  • With the development of new technologies, virtual reality (VR) is emerging as a new consumer marketing platform. Yet, only a few studies have investigated VR in the consumption context. The current research explores how experiencing a product through VR influences consumer attitude and purchase intention for the product. Although assessing products in real life is believed to be more diagnostic than that through VR, the present research revealed that experiencing a product through VR could lead to a more positive attitude toward and higher purchase intention for the product. We also demonstrated that "enjoyment" has a mediating effect while evaluating the product through VR. To compare product experience through VR to that in real life, we employed the HTC Vive VR system to implement a VR environment. In the VR condition, participants evaluated plastic building blocks using a VR headset and a motion controller; and in the real life (reality) condition, they evaluted plastic building blocks printed using a 3D printer to make them look exactly the same as the blocks used in the VR condition. Finally, implications and suggestions are discussed.

  • The blood clam, Tegillarca granosa, is economically important in marine bivalve and is used in fisheries industry among western Pacific Ocean Coasts especially in Korea, China, and Japan. The number of chromosomes in the blood clam is known as 2n=38, but the genome size and genetic information of the genome are not still clear. In order to predict the genomic size of the T. granosa, the in-silico analysis analysed the genomic size using short DNA sequence information obtained using the NGS Illumina HiSeq platform. As a result, the genomic size of T. granosa was estimated to be 770.61 Mb. Subsequently, a draft genome assembly was performed through the MaSuRCA assembler, and a simple sequence repeat (SSR) analysis was done by using the QDD pipeline. 43,944 SSRs were detected from the genome of T. granosa and 69.51% di-nucleotide, 16.68% trinucleotide, 12.96% tetra-nucleotide, 0.82% penta-nucleotide, and 0.03% hexa-nucleotide were consisted. 100 primer sets that could be used for genetic diversity studies were selected. In the future, this study will help identify the genetic diversity of T. granosa and population genetic studies, and further identify the classification of origin between homogenous groups.

  • Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is a high-throughput technique for sequencing large numbers of DNA fragments that are prepared from a genome. This sequencing technique has been used to elucidate whole genome sequences of living organisms and to analyze complementary DNA (cDNA) or chromatin immunoprecipitated DNA (ChIPed DNA) at the genome level. After NGS, the use of proper tools is important for processing and analyzing data with reasonable parameters. However, handling large-scale sequencing data and programing for data analysis can be difficult. The Galaxy platform, a public web service system, provides many different tools for NGS data analysis, and it allows researchers to analyze their data on a web browser with no deep knowledge about bioinformatics and/or programing. In this study, we explain the procedure for preparing chromatin immunoprecipitation-sequencing (ChIP-seq) libraries and steps for analyzing ChIP-seq data using the Galaxy platform. The data analysis steps include the NGS data upload to Galaxy, quality check of the NGS data, premapping processes, read mapping, the post-mapping process, peak-calling and visualization by window view, heatmaps, average profile, and correlation analysis. Analysis of our histone H3K4me1 ChIP-seq data in K562 cells shows that it correlates with public data. Thus, NGS data analysis using the Galaxy platform can provide an easy approach to bioinformatics.

  • The determinant factors of an organism's size during animal development have been explored from various angles but remain partially understood. In Caenorhabditis elegans, many genes affecting cuticle structure, cell growth, and proliferation have been identified to regulate the worm's overall morphology, including body size. While various mutations in those genes directly result in changes in the morphological phenotypes, there is still a need for established, clear, and distinct standards to determine the apparent abnormality in a worm's size and shape. In this study, we measured the body length, body width, terminal bulb length, and head size of mutant worms with reported Dumpy (Dpy), Small (Sma) or Long (Lon) phenotypes by plotting and comparing their respective ratios of various parameters. These results show that the Sma phenotypes are proportionally smaller overall with mild stoutness, and Dpy phenotypes are significantly stouter and have disproportionally small head size. This study provides a standard platform for determining morphological phenotypes designating and annotating mutants that exhibit body shape variations, defining the morphological phenotype of previously unexamined mutants.

  • In Hanwoo cattle (Korean native cattle), there is a scarcity of comparative analysis papers using highdepth sequencing and haplotype phasing, particularly a comparative analysis of the Truseq Synthetic Long-Read Haplotyping sequencing platform serviced by Illumina (TSLRH) versus the Chromium Genome Sequencing platform serviced by 10X Genomics (10XG). DNA was extracted from the sperm of a Hanwoo breeding bull (ID: TN1505D2184/27214) provided by Hanwoo research canter and used for the generation of sequence data from both the sequencing platforms. We then identified SNVs using an appropriate analysis pipeline tailored for each platform. The TSLRH and 10XG platforms generated a total of 355,208,304 and 1,632,772,004 reads, respectively, corresponding to a Q30 (%) of 89.04% and 88.60%, respectively, of which 351,992,768(99.09%) and 1,526,641,824(93.50%) were successfully mapped. For the TSLRH and 10XG platforms, the mean depth of the sequencing was 13.04X and 74.3X, the longest phase block was 1,982,706 bp and 1,480,081 bp, the N50 phase block was 57,637 bp and 114,394 bp, the total number of SNVs identified was 4,534,989 and 8,496,813, and the total phased rate was 72.29% and 87.67%, respectively. Moreover, for each chromosome, we identified unique and common SNVs using both sequencing platforms. The number of SNVs was directly proportional to the length of the chromosome. Based on our results, we recommend the use of the 10XG platform for haplotype phasing and SNV identification, as it generated a longer N50 phase block, in addition to a higher mean depth, total number of reads, total number of SNVs, and phase rate, than the TSLRH platform.

  • The increasing number of analytes in concern and the alarming health and environmental consequences have required effective means of monitoring for safety control. Biosensors offer advantages as alternatives to conventional analytical methods because of their inherent specificity, simplicity, and quick response. Colorimetric biosensor, one of biosensor group, is one of the easiest and the most convenient methods because detection can be done using naked eye. Recently, a novel method for rapid detection and read-out of specific immunoassays with naked eye using polydiacetylene (PDA) was developed. Polydiacetylene has recently been in the limelight as a transducing materials because of its special features that allow optical transduction of sensory signals and inherent simplicity and ease of use in supramolecular chemistry. Various forms of PDA are used as a sensor platform for detection of various biological analytes such as viruses, DNA, proteins, bacteria and hazardous molecules.

  • The mobile elevated work platforms(MEWPs) consist of work platform, extending structure, and car, and it is a facility to move persons to working positions. MEWPs are useful but composed complex pieces of equipments, and accidents are caused by equipment defects. Among them, accidents caused by fracture of the bolts fixing the extension structure and the turntable are increasing. In this study, fatigue failure and fatigue life of a turntable fixing bolt subjected to irregular fatigue load were analyzed by FEA. For this purpose, finite element modeling is proposed and structural analysis and fatigue analysis are performed simultaneously for fixing bolts. As a result of the structural analysis, it was confirmed that there is no risk of permanent deformation because the maximum stress acting on the fixing bolt is lower than the yield strength, and fatigue analysis was confirmed that the fatigue life is less than the design standard. The fatigue analysis results of this study can be effectively used for the design and the documentary assessment of the safety certification of the MEWPs by examining the fatigue life of the turntable fixing bolt.
