  • In the current information environment, metadata interoperability has become the predominant way of organizing and managing resources. However, current approaches to metadata interoperability focus on the superficial mapping between labels of metadata elements without considering semantics of each element. This research applied facet analysis to address these difficulties in achieving metadata interoperability. By categorizing metadata elements according to these semantic and functional similarities, this research identified different types of facets: basic, conceptual, and relational. Through these different facets, a faceted framework was constructed to mediate semantic, syntactical, and structural differences across heterogeneous metadata standards.

  • The leisure demands and the interests for the quality of urban residents have been increased, but the leisure space is absolutely deficient. In the leisure site planning, the concrete understanding about people's leisure site choice is the most important thing, not only for the aspect of the leisure demands reception and the improvement of the life quality but also the aspect of the efficiency of land use. The purposes of this study are firstly, to find out prefered leisure sites, secondly, to establish the choice models of the each prefered leisure site to be substituted for existing indiscriminating leisure space planning. And for the choice model establishment, we used Logit Model, which has been used in the Traffic, the Toursim, the Economics fields. We extract people's perfered leisure sites in Seoul through 1st and 2nd survey, those are a park, a pocket park, a play hall, a recreation center(sport center), a hobby facility, a library. The established choice model for each prefered site can predict people's choice about 70 percents correctly. It indicates that the Logit model is useful for the explanation about the choice of residents in the urban area. Specially, the main affect factors to the choice of each prefered leisure site are different. It means that different consideration factors or different standards are needed for each leisure site planning.

  • This paper analyzes the source code of FIPS-OpenSSL cryptographic module approved as FIPS cryptographic module in USA and shows how the selftest requirements are implemented as software cryptographic library with respect to pre-operational test and conditional tests. Even though FIPS-OpenSSL follows FIPS 140-2 standard, lots of security requirements are similar between FIPS 140-2 and Korean cryptographic module validation standards. Therefore, analysis from this paper contributes to help Korean cryptographic module vendors develop correct and secure selftest functions on their own cryptographic modules, which results in reducing the test period.

  • The Biotope Area Ratio (BAR) is a quantitative pre-planning index for sustainable development and an integrated indicator for the balanced development of buildings and outdoor spaces. However, it has been pointed out that there are problems in operations management: errors in area calculation, insufficiency in the underground soil condition and depth, reduction in biotope area after construction, and functional failure as a pre-planning index. To address these problems, this study proposes implementing LIM. Since the weights of the BAR are mainly decided by the underground soil condition and depth with land cover types, the study focused on the terrain and pavements. The model should conform to BIM guidelines and standards provided by government agencies and professional organizations. Thus, the scope and Level Of Detail (LOD) of the model were defined, and the method to build a model with BIM software was developed. An apartment complex on sloping ground was selected as a case study, a 3D terrain modeled, paving libraries created with property information on the BAR, and a LIM model completed for the site. Then the BAR was calculated and construction documents were created with the BAR table and pavement details. As results of the study, it was found that the application of the criteria on the BAR and calculation became accurate, and the efficiency of design tasks was improved by LIM. It also enabled the performance of evidence-based design on the terrain and underground structures. To adopt LIM, it is necessary to create and distribute LIM library manuals or templates, and build library content that comply with KBIMS standards. The government policy must also have practitioners submit BIM models in the certification system. Since it is expected that the criteria on planting types in the BAR will be expanded, further research is needed to build and utilize the information model for planting materials.

  • The Internet is now an integral part of the everyday lives of a majority of people. They are demanding web sites that offer credible information - Just as much as they want sites that are easy to navigate. But the online reality today is that few Internet users say they can trust the web sites that have products for sale or the sites that offer advice about which products and services to buy. Users want the web sites they visit to provide clear information to allow them to judge the site's credibility. Users want to know who runs the site; how to reach those people; the site's privacy policy; and how the site deals with mistakes. In the eyes of users all sites ate not equal. Users have different credibility standards for different types of sites. For news and information sites users want advertising clearly labeled as advertising. And users want the site to provide a list of the editors responsible for the site's contents, including the editor's email address. For e-commerce sites, user expectations and demands are just about as high as they can be. They say that it is very important that these sites provide specific, accurate information about the site's policies and practices.

  • This research attempts to verify the hypothesis that the workers in the small-and medium-sized industries use more informal information channels than formal ones do to get the information necessary to industrial activities. Information sources are divided by the internal and the external ones and these are sub-divided by their acquiring channels, publishers and holding institutions. It is intended to investigate the information sources according to the use frequency, age, origin and format of documents used. The degree of benefit to the workers in their practical work through the use of information sources and the use frequency of information sources by the department and years of experience are also investigated. The data to test the hypothesis was collected through the questionnaires distributed to the workers in 300 sampled firms from June 5 to June 20, The following facts have been verified as the result : 1. Workers in industries acquire information mainly through the contacts with the colleagues or superiors in their departments, and the junior workers depend more on the colleague and superiors than senior workers are. 2. Among the documents published internally, the ones from the research and development departments are mostly used. The documents issued by the worker's own departments are also frequently used and the senior workers, the more frequently use the internal publications than the junior workers do. 3. Among the internal documents stored in various places in the industries, the documents kept in the worker's own departments are used most frequently. The senior workers the more use privately owned documents than the junior workers do. 4. As far as the external channels are concerned, information is obtained mainly through suppliers of equipment and raw materials and the use frequency of information channels varies according to department. The senior workers the more receive information through supporting institution, seminar and exhibition than the junior workers do. 5. Among the external publication, the ones published by the industrial supporting institutions are heavily used and the workers in research and developments frequently use the external publications. 6. The documents held in governmental industrial institutions and industrial supporting institutions are heavily used compared with the ones stored in other external institutions. The holding places of frequently used documents vary according to the working departments. 7. The degree of benefit to practical work performance resulted from the internal information use is less than by the use of external information. 8. The documents published more than five years ago are more used than the ones of less than five years, Korean and Japanese documents are used frequently and catalogues, patents and standards are used to a great extent. The documents are used differently in accordance with work departments.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how the changes of evaluation standards have affected Korean medical researchers' academic performance by comparing the publication status of medical articles both domestically and abroad. A total of 314,559 domestic articles in KMbase and 53,423 articles stored in MEDLINE published abroad by Korean researchers were analyzed. All of the data were compared per year according to the research field and indexed journals by numbers and proportions of articles published domestically and abroad. The analysis showed that the number of total articles and the proportion of articles published abroad increased continuously. In the early 2000s, articles published in Korea decreased, otherwise articles published abroad increased sharply. SCI articles showed a steady increase before 2000, and continued to increase over the next few years. KCI articles also showed a rapid increase in the early 2000s while other articles were decreasing. Publication trends shown in this study were similar despite quantitative and timely differences by research area. Performance evaluations focusing on SCI articles affected on quantitative decrease in the number of total articles published domestically. Quantitative growth itself is not an absolute indicator for academic achievement. Therefore, to complement any evaluation of academic achievement, qualitative analysis needs to be done as well.

  • The main goal of construction projects from the past has been enhancing efficiency by reducing cost and time. Compared to this, it is true that for a long time not much attention was paid to safety management. For this reason, safety management is much behind cost and time management but nevertheless, not much improvement has been made. The current safety management is only focused on managing after an occurrence based on knowledge like safety standards and rules. Even though safety accident is reducing in domestic construction projects, the extent of a accident is getting greater because construction projects are getting more complex and sophisticated. Moreover, the actual loss due to accident is increasing and the severeness of a hazard is getting worse. Therefore, to improve the current conditions of safety management, we propose a more effective safety management program. This program is a safety managing method using virtual reality. Property, entity, safety library is applied and finally, aims to continuously manage and prevent rather than deal with an accident/disaster after it happens.

  • GPM(Generic Product Model) developed by Hitachi in Japan is a common data model to integrate and share life cycle data of nuclear power plants. GPM consists of GPM core model, an abstract model, implementation language for the model and reference library written in the language. GPM core model has a feature that it can construct a semantic network model consisting of relationships among objects. Initial GPM developed and provided GPML as an implementation language to support the feature of the core model, but afterwards the GPML was replaced by GPM-XML based on XML to achieve data interoperability with heterogeneous applications accessing a GPM data model. However, data models written in GPM-XML are insufficient to be used as a semantic network model for lack of studies which support GPM-XML and enable the models to be used as a semantic network model. This paper proposes OWL as the implementation language for GPM core model because OWL can describe ontologies similar to semantic network models and has an abundant supply of technical standards and supporting tools. Also, OWL which can be expressed in terms of RDF/XML based on XML guarantees data interoperability. This paper uses OWL DL, one of three sublanguages of OWL, because it can guarantee complete reasoning and the maximum expressiveness at the same time. The contents of this paper introduce the way how to overcome the difference between GPM and OWL DL, and, base on this way, describe how to convert the reference library written in GPML into ontologies based on OWL DL written in RDF/XML.
