Synthesis and Photo Catalytic Activity of 10 wt%, 20 wt%Li-TiO2 Composite Powders (10 wt%, 20 wt%Li-TiO2 복합분말의 합성과 광촉매 활성평가)

  • 10 wt.% and 20 wt.%$Li-TiO_2$ composite powders are synthesized by a sol-gel method using titanium isopropoxide and $Li_2CO_3$ as precursors. The as-received amorphous 10 wt.%$Li-TiO_2$ composite powders crystallize into the anatase-type crystal structure upon calcination at $450^{\circ}C$, which then changes to the rutile phase at $750^{\circ}C$. The asreceived 20 wt%$Li-TiO_2$ composite powders, on the other hand, crystallize into the anatase-type structure. As the calcination temperature increases, the anatase $TiO_2$ phase gets transformed to the $LiTiO_2$ phase. The peaks for the samples obtained after calcination at $900^{\circ}C$ mainly exhibit the $LiTiO_2$ and $Li_2TiO_3$ phases. For a comparison of the photocatalytic activity, 10 wt.% and 20 wt.% $Li-TiO_2$ composite powders calcined at $450^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$, and $750^{\circ}C$ are used. The 20 wt.%$Li-TiO_2$ composite powders calcined at $600^{\circ}C$ show excellent efficiency for the removal of methylorange.

Synthesis and Electrochemical Characteristics of Spherical Li4Ti5O12/CNT Composite Materials for Hybrid Capacitors

  • Spherical Li4Ti5O12 and Li4Ti5O12 carbon nanotube (CNT) composites were synthesized using a colloid system. The electrochemical properties of the composites were thoroughly examined to determine their applicability as hybrid capacitor anodes. The electrical conductivity of the spherical Li4Ti5O12-CNT composite was improved over that of the spherical Li4Ti5O12 composite. The synthesized composites were utilized as the anode of a hybrid capacitor, which was assembled with an activated carbon (AC) positive electrode. The CNTs attached on the spherical Li4Ti5O12 particles contributed to a 51% reduction of the equivalent series of resistance of the Li4Ti5O12-CNTs/AC hybrid capacitor compared to the Li4Ti5O12/AC hybrid capacitor. Moreover, the Li4Ti5O12-CNTs/AC hybrid capacitor showed a larger capacitance than the Li4Ti5O12/AC hybrid capacitor; specifically, the Li4Ti5O12-CNT/AC hybrid capacitor showed 1.6 times greater capacitance at 40 cycles with a 10 mA cm−2 loading current density.

Electrolytic Reduction Characteristics of Titanium Oxides in a LiCl-Li2O Molten Salt (LiCl-Li2O 용융염에서 타이타늄 산화물의 전해환원 특성)

  • Experiments using a metal oxide of a non-nuclear material as a fuel are very useful to develop a new electrolytic reducer for pyroprocessing. In this study, the titanium oxides (TiO and $TiO_2$) were selected and investigated as the non-nuclear fuel for the electrolytic reduction. The immersion tests of TiO and $TiO_2$ in a molten 1.0 wt.% $Li_2O$-LiCl salt revealed that they have solubility of 156 and 2100 ppm, respectively. Then, the Ti metals were successfully produced after the separate electrolytic reduction of TiO and $TiO_2$ in a molten 1.0 wt.% $Li_2O$-LiCl salt. However, Ti was detected on the platinum anode used for the electrolytic reduction of $TiO_2$ unlike TiO due to the dissolution of $TiO_2$ into the salt.

The Electric Properties of Surface Coating with CePO4 and M3(PO4)2 (M=Mg, Zn) on Li4Ti5O12 for Energy Storage Capacitor

  • The $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ of anode material for the hybrid capacitor was coated using $CePO_4$, $M_3(PO_4)_2$ (M=Mg, Zn). The capacitance of phosphate coated $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ was found to be lower than that of $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$, whereas the equivalent series resistance was higher than that of $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$. With an increase in cycle number, the base of cylindrical cell exhibited swelling due to gas generated from the reaction between $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ and electrolyte. The swelling cycle number of phosphate coated $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ was higher than that of $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ due to improvement in electrochemical stability. Based on the results, it is proposed that phosphate coating can be employed as a barrier layer to control the gassing reaction by isolating the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ particle from electrolyte solution.

Optical Characterizations of $LiNbO_{3}$ Single Crystals Doped with $MgO/TiO_{2}$

  • The applicability of $LiNbO_{3}$ as a substrate for fabrication of Ti-indiffused waveguide electro-optic devices is limited. Ti diffuses comparatively in congruently melting $LiNbO_{3}$; the Curie temperature of this material is too low to permit diffusion temperatures much above $1100^{\circ}C$ without the necessity of re-poling the crystal. Both of hese difficulties could be eliminated by incorporating certain dopants in $LiNbO_{3}$. Crystals of $LiNbO_{3}$ doped with Ti and Mg were grown and evaluated. The electroptic coefficients and birefringence of $LiNbO_{3}$ doped crystals were measured at ${\lambda}=.6328$ and $1.32\;$\mu{m}$. Curie temperatures were measured. The Curie temperature of both undoped and Ti-doped $LiNbO_{3}$ was $1130^{\circ}C$; that for Mg-doped $LiNbO_{3}$ was $30^{\circ}$ higher. From these data, a composition for the crystals was estimated. Thermogravimetric data confirmed this estimate and showed that the composition of Mg : $LiNbO_{3}$ was $49.3{\pm}0.2mole%\;Li_{2}O$ ; the composition of the undoped and Ti : $LiNbO_{3}$ samples was $48.6{\pm}0.2mole%$. Diffusion of Ti into both Mg-doped and Ti-doped $LiNbO_{3}$ crystals was studied as a function of $Li/NbO_{3}$ ratio and temperature.

Effect of Li Addition on the Microwave Dielectric Properties of $MgTiO_{3}-CaTiO_{3}$ Ceramic Dielectrics (Li을 첨가한 $MgTiO_{3}-CaTiO_{3}$계 세라믹 유전체의 마이크로파 유전특성)

  • 마이크로파용 세라믹 유전체로 사용되는 MgTiO$_3$-CaTiO$_3$계 유전체에 Li을 첨가하여 이때 얻어지는 마이크로파 유전특성과 소결특성에 대하여 알아보았다. 94MgTiO$_3$-6CaTiO$_3$으로 주조성을 고정시키고 여기에 Li$_2$CO$_3$를 Li원자 기준으로 0 ~ 10 mol% 범위 안에서 첨가하여 1200~140$0^{\circ}C$의 온도에서 4시간 소결하였다. Li의 첨가량이 적을 때에는 유전체의 품질계수와 유전상수가 모두 감소하였으나 약 lmol% 이상 되면 다시 증가하였으며, 이후 첨가량이 과도해지면 다시 서서히 감소하는 경향을 볼 수 있었다. 1.0 ~ 3.0 mol%의 첨가량 범위 안에서 Li은 MgTiO$_3$-CaTiO$_3$계 유전체의 품질계수를 증가시켜주는 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다 1.5mol%의 Li을 첨가하고 1275$^{\circ}C$에서 4시간 소결한 시편에서 유전상수는($\varepsilon$$_{r}$) 20.0, Qf는 78,000 그리고 공진주파수 온도계수($\tau$$_{f}$)는 -1.6ppm/$^{\circ}C$의 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.다.

  • The MCMB-$Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ with core-shell structure was prepared by sol-gel process to improve low cycle capability of MCMB in this study. The electrochemical characteristics were investigated for hybrid capacitor using MCMB-$Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ as the negative electrode and $LiMn_2O_4$, Active carbon fiber as the positive electrode. The electrochemical behaviors of hybrid capacitor using organic electrolytes ($LiPF_6$, EC/DMC/EMC) were characterized by charge/discharge, cyclic voltammetry, cycle and impedance tests. The hybrid capacitor using MCMB-$Li_4Ti_5O_{12}/LiMn_2O_4$ electrodes had better capacitance than MCMB hybrid systems and was able to deliver a specific energy with 67 Wh/kg at a specific power of 781 W/kg.

  • Electronic structures and chemical bonding of Li-intercalated $LiTiS_2$ and $LiTiO_2$ were investigated by using discrete variational $X{\alpha}$ method as a first-principles molecular-orbital method. ${\alpha}-NaFeO_2$ structure is the equilibrium structure for $LiCoO_2$, which is widely used as a commercial cathode material for lithium secondary battery. The study especially focused on the charge state of Li ions and the magnitude of covalency around Li ions. The average voltage of lithium intercalation was calculated using pseudopotential method and the average intercalation voltage of $LiTiO_2$ was higher than that of $LiTiS_2$. It can be explained by the differences in Mulliken charge of lithium and the bond overlap population between the intercalated Li ions and anions in $LiTiO_2$ as well as $LiTiS_2$. The Mulliken charge, which means the ionicity of Li atom, was approximately 0.12 in $LiTiS_2$ and the bond overlap population (BOP) indicating the covalency between Ti and S was about 0.339. One the other hands, the Mulliken charge of lithium was about 0.79, which means that Li is fully ionized. The BOP, the covalency between Ti and O, was 0.181 in $LiTiO_2$. Because of high ionicity of Li and the weak covalency between Ti and the nearest anion, $LiTiO_2$ has a higher intercalation voltage than that of $LiTiS_2$.

  • The microwave dielectric ceramic properties of $CaTiO_3-(Li_{1/2}Nd_{1/2})TiO_3$ were investigated. The solid solution of $CaTiO_3-(Li_{1/2}Nd_{1/2})TiO_3$ had the perovskite structure in the range of all composition. The dielectric constant and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency of solid solution were decreased with the contend of $(Li_{1/2}Nd_{1/2})TiO_3$, whereas, the $Q{\times}f$ value was increased. In the $(1-X)CaTiO_3-X(Li_{1/2}Nd_{1/2})TiO_3$ system, the microwave properties could be controlled by the variation of X, X is weight fraction. Typical value of K=119, $Q{\times}f=2970$ and $TCF=14ppm/^{\circ}C$ were obtained for $0.2CaTiO_3-0.8(Li_{1/2}Nd_{1/2})TiO_3$.

  • 전기-광 효과를 이용한 광변조기, 스위치 등의 소자 구현을 위해 고품질의 Ti:LiNbO$_3$ 광도파로 제작은 필수적이다. LiNbO$_3$ 광도파로는 양자교환(APE) 및 Ti 확산 법으로 제조할 수 있으며 전자의 경우 ne 는 증가, no는 감소되는 경향이 있어 편광도 파로의 제작에 용의하며 후자의 경우 ne 와 no 모두 증가하는 도파로 특성을 갖는다. 이러한, 도파로 소자의 특성 향상을 위해서는 Li out-diffusion 이 억제된 손실이 적은 도파로 제작이 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 Ti 내부 확산법을 이용한 LiNbO$_3$ 광도파로를 확산분위기를 조건으로 하여 제작하였으며, 온도에 따른 각 이온의 반응 메커니즘에 관하여 관찰하였다.
