/hibernating states under density control mechanism when network coverage is guaranteed. Simulation shows NNDC algorithm can satisfyingly balance nodes' energy consumption and effectively avoid the problem of energy hole.

  • One of the major challenges in the design of wireless sensor network (WSN) is to reduce the energy consumption of sensor nodes for prolonging the network lifetime. In the sensor network, communication is the most energy consuming event. Therefore, most of the energy saving techniques conserve energy by adjusting different parameters of the trans-receiver. Among them, one of the promising methods is the transmission power control (TPC). In this paper, we investigated the effects of the link quality based TPC scheme employed to the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for energy saving. The simulation results demonstrated that the link quality based TPC scheme works effectively in conserving energy as compared to the conventional IEEE 802.15.4.

  • Detecting intrusion attacks accurately and rapidly in wireless networks is one of the most challenging security problems. Intrusion attacks of various types can be detected by the change in traffic flow that they induce. Wireless industrial networks based on the wireless networks for industrial automation-process automation (WIA-PA) standard use a superframe to schedule network communications. We propose an intrusion detection system for WIA-PA networks. After modeling and analyzing traffic flow data by time-sequence techniques, we propose a data traffic prediction model based on autoregressive moving average (ARMA) using the time series data. The model can quickly and precisely predict network traffic. We initialized the model with data traffic measurements taken by a 16-channel analyzer. Test results show that our scheme can effectively detect intrusion attacks, improve the overall network performance, and prolong the network lifetime.
