  • In Korea, more than half of medical libraries are small.sized hospital libraries operated under the single.librarian system, and it is keenly required to establish collection management policies for exchanging resources with other libraries and maintaining consistency. however, it is rare to set up their collection management policies on the web among the domestic medical libraries. Thus, this study purposed to survey cases of collection management policies in domestic and foreign medical libraries and to provide basic information and ideas for Korean medical libraries that are preparing collection management policies. As long as core requirements are satisfied, collection management policies do not have a way. Thus, this case study is expected to provide useful ideas to medical libraries developing their collection management policies. For this purpose, we selected 12 survey items based on previous studies, and investigated one domestic and five foreign medical libraries, and analyzed collected data. Based on the results of analyzing the cases, we suggested 12 guidelines.

  • A digital library could be understood as not a part of information cycling, but whole process of information production, circulation and reproduction. This study suggests that a digital library should be a creator as which it is publishing, circulating, and re-producing the information resources. Therefore, the role of intrinsic DRM (Digital Resources Management) can be interpreted as a digital library. Open access model have been already adopted to many university libraries, many university libraries are publishing free access online research resources by themselves. Also, research collection based on cloud computing can be extended to networked research collection and share with other university libraries. These evidences show future library can be the digital library with online and open accessible publishing function.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the implications that GIS(Geographic Information Systems) can have in public library collection selection and service development from a marketing perspective. GIS is a computer system capable of assembling, storing, manipulating, and displaying geographically referenced information. Through the understanding and utilization of GIS, we can collect geographical, transportation, political, legal, demographic, economic, social, cultural, educational, and recreational information of the community. • The ideas of user oriented service wasn't a major issue in libraries in the past decade. However, from now on, our library visitors have choices in the book selection processes, and the library may not be the first choice for their information demands. Competitors such as museum, culture center, and even private reading academy are those who anticipate user demands and satisfy them before the librarians do. What may have been perceived as excellent service a few years ago is not acceptable today anymore in the library. This study reveals current situation of English library collection and their practice as a sound English learning tool for Korean students. The researcher introduces library Marketing Concept and Reading Programs as an effective management tool.
