Since John Davy reported the first well-documented case of occlusive disease involving the branches of the aortic arch in 1839, many similar cases have been reported in literature, especially from oriental countries. The prognosis and symptoms depend on the degree and extent of the occlusive lesions and also on the importance of the arteries affected. The course may progress slowly or rapidly with remissions and exacerbation, and death may result from acute CVA, cardiac failure or pulmonary edema, and renal failure. No medical therapy has been able to alter conclusively the course of the disease, so various surgical procedures have been applied to relieve the obstruction and to prolong the life. We present the case of an 18 year-old female with multiple stenosis of the aorta, and performed the long bypass graft from descending aorta to common lilac artery, and the result was excellent.

A prototype probabilistic approach to thickness design for asphalt pavement surface course was developed using first-order second moment probability model. The tensile strain (load effect) developing at the bottom of surface layer due to the wheel load and the critical strain (resistance) of asphalt concrete were used as random variables for pavement reliability analysis. Based on the parameters for load effect and resistance data collected from reference and field, simulated data were generated by Monte Carlo method for reliability evaluation of the pavement for a typical rural highway. Thickness of pavement surface course was defined in terms of target reliability of the pavement, growth factor of traffic, design life of pavement and resistance of the asphalt concrete to be placed on the pavement. According to these rationales, prototype thickness design chrats were sugested through example studies. From these, similar design charts can be developed for many pavements if appropriate data and target reliability are determined.

The anatomic course of recurrent laryngeal nerve, its branch and its function were most significant for laryngeal, thyroid and tracheoesophageal surgery. Furthermore, the vocal cord palsy resulting from multi-etiology was serious complication and resulted in affecting the life quality. So, for the prevention of this complication, the concepts and knowledge about anatomic course and variants are very important. At now, most of anatomic courses and it's function has been identified precisely. But recently, the report about the anastomotic loops of both recurrent laryngeal nerve was published. In this study, we explored three cadevors for identifying the reality of the anastomotic loops between recurrent laryngeal nerves. Finally, we identified the cervicomediastinal anastomosis at tracheoesophageal groove in 2 of 3 cadevors that was confirmed by pathologic finding. This anatomic reliefs related to it's branch are extremely interest, although research is still in its initial phase. Our study will be extended toward histomorphometrical study and progressive electrophysiologic study, and we will be able io gather the largest amount of useful data regarding any possible use of this anatomic entity in future.

TAPVC represents 1 to 4% of all congenital cardiac defects. Generally severe and refractory cardiac failure develops in the majority of patients in the early infancy. In a small minority of patient, they are relatively asymptomatic in infancy, but symptoms will develop of necessity In the later life. Our three cases had dyspnea on exertion and cyanosis and had a history of frequent respiratory infections. All 3 cases had the typical showman configuration on roentgenograms of the chest. Current surgical therapy has greatly altered the unfavorable course of these patients after institution of extra-corporeal circulation. We have experienced three cases from June, 1973 to May, 1983, the patients were undergone complete repair with extracorporeal circulation at the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in the Yonsei University. The ages ranged from 12 years to 14 years, all cases were supracardiac type of TAPVC. Only one case died due to bleeding from anastomosis site between LA and pulmonary venous trunk. In the remaining two patients with complete corrections of TAPVC, there was excellent relief of symptoms such as dyspnea and cyanosis. Their postoperative course have been good during follow-up.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a major infectious disease that threatens the life and health of people globally. Here, we performed a metabolomic analysis of serum samples from patients with intractable TB to identify biomarkers that might shorten the TB treatment period. Serum samples collected at the commencement of patients' treatment and healthy controls were analyzed using the capillary electrophoresis and time-of-flight mass spectrometry metabolome analysis method. The analysis identified the metabolites cystine, kynurenine, glyceric acid, and cystathionine, which might be useful markers for monitoring the TB treatment course. Furthermore, our research may provide experimental data to develop potential biomarkers in the TB treatment course.

Background: While the application of procedural methods to solve the infertility problem has increased, the decline in the quality of life of women who experience infertility has been disregarded. Methods: This qualitative study used phenomenological analysis of data collected from 13 women with infertility in South Korea to reveal the subjective meaning of physical experiences perceived by women over the course of treatment. Results: Upon analyses of the treatment experiences of women with infertility in South Korea via a phenomenological analysis method, 10 themes were extracted and integrated into four theme clusters ("Perceiving infertility," "The body that gives birth," "A process in an endless tunnel," "Caring for my marginalized identity"). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that women with infertility in South Korea perceived their own bodies as givers of birth living in traditional and patriarchal societies. A contextual flow proceeded to the final stage of women caring for their marginalized identity, which had suffered throughout the course of their infertility journey.

This study was investigated the perceived level of stress and the coping method which the adolescent were confronting. The subject of this investigation was high school students who resided in the City of Pusan. Life Event Scale and Coping Methods Scale were used as the methods for examination. The data were analyzed using M, SD, t-test one-way ANOVA scheffe-test and Pearson's correlation related with this study problem were tested. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The perceived level of teenager's stress was little low with M=1.65 When dividing sphere of perceived level the stress by school problem was the highest and the circumstance problem personal one family one and a companion one are followed in regular sequence. 2. It was found that degree of stress made a difference according to the sex course grade school year religion parents's presence or absence SES the satisfactory degree of school life the satisfactory degree of school life the satisfactory degree of home life and the rearing attitude of parents. 3. As the coping score of teenager's stress was M=2.54. The short-term coping method was higher compared with the long-term one regarding coping methods. 4. It was found that the coping method of stress differed from each other according to variables of sex school year the satisfactory degree of school life and the satisfactory degree of home life. 5. It was found that the perceived level of stress had negative correlation with the coping method and especially long-term coping method had higher negative correlation.

Bacillus subtilis 8 is highly efficient at degrading feather keratin. We observed integrated feather degradation over the course of 48 h in basic culture medium while studying the entire process with scanning electron microscopy. Large amounts of ammonia, sulfite, and $\text\tiny{L}$-cysteic acid were detected in the fermented liquid. In addition, four enzymes (gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase, peptidase T, serine protease, and cystathionine gamma-synthase) were identified that play an important role in this degradation pathway, all of which were verified with molecular cloning and prokaryotic expression. To the best of our knowledge, this report is the first to demonstrate that cystathionine gamma-synthase secreted by B. subtilis 8 is involved in the decomposition of feather keratin. This study provides new data characterizing the molecular mechanism of feather degradation by bacteria, as well as potential guidance for future industrial utilization of waste keratin.
