Purpose: The goal of this study was to investigate the factors influencing health promoting behaviors in elderly individuals according to types of residency. Method: This was a descriptive study. The subjects were comprised of 243 elderly aged 65 years or over living in 3 large cities. The instruments used for this study were a health promoting lifestyle, perceived health status, geriatric depression short form scale-Korea, social support scale, and self-efficacy. The data was analyzed using SPSS Win 12.0. Result: Powerful predictors of a health promoting lifestyle were depression, self-efficacy, and perceived health status for the elderly living at home. In the cases of the elderly living in institutions, a powerful predictor of a health promoting lifestyle was identified as social support. Conclusion: For the operation of long-term care insurance, a service for home care programs is needed for the elderly living at home in order to reduce depression and to increase self-efficacy and perceived health status. In addition, social support provided by health-care professionals should be developed to promote a healthy lifestyle for the elderly living in institutional environments.
Purpose: This study was to investigate the lifestyle characteristics and risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) among workers with metabolic syndrome(MS). Methods: The descriptive cross-sectional survey design was used. A total of 187 workers with MS were recruited from a university hospital. The anthropometric measures were used and blood data were reviewed from the health record. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regressions with SPSS/WIN 12.0. Results: While 52.2% of women did not do exercise regularly, 30.5% of men did not at all. The prevalence of MS according to each component was as follows: hypertension was 92.0%, obesity was 89.8%, hyperlipidemia was 63.1%, and hyperglycemia was 61.0%. The high prevalence of each component of MS in workers with MS indicated a significantly higher risk of CVD. The odds ratio of risk of CVD was 16.04 (p=.017) in workers with hypertension, when compared to workers without hypertension. Similarly, the odds ratio of risk of CVD was 11.04 (p=.000) in workers with hyperglycemia, compared to workers without hyperglycemia. Conclusion: Increased risk of CVD was significantly associated with lifestyle characteristics and MS risk factors among Korean workers with MS.
Domestic distribution environment in Korea has rapidly and qualitatively been developed due to the open of distribution market. However, the function of commercial establishment goes beyond the place value that simple transaction of capacity takes place, and it is recognized as life groove space enhancing the satisfaction of costumers' purchasing pattern. For this reason, there has been the need to change the purchasing environment of commercial space. The change factors of commercial space contributed to the establishment of consumption identity formed by change of consumers' lifestyle and the purchasing pattern. It is necessary to see the change factors of the purchasing pattern as the conversion of distribution environment in terms of supplier and as the change of consumers' lifestyle in terms of consumers. In reality, however, the commercial facility ill-imitated the advanced model and qualitatively was developed. In this situation, the change of the purchasing pattern according to the conversion of facility is needed as an early stage. The purpose of this study is to analyze the overflow supply of commercial facility. Also It will discuss the plan characteristics of commercial space conversion of facility conforming to the change of the purchasing pattern that is predicted in the lifestyle on a conversion stage of facility.
Changes in male roles and lifestyle in recent years have brought about an increased interest in appearance and apparel for men. The purpose of this study was to classify consumers into categories based on style of men's business suits and describe the resulting categories in terms of lifestyle, clothing behavior, appearance and demographic variables. Data were obtained from questionnaires completed by 513 consumers 20-69 years of age living in Seoul, and analyzed by factor analysis, multiple discriminant analysis, one-way ANOVA, CROSSTAB, and S-N-K test. Resulting categories of consumers were labeled as formal, semi-formal and casual. Descrip-tive profiles of the three categories were developed differently by 2 lifestyle factors (positive opinion leadership, social participation), 1 clothing factor (conformity), 2 appearance factors (conservative, energetic), and 2 demographic variables (age, marital status). The semi-formal type of man is significantly different from the two other types in his group activities that require social participation and opinion leadership. The formal type is significantly different from the two other types in his conformity in clothing and conservative appearance. The majority of formal and semi-formal types of men were 25-39 years of age and married, while the casual type was younger and unmarried.

Specifically, the study categorized the adolescents by their lifestyles and investigated the differences among the groups in regard to shopping orientation, clothing purchase behavior through Internet, and demographics. The subjects for the study were 319 middle and high school students. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncan test, and $X^2$ test. The results showed that there were three lifestyle groups: Internet/fashion interest group, study oriented group, and family oriented/self-confidence group. The shopping orientations had 6 factors, and Internet purchase behavior included 5 dimensions of clothing purchase types through Internet, apparel selection criteria, and Internet purchase experiences. The groups were significantly different in regard to their shopping orientations, clothing purchase behavior through Internet, and demographics. For example, Internet/fashion interest group ($47\%$) tended to shop impulsively online. When purchasing clothing products online, the group considered the external factors, such as advertisements and fashion more important.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the factors associated with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) risk in patients with metabolic syndrome (MS). Methods: Patients with MS between 30 and 74 years of age were recruited in an outpatient clinic of a cardiovascular center in Seoul, South Korea. MS and the risk of OSA were evaluated by Berlin questionnaire survey, the medical records of the participants were reviewed and a comprehensive lifestyle survey was performed. SPSS WIN 21.0 was used for statistical analysis. Results: BMI (OR: 1.31, CI: 1.14-1.51, p<.001) and lifestyle score (OR: 0.96, CI: 0.93-0.99, p=.028) were associated with the risk of OSA. Physical activity, weight control and diet were specifically associated with the risk of OSA after controlling for age, gender and BMI. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that lifestyle was an important factor associated with OSA risk in patients with MS.
The purposes of this study were to segment knit wear consumers by their lifestyles and to examine knit wear purchase behavior among the lifestyle segments. The subjects of this study were female consumers who were residents in Seoul and metropolitan areas. The researchers distributed the questionnaires and the final sample of 357 was used for the data analysis. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to estimate the effects of lifestyle factors on metabolic syndrome (MS) among Korean adults ($age{\geq}20$). Methods: A total of 7,798 subjects (weighted subjects=37,215,961) were recruited from the 2009 Fourth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES IV-3). Data were analyzed by t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test, and logistic regression in consideration of strata, cluster and weight as national data using the SAS 9.1 program. Results: The prevalence of MS by definition of AHA/NHLBI and waist circumference cutoff points for Koreans was 22.4%. The mean clinical MS score for MS patients was 3.4, but the mean score for the non-MS group was 1.2 out of 5.0. Among the lifestyle factors, smoking (OR=1.024), stress ($0.546{\leq}OR{\leq}0.587$) and drinking (OR=1.005) had significant influence on the MS risk and MS scores, but exercise did not. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that further research is necessary on the effect of lifestyle factors on MS risk and nurses should focus on effective programs about smoking, stress and drinking for the prevention and reduction of MS risk.
