The recent advance of information and communication technologies has made the identity of public libraries ambiguous. Few literatures have dealt with a local community public library from knowledge creation perspective. In this article we extend the applicability of the concepts such as knowledge management and knowledge city to local public libraries whose major role needs to change from the traditional book rental to knowledge and social capital creating entity. Based on the concepts, we propose a framework for analyzing the public library as a center of knowledge creation. Using the framework, we analyze the Ridgewood Public Library in New Jersey to test the validity of the framework.

In this study, 15 teacher librarians working in the high school library were interviewed in order to understand the factors and situation of teacher librarian's job burnout. The results showed that job environment, teacher librarian's role and identity, school community members' lack of awareness of school library and teacher librarians were found to be influential factors in job burnout. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to develop proper compensation system, to divide librarians and teacher librarians into clear jobs, to provide opportunities for the other teachers to extend their understanding of teacher librarians, and to provide opportunities for self development and recharging.

This study focuses on how public libraries in East Germany adjusted themselves into new environments after the unification during 15 years(1990~2005). First, system and operation of East Germany's public libraries are studied and public libraries in West and East Germany are compared before the unification. After public libraries in East Germany became unified with West Germany, the structure of East Germany's public libraries changed, many of public libraries and labor libraries were closed and collection in those libraries was discarded or replaced. Thus, it is studied how libraries enhanced their capabilities and discovered their roles or identities in changing situations in this research.

The National Library of Korea, Sejong plays a central role in maximizing the development and provision of policy information services in Korea. In order to perform its functions, systematic and practical strategies for policy information development are essential. Besides, in order to establish the identity of the National Library of Korea, Sejong as a specialized library of policy information services and to maximize the capacity, the development strategies for policy information needs to be suggested. This study, in this regard, propose strategies for the development of policy information collection. Specifically, we suggest that both guidelines of collection development policy for general collection, and practical guidelines of collection development specific to policy information.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the logical and legal basis for the development of new branch libraries of the National Library of Korea(NLK) and then to propose the strategic direction of planning the branch(es) as an appropriate model for the future delivery of NLK services. In this research, it is emphasized that the branch(es) of the NLK should not be perceived as "another large public library, " but rather be planned to help consolidate and expand the basic roles of the NLK and reinforce its identity as a national library. In addition, it is recommended that the branch(es) should be located outside the Seoul Metropolitan area to facilitate the services to the larger public, and some programs and activities for the underprivileged and the multi-cultural families in our society as well.

With the popularization of smart-phone, a variety of application service user is a rising trend now. In contrast, studies concerning library application service that cast a long shadow over the life of students and citizens still lacking in many ways. This study evaluates user experience of Young-in Si public library application service, and investigates user requirements. I searched the real user reviews about Young-in Si library application both App store and Android market. As the final outcome, I found inconveniences and improvements of this service. The application is intuitive, but requires consistent design, strong identity and customizing main page. It will be suggested specific guidelines for the public library mobile services in other areas.

The main objective of this study is to explore the forward-looking role of a National Hangeul Museum Library that can actively respond to changes in the era and to propose development strategies for this purpose. To achieve this, the current functions, resources, materials, online and offline services, and the library's website were thoroughly analyzed. We conducted research on the operational status and best practices of libraries within museums, art galleries, and advanced libraries both domestically and internationally. Ultimately, we aimed to establish medium to long-term development strategies for the Korean library and derive step-by-step detailed implementation plans. The results of this study can serve as foundational data to help the National Hangeul Museum Library effectively fulfill its central role as a library related to the Korean language and culture.

A novel esterase gene (est7S) was cloned from an enriched metagenomic library derived from an oil-spill area. The gene encoded a protein of 505 amino acids, and the molecular mass of the Est7S was estimated to be 54,512 Da with no signal peptide. Est7S showed the highest identity of 40% to an esterase from a sludge metagenome compared to the characterized enzymes with their properties, although it showed 99% identity to a carboxylesterase in the genome sequence of Alcanivorax borkumensis SK2. Est7S had catalytic triad residues, Ser183, Glu312, and His420, and the GESAG motif in most family VII lipolytic enzymes. Est7S was purified from the crude extract of clone SM7 using Sephacryl S-200 HR and HiTrap Q column chromatographies. The purified Est7S was optimally active at $50^{\circ}C$ and pH 10.0. Est7S showed a high specific activity of 366.7 U/mg protein. It preferred short length esters, particularly p-nitrophenyl acetate, efficiently hydrolyzed R- and S-enantiomers of methyl-3-hydroxy-2-methylpropionate, and glyceryl tributyrate. These properties of Est7S may provide potential merits in biotechnological applications such as detergent and paper processing under alkaline conditions.

Information technology. computers, networks, and the World Wide Web are ubiquitous. Academic libraries have applied information technology over the last ten years. This paper examines the ways in which information technology have chanced the academic library over the last decades and deals with the logical interrelation of 'information technology' and 'management' in the context of academic libraries in Korea. The study analyzes mission statements of Library and Information Science schools in the United States. It aims to reveal identities of LIS by Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The study examines the strategies or stereotypes of academic mission statements in LIS as a genre. Mission statements are analyzed using discourse analysis to find common ideology using agency, modality, and lexical analysis. A comparative analysis of two mission statements is also conducted within discursive practices to reveal characteristics of two schools. This study has value in that it provides implications for other ideological discussions applicable to LIS.
