  • In the knowledge economy era, the library must guide the further distribution and an extension of knowledge and information. It implies the fact that the optimal management of library is important and becomes the precondition. And there is a necessity which tries to observe its vertical and horizontal spectrum. This research analyzed the complexity of library management environments, diversification of management paradigms and techniques and its recently trends based on the theories of new public management and administrative reforms of the advanced nations.

  • In this study it is to suggest a support plan between public libraries and school libraries for elementary school reading paradigm shift Reviewing existing study contents, this is to examine elementary school reading education theoretically, and to present paradigm shift through analysis on elementary school children's reading status. By means of analysis on status of elementary school library and it's cooperation in Nowon-Ku, it is to suggest school library support project of the Nowon Children's Library as the model of support plan between public library and school library.

  • This study attempts to show the reasons why the academic field, which has been called 'Library and Information Science', should change its paradigm for both research and practice. To this end, this study investigates the essence of the current academic crisis, which is seriously threatening the survival of the LIS as an independent academic field in South Korea. In details, this study discusses the identity problem of the LIS, the poverty in scholarship, the low self-esteem of the profession, etc. Also investigated are the reasons why the profession, which includes both scholars and practitioners, is facing with such a crisis. This study emphasizes that both researchers and practitioners in the LIS field should keep their eyes on the ongojng information revolution, and that in order to thrive as well as to survive from the midst of such an academic crisis they should notice and understand the essence of the revolution. The conclusion of this study includes the philosophies and strategies for survival, which the profession should keep in mind and follow in a hurry.

  • This paper attempts to answer to the question of whether the information professional holds assertive culture enough to accomodate knowledge management paradigm in its current identity and future role. Observations of the current culture made by inside and outside the discipline of library and information science are first reviewed. Results from interviews with practicing academic librarians follow. Suggestions for further studies are provided in the conclusion.

  • Humanities academia and scientific community have been fused together in 21st centurty and it creates new theories and models. Among them, the embodied cognition theory has received attention in several related fields. This study reviews the major metatheories in information user behavior with their limitations. Then, "Life paradigm information behavior model" is suggested as a new theory, which communsurates with new era's request, introducing the embodied cognition theory and the entropy concept. By overcoming the limitations of individual approach to the information retrieval and user behaviors, we expect the discourse of the new integrated information retrieval paradigm.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the way of development of school library and construction of information system for school library. In order to identify the way, the school librarian recognition level of school library information system was analyzed, since the recognition level about the information system can affect the school library development. Data is collected through the questionnaire. The result can be used to develope a school library instruction program for teachers and a base material for recovering the school library fundamental function.

Librarian's Role and Diversification of Librarian's Works for Creating Blue Ocean Strategy of Special Libraries (전문도서관의 블루오션 창출을 위한 사서의 역할 및 업무영역 다변화)

  • The roles of librarians have been changing with the paradigm shift of libraries. The paradigm of libraries has shifted from a traditional information management-centered way to a hybrid approach emphasizing a balance between collection and access. This study analyzed the internal and external changes of libraries to create Blue Ocean of special libraries by using the SWOT analysis. and adopted ERCR analysis for the reasonable management of libraries. The findings of this study indicate that the scope of role played by librarians belonging to special libraries shall be diversified from their traditional library activities in order to adapt themselves to changes in time. The Blue Ocean Strategy can be successfully developed only if the activities of libraries have been changed so that they are closely related to those activities for which such affiliate organizations are expected to carry out.
