Using video synthesis to depict flowing water is useful in virtual reality, computer games, digital movies and scientific computing. This paper presents a novel algorithm for synthesizing dynamic water scenes through a sample video based on a dynamic texture model. In the paper, we treat the video sample as a 2-D texture image. In order to obtain textons, we analyze the video sample automatically based on dynamic texture model. Then, we utilize a linear dynamic system (LDS) to describe the characteristics of each texton. Using these textons, we synthesize a new video for dynamic flowing water which is prolonged and non-fuzzy in vision. Compared with other classical methods, our method was tested to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency with several video samples.

Silhouette is useful in computer graphics for a number of techniques such as non-photorealistic rendering, silhouette clipping, and blueprint generating. Methods for generating silhouette are classified into three categories: image-based, object-based, and hybrid-based. Hybrid-based method is effective in terms of time complexity but spatial coherence problem still remains. In this paper, we proposed a new hybrid-based method which produces 3D data for silhouette and also guarantees no spatial coherence problem. To verify the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, several experiments are conducted for various 3D models from simple to quite complex. Results show that our algorithm generates no gap between any two consecutive silhouette lines when the silhouette model is magnified significantly.

Intradural lumbar disc herniation[ILDH] is a rare pathology. The pathogenesis of ILDH is not known with certainty. Adhesions between the ventral wall of the dura and the posterior longitudinal ligament[PLL] could act as a preconditioning factor. Diagnosis of ILDH is difficult and seldom suspected preoperatively. Prompt surgery is necessary because the neurologic prognosis appears to be closely related to preoperative duration of neurologic symptoms. Despite preoperatively significant neurological deficits, the prognosis following surgery is relatively good. We report on case of ILDH at L3/4 with differential diagnoses, and the possible pathogenic factors are discussed.

The tendency of glioblastoma multiforme[GBM] to metastasize to the cerebrospinal fluidis well documented. However, symptomatic intradural extramedullary metastasis of GBM in the spinal cord are rarely reported. A 31-year-old female with a previously treated supratentorial GBM presented with back pain and lower extremities weakness. Magnetic resonance imaging of the thoracic spine demonstrated an intradural extramedullary mass at levels of T2-T4 and arachnoid membrane enhancement. The patient underwent an operation. Pathologic diagnosis was confirmed as spinal metastases of GBM. We present a case of spinal metastases from supratentorial GBM presented with paraparesis.

It is said that the effect in wheels of freight car varies with the type of freight, the condition of operation, the braking device, and the type of bogie. The hardness of open wagon, gondola car, propylene car, covered freight car, container car and hopper car has been measured according to the mileage through this research. As a result, the wheel with more mileages after shaving off the wheel tread has a higher hardness than the others in the case of same type of car.

To evaluate the role of imidazolidinone moiety of potential anticancer 4-phenyl-1-arylsulfonylimidazolidinones 1 for their cytotoxicity conformationally similar 4-phenyl-2-arylsulfonylaminooxazolines 2 were synthesized and compared their cytotoxicities with those of the corresponding 1. Compounds 2 showed much reduced activity compared to N-arylsulfonylimidazolidinones 1. This result might indicate that the imidazolidinone ring of 1 have the other roles for the activity as an essential structural motif in addition to conformational contribution .

In order to increase the efficiency of thermoelectric refrigerators using the Peltier effect, it is necessary to optimize the distribution of the flow of cold air from the fan. In this study, the flow flowing upwards and downwards while changing the area of the flow path was visualized using the PIV technique for the control of cold air in a thermoelectric refrigerator. From these results, the flow rate according to the change in the area of the flow path was confirmed, and design criteria for optimizing the distribution of cold air flowing to the top and bottom of the refrigerator were suggested.

A new coupling agent, 1-methanesulfonyloxy-6-trifluoromethyl-benzotriazole (3), was prepared by the reaction of 1-hydroxy-6-trifluoromethylbenzotriazole (1) and methanesulfonyl chloride. 3 was reacted with 2-(2-amino-4-thiazolyl)-2-synalkoxyi minoacetic acid (4) to give a mixture of active intermediates (5 and 6), which was treated with 7-aminocephalosporanic acid derivatives (10) to afford cephalosporin derivatives (11) in short reaction time with high yields.
