모의 비방사성폐기물의 유리화시 발생 분진의 재순환처리장치 및 배관 내 침적분진에 의한 막힘 방지용 제진장치의 개발 (Development of Dust Recycling System and Dust Cleaner in Pipe during Vitrification of Simulated Non-Radioactive Waste)

  • ${\cdot}$저준위 고체폐기물의 유리고화처리 적용연구를 위하여, 현대모비스는 원자력환경기술원 및 프랑스 SGN사와 공동으로 99년 10월에 유리화 실증설비를 건설한 바 있다. 실증설비를 활용하여 모의핵종(Co, Cs)을 포함한 비방사성 이온교환수지, 잡고체 등에 대한 70여 회 이상의 실증시험 수행을 통하여, 대상폐기물을 안전하고 효과적으로 처리할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 그러나 처리공정 중 고온세라믹필터계통(High Temperature Filter : HTF)에서 발생하는 분진의 처리가 문제점으로 도출되었다. 또한 저온용융로(Cold Crucible Melter : CCM)와 HTF를 연결하는 냉각파이프는 장기간 운전시 CCM으로부터 발생한 분진이 침적되어 배관막힘의 우려가 있다. 이와 관련, 기 개발한 유리화공정에 추가하여 HTF에서 발생한 분진을 재순환하는 장치와 냉각파이프 내 침적분진을 제거하는 장치를 개발하였다. 유리화공정 중 HTF에서 발생하는 분진의 처리는 유리화설비의 감용비, 처분비용 및 유리용탕의 조절 측면에서 특히 중요하다. 분진재순환장치(Dust Recycling System : DRS)의 개념은, HTF 하단부에서 발생분진을 수거, 물과 섞어 슬러리 형태로 제조, 이송하여 CCM 내로 다시 투입함으로써 분진을 처리할 수 있도록 하였다. DRS의 주 기능은 분진 내의 모의핵종 및 주요 유리성분을 다시 CCM으로 재순환 처리하는 것이며, 이에 따라 유리용탕의 성분을 일정하게 유지하고 또한 유리배출을 용이하게 하는 데 기여한다. 또한 시멘트 고화설비 등과 같은 별도의 분진처리설비를 고려할 필요가 없다. 제진장치는 주기적으로 운전 중 가동할 경우, 냉각파이프 내의 분진침적에 의한 막힘 방지와 함께 배관 내 침적된 분진을 CCM 내로 다시 처리하는 효과를 기대할 수 있다. 유리화실증시험을 통하여 DRS와 제진장치에 대한 전체적인 성능평가를 성공적으로 수행하였으며, 운전결과 및 경험은 향후 상용설비를 위한 기본자료로 활용할 것이다.

NCM계 리튬이온 배터리 양극재의 그라파이트 첨가 탄산화 배소와 수침출에 의한 Li 회수 (Lithium Recovery from NCM Lithium-ion Battery by Carbonation Roasting with Graphite Followed by Water Leaching)

  • 리튬이온배터리의 수요가 증가함에 따라 향후 발생할 폐리튬이온배터리 중의 유가금속 회수가 필요하다. 대량의 폐리튬이온배터리 리사이클링에는 건식제련이 적합하지만 Li이 슬래그나 분진으로 손실되는 문제점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 폐리튬이온배터리의 NCM계 양극재로부터 Li을 회수하기 위해 그라파이트 첨가에 따른 탄산화 배소와 수침출 거동에 대해 조사하였다. 그라파이트를 10 wt% 첨가 시, Ar 및 CO2 분위기에서 승온 중 약 850 K에서 급격한 무게 감소와 함께 CO 및 CO2 가스가 배출되었다. 급격한 무게 감소 후 NCM은 금속 산화물 및 순금속으로 분해되고 환원되었다. 따라서 블랙파우더(NCM+그라파이트)의 탄산화 배소에서는 NCM의 분해에 의해 O2가 발생하면서 Li2O, NiO 등의 산화물이 생성되고, 이어서 Li2O가 CO2와 반응하여 Li2CO3를 생성하며, NiO의 일부는 그라파이트에 의해 환원되어 금속 Ni을 생성한다. 그리고 탄산화 배소 후 수침출에 의해 약 99.95 % 순도의 Li2CO3를 최대 94.5 %까지 회수하였다.

Enhanced Production of Epothilone by Immobilized Sorangium cellulosum in Porous Ceramics

  • Epothilone, which is produced by the myxobacterium Sorangium cellulosum, contributes significant value in medicinal development. However, under submerged culture conditions, S. cellulosum will accumulate to form bacterial clumps, which hinder nutrient and metabolite transportation. Therefore, the production of epothilone by liquid fermentation is limited. In this study, diatomite-based porous ceramics were made from diatomite, paraffin, and poremaking agent (saw dust). Appropriate methods to modify the porous ceramics were also identified. After optimizing the preparation and modification conditions, we determined the optimal prescription to prepare high-performance porous ceramics. The structure of porous ceramics can provide a solid surface area where S. cellulosum can grow and metabolize to prevent the formation of bacterial clumps. S. cellulosum cells that do not form clumps will change their erratic metabolic behavior under submerged culture conditions. As a result, the unstable production of epothilone by this strain can be changed in the fermentation process, and the purpose of increasing epothilone production can be achieved. After 8 days of fermentation under optimized conditions, the epothilone yield reached 90.2 mg/l, which was increased four times compared with the fermentation without porous ceramics.

Effects of Housing Systems on Behaviour, Performance and Welfare of Fast-growing Broilers

  • This experiment aimed to evaluate the effects of different housing systems on behavioral activities, welfare and meat quality of fast-growing broilers. Two hundred broilers were allocated into two housing systems: indoor housing vs indoor with outdoor access. Their general behavior (feeding, drinking, fighting, standing, lying, walking, investigating, dust-bathing and preening) was observed, and tonic immobility, fluctuating asymmetry of legs and wings were measured, and meat quality was analyzed. The results showed that the indoor-housed broilers with outdoor access had significant higher standing, walking, investigating, dust-bathing and preening than those indoor only. However, farming system was not found to significantly affect their feeding, drinking and fighting activities (p>0.05). The value of FA of tibia length of the broilers with outdoor access was significantly lower than that of the indoor-housed birds ($1.57{\pm}1.30$ vs $2.76{\pm}1.40$, p<0.05), while no difference was found for the value of FA in tibia diameter and wing length (p>0.05). TI of the broilers with outdoor access was 165.5 that was significantly higher than that (147.2) of the indoor birds (p<0.05). However, death rate in the outdoor run groups was significantly higher than that of the indoor ones ($2.0{\pm}0.81$ vs $4.0{\pm}0.82$, p<0.05). Meat quality was not affected by the two farming systems. It can be concluded that the results of this study may suggest that the indoor housing with outdoor access provides enriched environment for broilers and facilitates the expression of natural behaviors of the broilers but resulted in poorer performance and higher death rate.

Study of Stray-light Analysis and Suppression Methods for the Spectroscopic System of a Solar-radiation Observer Instrument

  • To improve the measurement accuracy of a solar-radiation observer instrument, aiming at the problem of multiorder-stray-light interference caused by the diffraction of the flat-field concave grating in the spectroscopic system, straylight suppression methods for different forms of optical traps are studied. According to the grating surface-scattering distribution-function model, the bidirectional scattering distribution function (BSDF) of a dust-polluted surface and the flat-field concave grating's transition area of the spectroscopic system is calculated, and a Lyot stop with blade baffle is designed to suppress this kind of stray light. For diffraction multiorder stray light, based on the theory of light-energy transmission, a design for precise positioning of the trench optical trap is proposed. The superiority of the method is verified through simulation and actual measurement. The simulation results show that in a spectroscopic system approximately 160 mm × 140 mm × 80 mm in size, the energy of the stray light is reduced by one order of magnitude by means of the trench optical trap and Lyot stop, and the number of beams is reduced from 5664 to 1040. The actual measurements show that the stray-light-suppression efficiency is about 69.4%, which is effective reduction of the amount of stray light.

Temporal distribution, influencing factors and pollution sources of urban ambient air quality in Nanchong, China

  • The $PM_{10}$, $SO_2$ and $NO_2$ mass concentrations were obtained over five years from monitoring stations across Nanchong, a southwest city in China. Changes in urban air quality over time, as well as the factors influencing that change, were evaluated based on air pollutant concentrations, the Air Pollution Index (API), and the Comprehensive Pollution Index (P). The results showed that the total annual mean $PM_{10}$, $SO_2$ and $NO_2$ concentrations over the five years studied were $61.1{\pm}1.1$, $45.0{\pm}3.9$ and $34.9{\pm}4.9{\mu}g{\cdot}m^{-3}$, respectively. The annual mean concentrations displayed a generally decreasing trend; lower than the annual mean second-level air quality limit. Meanwhile, the annual mean API values were in a small range of 52-53, the air quality levels were grade II, and P values were 1.06-1.21 less than the slight level ($P{\leq}1.31$). Total monthly mean $PM_{10}$, $SO_2$, $NO_2$ concentrations, and API and P values were consistently higher in winter and spring than during autumn and summer. The results of a correlation analysis showed that temperature and pressure were the major meteorological factors influencing pollution levels. Pollution sources included industrial coal and straw burning, automobiles exhaust and road dust, fireworks, and dust storms.

한국인과 중국인의 황사로 인한 자각증상 및 예방행동 (The Perceived Symptom and Preventive Behavior Related to Asian Dust Event: in South Korean and Chinese)

  • Recently rapid environmental changes due to desertification and industrialization in China make a threat to Korea, especially during Asian Dust Event (ADE). This study was aimed to compare symptoms and behaviors related to ADE between Korea and China. We conducted questionnaires on self-reported symptoms and behaviors before and during ADE. Korean and Chinese subjects were grouped into children, adults, and elderly by nation (n=791). Statistical analyses were performed by $X^2$-test, Fisher's exact test, t-test and chow's test for comparing differences between Korean and Chinese. We estimated the odds ratio for perceived symptoms during ADE by preventive behavior, using Generalized Estimation Equation (GEE). The study indicated that there were significant differences between symptoms in Korea and those in China such as cold, cough, and sore throat, especially in elderly. Preventive behaviors such as avoiding outdoor activity and wearing sunglasses were more often performed in China than Korea. However wearing mask was more often performed in Korea than China. After adjusting for age, sex, educational level, and smoking status, the odds ratio (OR) of dry cough symptom in Korea was significantly decreased by closing the windows and wearing a mask during ADE. In China, the OR of dry cough symptom was decreased by wearing a mask and avoiding outdoor activity. We found that China which had higher performance of preventive behavior showed lower prevalence of symptoms during ADE than Korea. Also preventive behaviors could affects prevalence of symptoms during ADE. This results suggest that preventive behavior. could reduce symptoms during ADE and there are needed for. more attentions to reduce a threat of ADE.

내화성 경량 무기 발포보드를 이용한 커튼월 시스템의 시공성능에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Construction Performance of Curtain Wall Systems Using Fire-Resistant & Light-Weight Inorganic Composite Foam Board)

  • 본 연구는 경량 무기 발포보드를 이용한 커튼월시스템의 시공성 및 경제성 분석에 관한 연구로, 내화성 경량 무기 발포보드는 커튼월의 백패널로 이용하기 위해 개발된 신소재로 내화성능은 선행연구를 통해 실물 내화시험을 실시하여 이미 분석한 바 있다. 본 연구에서는 실제 건물에 내화성 커튼월 시스템을 설치하여 Mock-up test를 수행하고 일반적인 커튼월 시스템과 비교 검토하였다. 이 시스템은 기존의 커튼월 시스템과 동일한 방법으로 시공되는데, 다만 내화성능 확보를 위해 공장에서 제단되어 온 경량무기 발포보드 사용하고, 이를 커튼월 프레임에 취부한다. 비록 기존 커튼월 대비 프레임에 부착해야하는 추가 작업이 발생하나, 경량 무기 발포보드를 이용한 백패널은 커팅만으로 제작이 간편하고, 분진발생이 없어 인체에 무해하며, 파손여부를 바로 확인할 수 있어 품질확보가 용이하다. 따라서 이 시스템은 높은 수준의 내화성을 확보하면서도 시공성과 경제성면에서도 기존 커튼월 시스템과 동등이상임으로 판단된다.

Molecular Characterization of A Novel Bacillus thuringiensis Strain from China

  • A strain of Bacillus thuringiensis that showed signifi­cantly high toxicity to Plutella xylostella was isolated from a dust sample collected from Chinese tobacco warehouse and characterized. The isolate named B. thuringiensis LY-99 was determined to belong to subsp. alesti (H3a3c) by an H antisera agglutination test and produced bipyramidal inclusions. Plasmid and crystal protein patterns of the LY-99 were different from those of the reference strain, subsp. alesti. PCR analysis with specific primers revealed that this isolate contained abundant cry genes including crylAa, crylAc, crylB, crylD, crylE, crylF and cry2 genes, which was absolutely different from cry gene profile of the subsp. alesti. In addition, insecticidal activity of the LY-99 against P. xylostella larvae was about 44 times higher than that of the subsp. alesti.
