This study proposes learner participatory activities for learner-centered college liberal arts classes. In addition, it analyzes learners' perceptions of and satisfaction with learner-centered classes and identifies the issues that must be considered when planning learner-centered activities for college liberal arts classes. The study used a learner-centered participatory activity in which participants created a 4-cut cartoon addressing a specific theme. An open-ended questionnaire was administered to identify learners' attitudes about and satisfaction with the learner-centered classes. It showed that most learners (87.5%) were highly satisfied with the 4-cut cartoon creation activities in the learner-centered participatory class. Learners identified the burden- free nature of the class activities, the fact that they improved their understanding of class content, and that they were fun (not boring) as the main reasons they found the class activities satisfying. In liberal arts English classes, more diverse participatory class activities should be developed to arouse interest and motivation of learners and encourage learners' participation.
With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the liberal arts education of universities has been called for fundamental innovation in its content and methods. H university has continuously made efforts to improve its general education curriculum with the goal of satisfying students' needs as well as the demands of the times. Its efforts can be summarized as the harmonization of competency-based education and the traditional liberal arts education. In more detail, it has tried to meet the demands of Ministry of Education which requests each university to establish its general education system focusing on key competencies. Simultaneously, it also radically changed its education system based on the guidelines of the Korea National Institute for General Education(KONIGE). The starting point of those changes was the basic consulting by KONIGE in 2017. According to the consulting report, H university introduced comprehensive and overall revision of its liberal arts education curriculum, increasing its liberal arts credit requirements from 22 to 28 credits in 2019. It has also reorganized and reclassified its liberal arts courses by introducing distributive elective classes. In 2020, in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Education, H university altered its curriculum once more in order to establish a competency-based general education curriculum. Under the new curriculum, all requirement subjects are completely matched with key competencies of H university. It also includes newly opened courses and subject areas such as "Social Service" and "Global Citizenship." Through these changes, H university hopes that its general education contributes to fostering students equipped with key competencies, who can face actively this challenging period.

The purpose of this study is to identify the value of the liberal arts physical education class that contribute to the future wellness life. For this study, the records of the participants in the study were analyzed in nine participants who participated in the liberal arts physical education class of Seoul * University in 2019 during the first semester. The results of this study are as follows. First, students' interest in health increased through the liberal arts physical education class, and students set their life expectancy and confirmed diseases that are obstacles to living happily. And they became aware of the importance of health. Second, students' interest in health increased and they performed behaviors for health. Students reflected on their current life, reflected on bad lifestyles, and confirmed the importance of regular exercise and desirable eating for health. Third, students experienced positive changes in life by performing life movement and healthy life. Students performed regular exercises for health, improved eating habits, and practiced healthy lifestyles. By practicing these actions, these students laid the foundation for future wellness life. In the end, students have laid the foundation for healthy and happy life through the liberal arts physical education class. The aim of this study is to establish an object of environmental education in liberal arts, and to develop a teaming program and search for the most effective environmental teaching method. At first this study analyzed the current situations and problems of the present environmental education in the liberal arts. As a result of this analysis, I found that, most of environmental educations have been conducted mainly by an approach of natural science, inevitably they should have limits in which students can't have holistic view in solve the environmental problem. Due to the fact that, many students were attending lectures, teaching methods were limited in the forms lecture and video tapes. As I applied educational programs with various teaching methods for students in order to change cognition and value toward environment, I found that there was no significant difference of cognition even after applying the programs. This may be interpreted as, most students already had very sound and sustainable environmental view. But some programs with teaching method using role play, debate, cyber-debate lead students to have interest in environments, thus actively participating in the class. These methods, taking into consideration, the hundreds of enrolled students, seem to pose a problem in actual application. The most important matter is, how to develop a cognition and value toward environment into environmental behavior. Therefore, in the future, aim is to study what determines the factors for causing environmental behavior from a cognition and value of the environment, and a development of programs in this regard will be necessary.

For engineers in the knowledge-based society of the 21st century, not only the specialty in their major field, but also the capabilities of creative thinking/reading/writing, of communication and of understanding society/business/economy, and the knowledge of specialized liberal arts, like ethics, are required. For the specialized liberal arts knowledge, it is important to have interest in a field, read the relevant literature, and summarize and express thoughts, but in reality, it is difficult to accomplish a higher level of learning outcome within the limited regular curriculum. In this study, an application for smart phones that purports to cultivate the specialized liberal arts knowledge of the students enrolled in the college of engineering was developed and applied to classes. Under this environment, a teacher can interact with teacher's students through the structured knowledge on a real-time basis in any place at any time, and the students can reorganize the knowledge by themselves. In this way, this paper proposed a way of improving the level of specialized liberal arts knowledge in daily life.
In this paper, we use the convexity of distance function between geodesics in a singular Hadamard space to generalize Hadamard-Cartan theorem for 2-dimensional metric spaces. We also determine a neighborhood of a closed geodesic where no other closed geodesic exists in a complete space of nonpositive curvature.

This study aims to provide a science history content system necessary in the course design process of liberal arts subjects, along with the application of flip learning in liberal arts science classes for humanities and social sciences students. For the research, we analyzed the current state of the liberal arts and history of science classes at universities. Then we developed the 'Understanding the History of Science' subject by applying the flip learning method through the analysis of various previous studies. As the goal of science history lectures that can reach the essential purposes of science liberal arts education, including knowledge acquisition and strengthening various competencies, scientific attitude cultivation was set, and the content system of week 15 was designed to consider this. The four topics corresponding to the "History of Science" part of the "Understanding Science History" content system consisted of flipped learning classes and teaching and learning activities, including online video materials and group discussion activities. As a result of opening courses for students in the humanities and social sciences and operating classes for 56 college students, it was confirmed that students' interest and awareness of science increased. This study provides educational evidence for science history and liberal arts education.
