Development of Communication Joint Tools for Implementing a Legacy-line Communication System in a Train (열차 내 무배선통신시스템 구축을 위한 통신연결장치 개발)

  • In this paper, a design of communication joint tools to implement a legacy-line communication (LLC) system, which exploits various conductive lines in a train, is presented. We develop two kinds of joint tools; one is a conductive joint tool (CJT) that is connected directly to the conventional lines and the other is the inductive joint tool (IJT) which connects the conventional lines indirectly using electromagnetic induction. As a result, the practical experiment of data communication confirms that an LLC system with the developed joint tools has a transmission rate more than 20 Mbps in the distance of 200 m away. In addition, an environmental durability test shows that the joint tools operate stably in an extreme environmenal variation. It is, therefore, considered that the developed joint tools are very useful to implement a communication network in the train working currently.

A Powerline-based Legacy-line Communication System for Implementation of a Communication Network in Ship (선박 내 통신네트워크 구축을 위한 전력선 기반 무배선통신시스템)

  • In this paper, a method of implementing a communication network in ship, which exploits a powerline-based legacy-line communication system (LLC), is presented. We develop an inductive coupling unit and a multi-interface device to connect a data communication terminal to the powerline. As a result of operation tests for the ship under working, the implemented LLC shows a transmission rate of at least 25.8 Mbps in the distance of 200 m away with 100% success rate. Thus, the system can be a useful alternative to implement a communication network in ship without additional channels. Being easy to be implemented and supporting various interfaces for data communication, the presented system will be very effective when a real-time monitoring system is launched in future digital ship.

  • In this paper, we reported the bypass unit for ship area networks in order to detour the communication failure regions and poor communication links. The device was composed of three parts of circuits for power cut-off, protection, and coupling transformer. Since the coupling transformer exerts a dominant influence on the performance of the by-pass unit, we have tried to find the optimal magnetic core materials and its dimensions. The prototype was passed through the performance test of insertion loss, temperature, and vibration characteristics. The insertion loss was around -2 dB in the range of 90 kHz ~ 30 MHz and the average communication speed was 59.2 Mbps in the laboratory. A pilot communication test using the developed tool was conducted in the training ship of the Korea Maritime and Ocean University. As a results of experiment, we showed that the wired communication among the heterogeneous-links in the ship area networks are possible by the bypass unit and also a high speed communication services are available in ~ Mbps by using a power-line.

  • In the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Line-Of-Sight datalink system, there is a possibility that the communication line is disconnected because line of sight can not be secured by one antenna due to changes in position and posture of the air vehicle. In order to prevent this, both top and bottom of air vehicle are equipped with antennas. At this time, if the signal can be transmitted and received by switching to an antenna advantageous for securing the line of sight, communication disconnection can be minimized. The legacy antenna switching method has disadvantages such that diffraction, fading due to the surface or obstacles, interference and reflection of the air vehicle are not considered, or antenna switching standard is not clear. In this paper, we propose an airborne antenna switching method for improving the performance of UAV LOS datalink system. In the antenna switching method, the performance of each of the upper and lower parts of the mounted antenna according to the position and attitude of the air vehicle is predicted by using the deep learning in an UAV LOS datalink system in which only the antenna except the receiver is duplicated. Simulation using flying test dataset shows that it is possible to switch antennas considering the position and attitude of unmanned aerial vehicle in the datalink system.

Performance analysis of legacy line communication using high current powerlines in midrange wind turbines (중형급 풍력 발전기내 전력선을 이용한 무배선 통신 성능분석)

  • This paper presents an implementation of a communication network in wind turbines, which exploits the power-line communication system (PLC). We used an inductive coupling unit and a multi-interface device to connect a data-communication terminal to the power line, to ensure that stable communication was possible at various electric current and voltage values of the generator. The results of the operation tests conducted on an operational wind turbine showed that the implemented PLC demonstrated a transmission rate of at least 43 Mbps with a 100% success rate. Moreover, a real-time image was transmitted. Thus, the system could be a useful alternative for implementing a communication network in wind turbines that does not require additional channels. Since the presented system is easy to implement, and can support various interfaces for data communication, it will be quite useful when a real-time monitoring system is launched in wind turbines.

  • The systematic management of technology infrastructure increasingly becomes critical as it represents the driving power for creating competitive advantage of nations and enterprises. In this sense, public facility and equipment, which is one major asset of technology infrastructure, should be managed effectively, systematically and efficiently to increase its overall equipment effectiveness. However, the manual and off-line communication was the unique way to communicate between the suppliers who provide facilities in the public sector and the customers who utilize the facilities in the industrial sector. This communication way caused invisibility of available usage time and increase of idle time, thereby decreasing the equipment effectiveness. This paper presents an web-based scheduling system that enables real-time collaboration and information sharing for increasing the equipment effectiveness. The designed system performs scheduling, facility management, order management and customer relationship management in an on-line platform, and carries out the processing and storing of relevant information in an integrated database. The paper includes a development approach to identify business process models and standardized system models by using object-modeling technique. The deliverable of the present work will contribute to increasing the equipment effectiveness by enhancing visibility, transparency and predictability by means of the integration with a legacy Enterprise Resource Planning.

A Web-based Translation Service with Collective Intelligence (집단지성 웹기반 번역서비스)

  • The legacy on-line translation service limits the participation to general users except clients and translators while the automatic translation service guarantees no exactness and perfectness on the translated results. This paper proposes a web-based translation service with business model that permits the participation of general users as well as translators and clients to modify and evaluate the transient contents of the translation ultimately leading to the collective intelligence.

  • The large portion of communication service areas move from a legacy wire-line voice service to mobile data service. For the purpose of satisfaction on market need, many communication systems should be installed and upgraded based on a mobile wide-band transmission facility. Recently, large part of communication service is based on internet protocol by packet switch techniques and required new technologies such as multimedia processing, QoS achievement, and mobility managememobile communication network such as IS-95A/B and CDMA2000-1X. In this paper, I analyzed the network architecture and service provision methods. in CDMA2000-1X nt. In korea, a CDMA communication technique is standardized for digital mobile communication systems. By using the analysed results, I will extract an efficient method for network evolution and a core technique for next generation mobile communication network.

  • Present communication and network environment have been moving rapidly toward wireless and mobile base from existing wired internet base. This change of trend influences greatly on business methods accordingly. Therefore many enterprises are trying hard to adopt mobile business in order to gain competitive edge of their products and they are in need of more effective and stable mobile solutions. However, the method of establishing optimal mobile computing environment and how to handle existing business process and use vast amount of database are still needed. Therefore this paper tries to realize a mobile middleware system as a mobile business establishment supporting tool that could link various computational resource on wired internet with wireless LAN, mobile phone network, and mobile devices. To accomplish that specific goal, this paper provides a powerful tool of mobile and wireless application data access that could expand the line of business already set up in general enterprises easily and rapidly into mobile environment. When this suggested solution is applied in the field of industry, it can economically change legacy business process into mobile environment without having to change existing logic and resources at all.

  • Recently, as required wireless communication traffic increase, millimeter wave mobile technologies that can secure broadband spectrum are gaining attention. However, the path loss is high in the millimeter wave channel. Massive MIMO system is being researched in which can complement the path loss by beamforming by equiped large-scale antenna at the base station. While legacy beamforming techniques have analog and digital methods, practical difficulties exist for application to massive MIMO systems in terms of system complexity and cost. Therefore, this paper studies a hybrid beamforming scheme for massive MIMO system in the millimeter wave band. Also this paper considers spatial multiplexing scheme to serve multi-users with multiple received antennas. Gains of the beamforming and the spatial multiplexing schemes are evaluated by analyzing the spectral efficiency.
