This research investigates and characterizes lifestyles and housing preferences of Korean-American Baby Boomers in the USA, and proposes future housing design and planning directions to meet their needs. A questionnaire survey was conducted from June to September 2012 examining lifestyles and preferred characteristics of postretirement homes. We targeted Korean-Americans born from 1955 to 1963 in either Korea or the USA who currently reside in New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Lansing, Grand Rapids, and San Francisco. To analyze the 247 responses, we employed factor analysis, cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA, and crosstabs. Respondents preferred three-bedroom, singlefamily housing types with a size of 26-35 pyong, favoring city outskirts or suburbs over urban areas. Four groups having different lifestyle types were identified: innovators, believers, fashion experiencers, and makers. Housing preference differed depending on lifestyle types. The 'innovator' group desired homes 56 pyong or larger, while the other groups preferred 26-36 pyong. The four lifestyle groups did not show statistically significant differences in most of preferred housing features, community facilities, or indoor environmental characteristics. Each group still showed slightly different preferences in some housing planning characteristics, which future planners can refer to when providing postretirement homes for them.

The rate of single-person households has been increasing all over the world, and there has been a particularly rapid increase in them in Korea. Single-person households show unique and various characteristics related to the reasons for becoming a single-person household, gender, life cycle, and so on. Thus, research needs to focus on the specific groups of single-person households in order to provide tailored policies and programs. This study segmented single-person households in three groups based on life cycle: young, middle-aged, and older adults. Differences in the level of healthy lifestyle, as well as factors affecting that, were investigated according to the groups. The data were collected in 2022, with 237 respondents from single-person households in Kimpo. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were conducted. The overall level of healthy lifestyle was found to be significantly higher for young adults compared to older adults. Results from multiple regression show that significant factors related to the healthy lifestyle of single-person households were gender, educational attainment, whether becoming a single-person household was voluntary, and whether the respondents had experienced discrimination as a single-person household. This study explores economic and psychological factors as well as dietary, clothing, and dwelling lifestyle factors that influence the happiness of college students. For this, a survey of 570 students (222 males and 348 females) was conducted using 72 categories, including general characteristics, the happiness index, the health index, and economic, psychological, dietary, clothing, and dwelling factors. Gender differences in student characteristics were analyzed through an independent samples t-test, and relationships between variables were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficients. Variables showing significant correlations with the happiness index were classified as independent variables for the dependent variable of the happiness index and used for a regression analysis. The happiness index showed no significant gender difference, but it was higher for males than for females. Males scoring higher in the economic lifestyle and self-esteem, among others, were more likely to think practically, and their economic lifestyles were relatively rational. In both genders significant positive correlations were found between the happiness index and allowance satisfaction, the allowance level, the economic lifestyle, self-esteem, major satisfaction, and peer satisfaction. Variables more likely to influence the happiness index for males were self-esteem, peer satisfaction, the economic level, major satisfaction, and regular exercise, whereas those for females were self-esteem, peer satisfaction, and stress eating. These results indicate that emotional factors such as self-esteem and peer satisfaction were more likely to influence the happiness index of college students for both genders than economic and physical factors.
