  • The main objective of this paper is to study the application of runs to the analysis of hydrologic data. The stochastic structure of annual hydrologic data is investigated using the statistical properties of run-length for various truncation levels. Observed relative frequencies of run-length at each station are copared with the calculated and approched to the calculated. Also, it can be shown to estimate the durations of wet and dry years by the probabilities of run-length for a given truncation level. Annual precipitation data were obtained from the stations where have relatively long records, and stream flow data were generated by Markov model. The results of hypothesis test with run-lengths show independence of annual hydrologic series and Markov model can be applied to generate annual stream flow at Hyunpung, Waekwan and Gyuam.

  • We study the distributions of waiting times in variations of the geometric distribution of order k. Variation imposes length on the runs of successes and failures. We study two types of waiting time random variables. First, we consider the waiting time for a run of k consecutive successes the first time no sequence of consecutive k failures occurs prior, denoted by T(k). Next, we consider the waiting time for a run of k consecutive failures the first time no sequence of k consecutive successes occurred prior, denoted by J(k). In addition, we study the distribution of the weighted average. The exact formulae of the probability mass function, mean, and variance of distributions are also obtained.

  • The soft cancellation list (SCANL) decoding algorithm for polar codes runs L soft cancellation (SCAN) decoders with different decoding factor graphs. Although it can achieve better decoding performance than SCAN algorithm, it has high latency. In this paper, a fast simplified SCANL (Fast-SSCANL) algorithm that runs L independent Fast-SSCAN decoders is proposed. In Fast-SSCANL decoder, special nodes in each factor graph is identified, and corresponding low-latency decoding approaches for each special node is propose first. Then, syndrome check aided Fast-SSCANL (SC-Fast-SSCANL) algorithm is further put forward. The ordinary nodes satisfied the syndrome check will execute hard decision directly without traversing the factor graph, thereby reducing the decoding latency further. Simulation results show that Fast-SSCANL and SC-Fast-SSCANL algorithms can achieve the same BER performance as the SCANL algorithm with lower latency. Fast-SSCANL algorithm can reduce latency by more than 83% compared with SCANL, and SC-Fast-SSCANL algorithm can reduce more than 85% latency compared with SCANL regardless of code length and code rate.

  • In the analysis, monthly streamflow records atthe gauging station in Nakdong, Han and Geum river were used. Also, the fitness of monthly streamflow to Gamma and Long-normal distribution was tested by Kolomogorv-Smirnov test. The results obtained in this study can be summarized as follws (1) The fitness of monthly streamflow to two-parameter Gamma distribution was tested by Kolomorov-Smirnov test, which fits well to this Gamma distribution (2) The Run-length and Run-sum were simulated by the Gamma model. In this result, run-length and Run-sum of monthly streamflow were fit for Gamma model (3) The mean decreases (increases) the expected surplus (deficit) Run-Sum of the monthly streamflow. The higher the truncation level of negative Run-length and Run-sum the larger is the effect of mean.

  • In this paper a new defect length estimation algorithm using SQI(self quotient image) is presented for the MFL(magnetic flux leakage) inspection of underground gas pipelines. Gas pipelines are magnetized by the permanent magnets of the MFL PIG(pipeline inspection gauge) when the PIG runs through pipelines. If defects or corrosions exist in the pipeline, magnetic leakage flux is increased. The MFL signals measured by hall sensors are analyzed to estimate defect length using SQI. For 74 real defects carved in KOGAS pipeline simulation facility(KPSF) the accuracy of defect length estimation of the proposed algorithm was compared with that of conventional methods.

  • Zone conditional formulation for the Reynolds average reaction progress variable is used to derive an asymptotic expression for turbulent burning velocity. New DNS runs are performed for validation in a statistically one dimensional steady state configuration. Parametric study is performed with respect to turbulent intensity, integral length scale, density ratio and laminar flame speed. Results show good agreement between DNS results and the asymptotic expression in terms of measured maximum flame surface density and estimated turbulent diffusivity in unburned gas.

  • Objective: The analysis of runs of homozygosity (ROH) has been applied to assess the level of inbreeding and identify selection signatures in various livestock species. The objectives of this study were to characterize the ROH pattern, estimate the rate of inbreeding, and identify signatures of selection in the red-brown Korean native chickens. Methods: The Illumina 60K single nucleotide polymorphism chip data of 651 chickens was used in the analysis. Runs of homozygosity were analysed using the PLINK v1.9 software. Inbreeding coefficients were estimated using the GCTA software and their correlations were examined. Genomic regions with high levels of ROH were explored to identify selection signatures. Results: A total of 32,176 ROH segments were detected in this study. The majority of the ROH segments were shorter than 4 Mb. The average ROH inbreeding coefficients (FROH) varied with the length of ROH segments. The means of inbreeding coefficients calculated from different methods were also variable. The correlations between different inbreeding coefficients were positive and highly variable (r = 0.18-1). Five ROH islands harbouring important quantitative trait loci were identified. Conclusion: This study assessed the level of inbreeding and patterns of homozygosity in Red-brown native Korean chickens. The results of this study suggest that the level of recent inbreeding is low which indicates substantial progress in the conservation of red-brown Korean native chickens. Additionally, Candidate genomic regions associated with important production traits were detected in homozygous regions.
