A computer-based low back muscle evaluation system was designed to simultaneously acquire, process, display, quantify, and correlate electromyographic(EMG) activity with muscle force, and range of motion(ROM) in the lumbar muscle of human. This integrated multi-channel system was designed around notebook PC. Each channel consisted of a time and frequency domain block, and T-F(time-frequency) domain block. The captured data in each channel was used to display and Quantify : raw EMG, histogram, zero crossing, turn, RMS(root mean square), variance, mean, power spectrum, median frequency, mean frequency, wavelet transform, Wigner-Ville distribution, Choi-Williams distribution, and Cohen-Posch distribution. To evaluate the performance of the designed system, the static and dynamic contraction experiments from lumbar(waist) level of human were done. The experiment performed in five subjects, and various parameters were tested and compared. This system could equally well be modified to allow acquisition, processing, and analysis of EMG signals in other studies and applications.
A multichannel smart sound sensor capable to detect and identify sound events in noisy conditions is presented in this paper. Sound information extraction is a complex task and the main difficulty consists is the extraction of highlevel information from an one-dimensional signal. The input of smart sound sensor is composed of data collected by 5 microphones and its output data is sent through a network. For a real time working purpose, the sound analysis is divided in three steps: sound event detection for each sound channel, fusion between simultaneously events and sound identification. The event detection module find impulsive signals in the noise and extracts them from the signal flow. Our smart sensor must be capable to identify impulsive signals but also speech presence too, in a noisy environment. The classification module is launched in a parallel task on the channel chosen by data fusion process. It looks to identify the event sound between seven predefined sound classes and uses a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) method. Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients are used in combination with new ones like zero crossing rate, centroid and roll-off point. This smart sound sensor is a part of a medical telemonitoring project with the aim of detecting serious accidents.

For designing radio communication systems, radio-channel effects must be considered in order to obtain the desired communication quality, transmitting power, transmission speed and bit error rate. In radio channel, one of major factors that degrade communication quality is multipath fading between transmitting and receiving points. Therefore, a channel model which can describe fading effects correctly is requested. This paper deals with the composition of the channel simulator model that describes multipath fading effects and delay times which occur in the channel. For the performance analysis of the proposed model, trandmitting signal is used in the simulation. From simulation results, it can be shown that probability density function. level crossing rates and average fading-duration time distribution of the faded receive signal are very similar with theoretic values.

Empirical modeling of wireless fading channels using common schemes such as autoregression and the finite state Markov chain (FSMC) is investigated. The conceptual background of both channel structures and the establishment of their mutual dependence in a confined manner are presented. The novel contribution lies in the proposal of a new approach for deriving the state transition probabilities borrowed from economic disciplines, which has not been studied so far with respect to the modeling of FSMC wireless fading channels. The proposed approach is based on equal portioning of the received signal-to-noise ratio, realized by using an alternative probability construction that was initially highlighted by Tauchen. The associated statistical procedure shows that a first-order FSMC with a limited number of channel states can satisfactorily approximate fading. The computational overheads of the proposed technique are analyzed and proven to be less demanding compared to the conventional FSMC approach based on the level crossing rate. Simulations confirm the analytical results and promising performance of the new channel model based on the Tauchen approach without extra complexity costs.
Shape ellipticity dependence of the exciton fine energy levels in CdTe and CdSe nanocrystal quantum dots were compared theoretically by considering the crystal structure and the Coulomb interaction of an electron and a hole. While quantum dot ellipticity changes from an oblate to prolate quantum dot via spherical shape, both the fine energy levels and the dipole moment in wurtzite structure of a CdSe quantum dot change linearly for ellipticity. In contrast, CdTe quantum dots were found to show a level crossing between the bright and dark exciton states with a significant change of the dipole moment due to the cubic structure. Shape ellipticity dependence of the optical nonlinearities in CdTe and CdSe nanocrystal quantum dots was also calculated by using semiconductor Bloch equations. For a spherical shape quantum dot, only $1^L$ dominates the optical nonlinearities in a CdSe quantum dot, but both $1^U$ and $0^U$ contribute in a CdTe quantum dot. As excitation pulse area becomes strong (${\sim}{\pi}$), the optical nonlinearities of both CdSe and CdTe quantum dots are mainly governed by absorption saturation. However, in the case of a prolate CdTe quantum dot, the real part of the nonlinear refractive index becomes relatively significant.
In this paper, we propose Time-Division-Multiplexing Tertiary Offset Carrier (TDMTOC), a novel GNSS modulation based on Tertiary Offset Carrier (TOC) modulation. The TDMTOC modulation multiplexes two three-level signals (i.e., -1, 0, and 1) while crossing over time, and is a type of TOC modulation designed specifically for signal multiplexing. The proposed modulation generates TDMTOC subcarriers of two different phases by simply combining two Binary Offset Carrier (BOC) subcarriers by addition or subtraction. TDMTOC has better correlation and spectral properties than conventional BPSK, BOC, and MBOC modulation techniques, and has good power and spectral efficiency since it can multiplex signals without power loss similar to time division multiplexing. To prove this, we introduce the multiplexing process of TDMTOC, and compare TDMTOC with Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK), BOC, Composite BOC (CBOC), and Time Multiplexed BOC (TMBOC) that are currently serviced in GNSS by simulations of various aspects. Through the simulation results, we prove that TDMTOC has better correlation property than modulations currently used in GNSS, less intersystem interference due to its wide spectrum property, and robustness in multipath and noise channel environments.
We performed a genome-wide linkage and quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis to confirm the existence of QTL affecting Rous Sarcoma Virus (RSV) induced tumor regression, and to estimate their effects on phenotypic variance in an F2 resource population. The F2 population comprised 158 chickens obtained by crossing tumor regressive White Leghorn (WL) and tumor progressive Rhode Island Red (RIR) lines was measured for tumor formation after RSV inoculation. Forty-three tumor progressive and 28 tumor regressive chickens were then used for genome-wide linkage and QTL analysis using a total of 186 microsatellite markers. Microsatellite markers were mapped on 20 autosomal chromosomes. A significant QTL was detected with marker LEI0258 located within the MHC B region on chromosome 16. This QTL had the highest F ratio (9.8) and accounted for 20.1% of the phenotypic variation. Suggestive QTL were also detected on chromosomes 4, 7 and 10. The QTL on chromosome 4 were detected at the 1% chromosome-wide level explaining 17.5% of the phenotypic variation, and the QTLs on chromosome 7 and 10 were detected at the 5% chromosome-wide level and explained 11.1% and 10.5% of the phenotypic variation, respectively. These results indicate that the QTLs in the non-MHC regions play a significant role in RSV-induced tumor regression. The present study constitutes one of the first preliminary reports in domestic chickens for QTLs affecting RSV-induced tumor regression outside the MHC region.
Currently science and technology are changing so fast and college mathematics becomes more and more important. But the downturn of freshmen's scholastic performance has been intensified and this phenomenon leads to serious problems in managing college curriculums. During the recent years at a middle level engineering college, many freshmen had a lot of difficulties in their mathematics courses. In consequence, many of them had hard time to survive at their major curriculums. In this point of view, we analyse the situation of mathematical scholastic ability among engineering majored freshmen through the research on the actual state of mathematical background, mathematical scholastic ability test, college mathematics scores, and scholastic aptitude test scores. We study the relation between the mathematics score of scholastic aptitude test for the college entrance and mathematical scholastic ability of freshmen of a middle level engineering college. From this study we conclude that the essential reasons for the above situations are the curriculum of middle school mathematics and the system of scholastic aptitude test and the entrance examination of university. In order for improving mathematical accomplishment. we give suggestions such as a learning ability improvement program in mathematics.
