마카(Lepidium meyenii) 보충이 생쥐에서 Scopolamine으로 손상된 기억력 회복에 미치는 효과 (Effect of Maca Supplementation on Scopolamine-Induced Memory Impairment of Mice)

  • With an increase in the number of people suffering from ageing-related diseases in our rapidly aging society, interests in natural products such as maca(Lepidium meyenii), which has properties of enhancing cognition and sexual performance, have increased. This study was conducted to assess the effects of 7 weeks of maca extract supplementation(0.5~2.0 g/kg BW) on scopolamine-induced amnesia in mice and on sperm count in male mice. All doses of maca supplementation significantly protected against scopolamine-induced amnesia as determined by a Morris water maze, but not according to passive avoidance tests. Maca supplementation did not affect acetylcholinesterase activity in the whole brain, nor the testicular sperm count of male mice. This study suggests that maca may have some neuroprotective properties in mice, which will be further examined by future studies.

마카 분말을 첨가한 양갱의 품질특성 (Quality Characteristics of Yanggaeng added with Maca (Lepidium meyenii) Powder)

  • This study investigated the physicochemical, antioxidant activity, and sensory properties of yanggaeng (white bean jelly) prepared with various amounts of maca(Lepidium meyenii) powder. According to the results, $^{\circ}Brix$ value and pH of yanggaeng were decreased significantly by adding maca powder. Moisture contents of groups with 1% and 3% of maca powder were higher than that of control group. At the result of color measurement, L value of groups by the addition of maca powder was lower than that of control group, but b value of groups by the addition of Chinese artichoke powder was higher. Texture measurement score in terms of hardness, chewiness, and brittleness for yanggaeng was decreased significantly by the addition of maca powder. DPPH radical scavenging activity of groups by the addition of maca powder were higher than that of control group. NSA of groups with 7% of maca powder was higher than that of control group. As maca powder increased, antioxidant activity also became bigger. Sensory evaluation scores in terms of after swallowing, appearance, odor, taste, texture, and overall preference of groups with 3% and 5% of maca powder did show significant differences when compared to the control group. The results of this study suggested that addition of 5% maca powder was the best substitution ratio for yanggaeng.

효소처리에 의한 천연 마카음료 개발을 위한 최적 추출 조건 (Optimization of Maca (Lepidium meyenii) Extraction for Natural Beverage Development using Enzyme Treatment)

  • The purpose of this study was to establish the best optimized extraction condition for the optimal development of fresh maca beverage using low temperature extraction and enzyme treatment. Low temperatures were applied to prevent heat-related nutritional loss during the extraction process. Best extraction conditions were investigated based on the ratio of maca to water, the ratio of enzymes, extraction temperature and time, and agitation. The optimal enzyme conditions were also examined after the treatment of cellulase:pectinase mixture to maintain the original color and flavor, as well as to increase the extraction yield. When cellulase:pectinase was 1:1, the extraction rate ranged from 77.84 to 79.29%. In addition, the best extraction rate was found when maca was mixed with twice volume of water and incubated at $45^{\circ}C$ ($84.05{\pm}0.32%$) with 90 rpm ($87.13{\pm}0.46%$) agitation for 3 hours ($84.73{\pm}0.29%$). Furthermore, sensory evaluation showed a high score in flavor, sweetness, and overall acceptability after adding 3% jujube concentrate into a fresh maca beverage.

마카 분말을 첨가한 쌀쿠키의 항산화 활성과 품질 특성 (Antioxidant Activity and Quality Characteristics of Rice cookies Prepared with Maca (Lepidium Meyenii) Powder)

  • This study was conducted to find out the bakery processing suitability of maca and to develop rice-based processed foods. We investigated the antioxidant activity and physicochemical properties of rice cookies prepared with the addition of maca (Lepidium meyenii) powder (1%, 2%, 3%, and 4% of the total materials). We observed an increase in the total polyphenol and flavonoid content, and DPPH-ABTS+ radical scavenging activity of the rice cookies as the proportion of added maca powder increased (p<0.05). The quality characteristics such as the "a" value, "b" value, and the hardness of the cookies increased with an increase in the proportion of maca powder (p<0.05) in the cookie, whereas the moisture content, pH of the dough, spread ratio, loss rate, leavening rate, and "L" values showed a significant decrease (p<0.05). In the sensory evaluation results, consumer acceptability showed a significantly higher value in the 2% maca cookie group (p<0.05), and the characteristic intensity rating (color, flavor, bitterness) increased as the proportion of maca added to the cookie increased (p<0.05). Therefore, this suggests that adding 2% maca powder as the functional ingredient in rice cookies can result in rice bakery products with excellent qualities.

마카(Lepidium meyenii Walp)의 안정적인 재배를 위한 비닐 피복 및 터널 처리의 효과 (Effect of Vinyl Mulching and Tunnel Treatment for Stable Cultivation of Maca (Lepidium meyenii Walp))

  • 마카(Maca, Lepidium meyenii Walp)는 십자화과 두해살이풀로서 페루의 안데스 산맥이 원산지이며 세계 여러 나라에서 건강기능식품, 음료 등의 가공원료로 이용되고 있다. 최근 마카의 기능성 성분이 밝혀지면서 국내에서도 재배 면적이 증가하고 있으나 연작장해, 동계 저온으로 인한 고사 등으로 인하여 생산량은 매우 저조한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 노지 환경에서 비닐피복과 지상부에 비닐 터널을 처리하여 겨울철 고사율을 줄이고 연장장해를 회피하여 마카를 안정적으로 재배하고자 실시하였다. 마카 재배는 경상북도 경산지역에서 2017년 9월 24일 파종하여 2018년 4월 30일에 수확하였으며, 처리는 비닐피복, 비닐피복+터널, 비가림하우스 및 대조구로 노지에서 무피복재배로 실시하였다. 동해에 의한 마카 고사율은 비닐피복과 노지재배에서 55.7, 79.1%였으나 비닐피복+터널과 비가림하우스에서는 3%이하로 조사되어 노지환경에서 비닐피복 후 지상부 터널설치로 동해를 방지할 수 있었다. 수확 시 마카의 생체중은 비가림하우스에서 주당 57.8g으로 가장 높았으며, 비닐피복+터널설치, 비닐피복 및 노지재배에서 각각 52.7, 21.3, 10g으로 조사되어 동계 지상부 15cm 지점의 평균온도(비가림하우스 : $3.4^{\circ}C$, 비닐피복+터널설치 : $1.9^{\circ}C$, 노지 : $-2.1^{\circ}C$)와 정의 상관관계를 나타냈다. 마카의 이용부위인 뿌리의 무게는 비가림하우스와 비닐피복+터널에서 각각 주당 15.5, 19.9g으로 조사되어 비교적 비닐피복+터널처리의 생육이 좋았으나 통계적 유의성은 없었다. 마카는 다닥냉이속 작물로 저온경과 후 뿌리비대가 이루어지는 속성을 가지고 있으나 생육후기 고온으로 인한 지상부 생육은 뿌리비대를 저하시키는 것으로 추정되어 3월 이후 온도관리는 좀 더 연구가 진행되어야 할 것이다. 노지와 비닐피복 재배에서는 뿌리의 무게가 주당 3.9, 2.7g으로 정상적인 수확이 불가능하였다. 마카를 노지에서 재배할 경우 비닐피복 후 지상부에 터널을 설치하면 연작장해 회피와 동해에 의한 고사율을 줄일 수 있어 안정적인 재배가 가능한 것으로 판단되었다.

콩다닥냉이 추출물에 의한 HCT116 대장암세포의 사멸 유도에 관한 연구 (Induction of Apoptosis in Human Colon Carcinoma HCT116 Cells Using a Water Extract of Lepidium virginicum L.)

  • 연구에서는 콩다닥냉이 추출물의 항암활성을 조사하기 위하여 잎 및 뿌리의 열수 추출물(WELVL 및 WELVR)이 HCT116 대장암세포의 증식 억제와 연관된 apoptosis 유도 기전에 관한 연구를 시도하였다. 본 연구의 결과에 의하면 HCT116 세포에 WELVL 및 WELVR을 처리하였을 경우에 유발되는 증식 억제 및 형태 변화는 apoptosis 유발과 밀접한 연관이 있었으며, 증식억제 및 apoptosis 유도 효과는 WELVL에 비하여 WELVR에서 높게 나타났다. 특히 WELVR에 의한 apoptosis 유발에는 FasL의 발현 증가를 통한 caspase-8의 활성화와 이로 인한 Bid 단백질의 단편화와 함께 Bcl-2 family의 발현 변화를 통한 mitochondria의 기능 이상과 이로 인한 caspase-9 및 -3의 활성화, 그리고 기질단백질들의 분해가 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 IAP family의 발현 감소로 인한 caspase의 활성 증가도 어느 정도 관여하는 것으로 생각되어진다. 따라서 WELVR 처리에 의하여 유발되는 apoptosis는 extrinsic pathway 및 intrinsic pathway를 모두 경유하는 multiple apoptotic pathway에 의하여 조절되는 것으로 생각되며, 이러한 결과들은 인체 암세포에서 콩다닥냉이의 항암작용을 이해하는데 중요한 자료가 될 것이고 나아가 콩다닥냉이 추출물을 포함한 그와 유사한 항암제 후보물질들의 연구 기초자료로서 사용될 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

에탄올로 발기부전을 유도한 흰쥐의 성기능 개선에 마카추출물이 미치는 영향 (Effect of Lepidium spp. (Maca) Extract on the Improvement of Sexual Function in Rats Induced Erectile Dysfunction with Ethanol)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Maca water and/or ethanol extract on the nitric oxide (NO) production in human umbilical vein endothelial cells HUVAC and on erectile dysfunction in rats. Maca was extracted due to both solutions, which are water and ethanol. Each Maca extract was applied to HUVAC, and NO production was checked. Additionally, three different dosages (250, 500 and 1,000 mg/kg) of Maca ethanol extract was administered to Sprague-Dawley rats for 4 weeks. All rats were sacrificed and each sample was collected for analysis. The control rats received only the saline vehicle. The NO production of HUVAC was significantly increased by domestic and homemade Maca water extracted at $60^{\circ}C$ group. Both NO generation and testosterone release were not influenced due to the oral administration of Maca. In the EtOH group rats, the number of sperm was reduced compared to that of the control group. All Maca groups had a high number of sperm and each sperm count had increased as a result of the Maca extract dose. The results of this research suggest that Maca has a positive effect on male erectile dysfunction, which need to be examined further in future studies.

구강암에 대한 약용식물 추출물의 항암효과에 관한 연구 (STUDIES ON ANTI-ORAL CANCER ACTIVITIES OF MEDICINAL PLANT EXTRACTS)

  • Treatment of oral cancers with chemotherapeutic agents are evaluated as an effective method for remission to reduce cancer proliferation nowadays. But, minimization of side-effects such as bone marrow suppression, gastrointestinal toxicity and renal damage is another problem to be solved. Thus, a possible approach to develop a clinically applicable chemotherapeutic agents is to screen anticancer activity among traditional medicinal plants which have been used for thousands of years with very low side-effects in orient. In this study we focused on screening anti-oral cancer activities among 14 traditional medicinal plant extracts that revealed anticancer activities on other solid tumors. The results were as follow : 1. Methanol extract of Lepidium apetalum showed the highest anti-oral cancer activity against A253 cells. At concentration of $4{\mu}g/ml$, the cell viability was 48% under our experimental condition. $IC_{50}$ value obtained was $4{\mu}g/ml$. 2. Methanol extract of Coptis japonica and Solanum nigrum were effective on KB cells. Cell viability observed were 62% and 67% at concentration of $4{\mu}g/ml$, and $IC_{50}$ values were $12{\mu}g/ml$ and $10{\mu}g/ml$ respectively. 3. When the methanol extract of Lonicera caerule was combined with $2{\mu}g/ml$ of cisplatin, the anticancer activity was synergistically increased. One hundred ${\mu}g/ml$ of Lonicera caerule showed 92%(alone) or 59%(combined with cisplatin) cell viabilities. $IC_{50}$ value of Lonicera caerule extract against KB cells was reduced from $301{\mu}g/ml$ to $126{\mu}g/ml$ when combined with $2{\mu}g/ml$ of cisplatin. 4. Medicinal plant extracts effective on both A253 and KB cells were Coptis japonica, Lepidium apetalum, Solanum nigrum, Caesalpiniae Lignum, Curcuma aromatica.

페놀화합물에 대한 묵밭 초본식물의 감수성 (A Survey of Old-field Herbs for Susceptibility to Phenolic Compounds)

  • Phenolic compounds, p-coumaric and p-hydroxybenzoic acids, known as inhibitors for development and growth of many pioneer species on early stage of succession were used for the test fo susceptibility in various herbs collected from abandoned agricultural fields in the vicinity of Amherst(U. S. A.). The percent inhibition was generally greater for p-coumaric acid than for p-hydroxybenzoic acid. Concentrations of 5$\times$10-5 and 5$\times$10-4M generally had no significant effects, but at 5$\times$10-3M was inhibitory to germination and growth of tested species. And the percent inhibition caused by the two phenolics was correlated (r=.843, p<.01). Also the indices of resistance for germination and elongation were significant (r=.695, p<.01) in this study. While Cirsium and Lepidium invading species of early stage of succession were sharply susceptible for toxic activity by phenolic acids.
