The Library of Congress' proposal to license LC MARC database and the following debate over the proposal shows that the issue on ownership of bibliographic databases, which surfaced as a topic of concern in the international library community with the OCLC's a n.0, pplication for copyright of its databases in 1982, is not fading or dead into the 1990s. In particular, the way that technological developments are outpacing the ability of the relevant organizations and legal systems to make necessary adjustments is giving the library profession a warning that cooperative efforts for further development of the international library systems, such as the UBC program, might be seriously impeded without a swift and amicable agreement on the controversial 'database ownership' issue. Here, the purpose of this paper lies in discussing the 'database ownership' issue from a macro and long-term perspective, with emphasis on its potential impacts on, and implications for, international information flows. To the end, the specific questions covered in this paper include : 1) what are the major causes of the database ownership controversy? 2) what are the potential impacts of the database ownership issue on the library profession's cooperative efforts toward free bibliographic information flows at the international level? And finally, 3) what are the implications of the database ownership issue for the Korean Library Community, which is making efforts toward the establishment of a national library network in near future through linking various library automation systems.

Information scientists need not to answer whether future libraries will be a digital library or not, but to answer how they are structured and served effectively to users currently. 'The library with walls' or 'the library as place' need to be existed in the future, but 'digital library without the wall' or 'virtual library' will need to be studied continuously. This study has tried to reveal the existing problems of digital libraries and their future environment after considering the ambiguous concepts of various types of electronic libraries and their efforts for library automation, and the changed information retrieval circumstances during the last 30 to 40 years through a qualitative document study. As a result, the major findings and suggestions are prepared. The library of the future will be a part of local and national cooperative systems, be filled with the intelligent use of old and new technologies, and be able to su n.0, pport both a place with extensive collections and convenient, easy, & free access to remote intellectual resources. Also, the information storage and retrieval (ISAR) to the future library system would easily provide users with any types of data retrieval system by anybody rather than by an expert or a specialist, so called 'A&E retrieval' in the coming 21th century. It will be highly possible that the future society changes to the information marketplace whose data may be recognized as an intangible assets.

From the 1957's of the cradle which curricula of library science was applicable to university to the 1978's today of heyday, it has been rapidly developing in the 20 years (1957-1978) and they have 5 junior colleges, 9 undergraduate courses, 5 graduate courses, 1 Ph. D. course. The education of library science above the undergraduate course was given greatly prominence to the theory of library science, information science and foreign languages more than that of the putting first in the practical business and built up the educational system of library science. Today is the informatization period from the 1960's. The fact which the automation of library works was attached in the latter half of the 1970's in Korea is the social need in order to respond to the worldwide tendency. As a result of making an analysis of curricula from junior colleges to graduate schools in this paper, I took the new direction which it is an alternative plan of the point at issue, and I want to be useful in the education of library science forwards.

We present a methodology that automatically selects indexing algorithms for each heading in Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), National Library of Medicine's vocabulary for indexing MEDLINE. While manually comparing indexing methods is manageable with a limited number of MeSH headings, a large number of them make automation of this selection desirable. Results show that this process can be automated, based on previously indexed MEDLINE citations. We find that AdaBoostM1 is better suited to index a group of MeSH hedings named Check Tags, and helps improve the micro F-measure from 0.5385 to 0.7157, and the macro F-measure from 0.4123 to 0.5387 (both p < 0.01).

본 연구에서는 최근 도서관에 제안되고 있는 RFID에 대한 기술적 개요를 통해 그 유용성을 살펴보고, 적용사례를 기초로 도서관에서의 RFID 기술 적용 방안을 제시하였다. 구체적으로 그동안 바코드나 자기 테이프 등에 의존해 오던 자료의 대출 반납, 장서점검, 잘못 배가된 자료의 식별, 도난방지 등의 업무를 자동화하는 것과, 시설과 설비의 이용에 RFID 기술을 적용하는 방안을 제안하였다.

본 연구의 목적은 대학도서관 사서들이 업무과정에서 생기는 다양한 문제들을 '사서커뮤니티'를 통하여 질의하고 다른 도서관 사서들로부터 해답을 얻고 있는 현상을 분석하는 것이다. '사서커뮤니티'에서 구분하고 있는 업무방식인 수서업무, 정리업무, 참고봉사업무, 전산업무, 상호대차업무 등 각 부문에서 어떤 사항들에 많은 사서들이 관심을 가지거나 해결하려고 하는지를 알아본다. 현장 사서들이 지적하는 과제들은 제도에 의하여 해결되어야 할 것인지 아니면 개별 도서관에서 풀어야 될 것인지도 알아본다.

본 연구는 서울시 소재의 S 어린이도서관여 제공하는 다양한 서비스가 지역사회 및 지역주민에게 미치는 사회, 문화, 경제적 영향력에 대해서 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 도서관리시스템을 활용한 이용 통계 분석을 하였고, 타도서관 대비 효율성 비교 분석, 그리고 설문지를 통한 이용자 평가에 대한 분석을 시도하였다. 본 연구조사의 결과로 얻어낸 구체적인 수치를 통해 S 어린이도서관의 서비스 수준을 확인하였고, 지역사회에서의 어린이도서관의 역할과 존재적 의미를 파악하였으며, 이용자들의 인식을 통한 S어린이도서관의 지역사회에서의 경제적 기여도에 대한 측정을 함으로써 S어린이도서관의 가치를 구체화하고자 하였다.

This study is a first part of the surrey on the bibliographic and subject information activities of Korean libraries. The 35 University libraries which held over 10,000 volumes of their collections and located in Seoul City area, are surveyed through the questionnaires. The 92 kinds of published bibliographies and catalogs are analysed. Subject-bibliographic activities of the university libraries are analysed by the answers of 9 items of the questionnaire. The librarians' opinions on the automation of bibliographic activities are also analysed.

본 논문은 JSP (Java Server Page) 웹 서버 기반 인터넷 웹 브라우저 용 회로부품정보 관리 시스템을 구축하였다. 설계자가 부품정보의 검색 및 신규 등록을 수행할 수 있도록 하였으며, 이를 EDA (Electronic Design Automation) 시스템과 직접 연동하여 회로 및 부품의 설계를 실 시간적으로 적용하도록 하는 웹 연동 회로부품 관리 시스템을 구현하였다. 그리하여 개별 설계자들이 작성 관리하던 EDA 시스템 부품 라이브러리를 웹 기반으로 관리 사용할 수 있도록 하여 회로설계 및 부품 개발에 효율성을 이루었다.

본 논문은 고문헌에 적합한 최선의 정보시스템을 구축하기 위해, 고문헌의 개념, 특성과 정리현황, 전산화의 범위와 제도적인 장치, 정보시스템의 구축, 시스템의 사례, 평가와 전망 등을 중심으로 고찰하였다. 고문헌시스템의 구축에 있어서는 국립중앙도서관을 중심으로 하여 정보전산망을 형성하고, 그에 따라 목록정보, 해제, 원은, 검색정보시스템의 통합시스템을 구축하는 방향으로 전개하였다. 사례분석에서는 현재 디지털시스템으로 구축하고 있는 국립중앙도서관고문헌시스템과 자체적으로 DB를 개발하여 공용정보로 활용하고 있는 성균관대학교 고문헌정보시스템을 비교 평가하였으며. 고문헌시스템을 구축하려는 도서관에는 전체적인 지침을 제시하였다.
