A Study on Nursing Students' Self-leadership and Their Perception of Learning (간호대학생의 셀프리더십과 학습인식)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between self-leadership and the perception of learning in nursing students. Methods: A descriptive research design was used in this study. The participants were 378 nursing students in M city and C city who were surveyed between June 1 and June 30, 2014 using self-report questionnaires. The data was analyzed using SPSS WIN 21.0 Program, which determined frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation; a One-way ANOVA; a $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test; a Pearson correlation coefficient; and a Stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results: There were significant positive correlations between nursing students' self-leadership and their perception of learning. In the multiple regression analysis, self-leadership was the most significant predictor in explaining nursing students' perception of learning. Conclusion: Study findings suggest that nursing students' self-leadership is defined as having an important influence on nursing students' perception of learning. In order to strengthen nursing students' self-leadership, there is a need to develop education programs that increase nursing students' self-leadership.

  • Three cases of double primary lung cancer occured synchronously are reported with brief review of literature. The incidence of multiple primary lung cancer relatively rare but may become increasingly prevalent as early detection techinque and cancer therapy has improved. The patients were a 67, 69, and 65-year-old men with doulbe primary lung cancer of different cell type or same cell type with other bronchus origin (squamous cell+small cell, squamous cell+squamous cell, squamous cell+bronchioloaveolar cell) were identified with flexible bronchofiberoscopic biopsies. More careful diagnostic evaluation and management are thought to be necessary.

  • In this paper, we propose a context-aware power management (CPM) scheme using beacons to reduce the power consumption of personal computers (PCs). In the proposed CPM scheme, the PC, smartphone, control server, and Internet of Things (IoT) device are necessary. PC users first log in the control server using their smartphones and select PCs to turn on. Then, the selected PCs automatically go into three different modes, i.e., sleep, shutdown, and standby power off modes, in order when the PC users leave the PCs without turning off them. Further, we develop a testbed with the proposed CPM scheme using the Arduino with Bluetooth low energy (BLE) and relay modules. Finally, it is shown that the proposed CPM scheme outperforms the conventional scheme in terms of the power consumption.

  • Hydrolysis of whey-derived proteins using lactic acid bacteria (LAB) utilizes the mass culture method and fermentation of LAB to produce effective bioactive peptides. Whey protein has the biological potential of its precursors, but the active fragments may not be released depending on the hydrolysis method. As an alternative to these problems, the nutritional and bioactive functionality of the hydrolysis method have been reported to be improved using LAB for whey protein. Peptide fractions were obtained using a sample fast protein liquid chromatography device. Antioxidant activity was verified for each of the five fractions obtained. In vitro cell experiments showed no cytotoxicity and inhibited nitric oxide production. Cytokine (IL [interleukin]-1α, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor-α) production was significantly lower than that of lipopolysaccharides (+). As a result of checking the amino acid content ratio of the fractions selected through the AccQ-Tag system, 17 types of amino acids were identified, and the content of isoleucine, an essential amino acid, was the highest. These properties show their applicability for the production of functional products utilizing dietary supplements and milk. It can be presented as an efficient method in terms of product functionality in the production of uniform-quality whey-derived peptides.

  • Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) has been extensively studied as the active material in ammonia gas sensor because of its fast response time, high conductivity and environmental stability. It is well known that a post annealing process for organic devices based on PEDOT:PSS significantly increases the device performance. In this study, we propose the solvent annealing of PEDOT:PSS and investigated its effects. As a results, post solvent annealing on PEDOT:PSS lead to the surface chemical and physical properties change. These changes result in improved conductivity of the PEDOT:PSS. In additional, ammonia sensitivity of solvent annealed PEDOT:PSS become higher than pristine polymer film. The enhancement is mainly caused by the depletion of gas barrier PSS and structural re-forming PEDOT networks. We believe that the post solvent annealing is a promising method to achieve highly sensitivity PEDOT:PSS films for applications in efficient, low-cost and flexible ammonia gas sensor.

On the Peer-Review Process Model for an Effective Technical Review (효과적인 기술검토를 위한 동료검토 프로세스 모델에 관한 연구)

  • While applying the systems engineering (SE) in systems development, a series of technical reviews play a critical role and is intended to monitor the status of the progress and outcomes of the project for which appropriate technical plans prepared earlier should be executed. It is noted however that during the technical review executed as planned, a lot of problems usually come out. Included are the ambiguity in the reports of the progress status and outcomes, discrepancies among the opinions from different participants, and the delay in carrying out the tasks. To solve those problems in an early stage, informal reviews are usually adopted before the formal technical reviews are held. A type of the informal reviews is the peer review. This paper is concerned with the peer review process model to make the later technical reviews more effective. Specifically, we first review the necessity and meaning of the peer reviews. We then study a model for the peer review process. To model the process, the methods of an IDEF modeling and schema definition have been applied using a computer-aided SE tool, Cradle(R), in the environment of the national research and development project. As a result, the implemented process model can show hew the peer review process is designed and managed to be utilized in the technical review. The documents related with the peer review process can also be generated automatically from the developed model Database. Finally, a general misunderstanding about the peer review and its improvement plan have also been mentioned.

Determination of Antioxidants Contents in Various Plants Used as Tea Materials (다류소재 식물류 중의 황산화물질 함량 분석)

  • Forty plants used as tea materials were chosen for determining the contents of total phenolics, selenium (Se), ${\beta}-carotene$, ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ and ascorbate. Total phenolics and ascorbate contents were analyzed colorimetrically. The Se contents were measured by hydride-atomic absorption spectrometry. The contents of ${\beta}-carotene$ and ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ were simultaneously determined by high performance liquid chromatography using separate detectors, UV for ${\beta}-carotene$ and FL for ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ analyses. The contents of these antioxidants were as follows (per 100 g dry plant); Contents of total phenolics in green tea leaf, black tea leaf, oolong tea leaf and instant coffee were about 7 g and the Se contents in corni fructus and arrowroot were found to be about $4{\mu}g$, which were the highest among all plants used. Contents of ${\beta}-carotene$ in eucommiae cortex, persimmon leaf and green tea leaf were 8587, 6222 and $3652\;{\mu}g$ respectively. The persimon leaf contained the highest ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ content (33 mg) and then followed by eucommiae cortex (26 mg), green tea leaf (16 mg) and black tea leaf (13 mg) in order. Ascorbate contents were found to be high in green tea leaf (199 mg) and black tea leaf (117 mg).

Growth Characteristics for Toxic Marine Dinoflagellate Alexandrium catenella Isolated from Jinhae Bay, Korea (진해만의 유독 플랑크톤 Alexandrium catenella의 성장특성)

  • Effects of water temperature, salinity and irradiance on the growth of toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium catenella (AlCt-01) were investigated, which was isolated from Jinhae Bay, Korea. The maximum growth of A. catenella strain was obtained at $150{\mu}E\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$. The ranges of temperature and salinity for the growth of the strain were $15\sim25^{\circ}C$ and $20\sim34$ PSU. The maximum growth rate of A. catenella determined was $0.45d^{-1}$ at $20^{\circ}C$, 30 PSU and $150{\mu}E\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$ We also examined the Se and Fe effects on the toxic dinoflagellate A. catenella in optimal growth conditions. As Fe concentration of medium increased from 0 to $11.7{\mu}M$, growth rate of A. catenella increased and the maximum growth rate(k=0.48 $d^{-1}$) was obtained at $11.7{\mu}M$ of Fe cone. Growth of A. catenella were stimulated at> 1nM of Se.

  • 주기적으로 제어 성능을 평가하고, 평가 결과에 따라서 제어시스템의 제어기 상수를 최적화하거나 제어 밸브와 같은 제어기기의 문제점들을 사전에 개선하고자하는 노력이 있어왔다. 제어성능 평가방법은 제어목표 값에 대한 추종성을 평가하는 Set Point Analysis 방법을 주로 사용한다. 평가 지표는 Integral Absolute Error(IAE)와 같은 Error Integral 값과 Minimum Variance 방법이 실용적으로 사용된다. 본 논문에서는 평가 대상시스템으로 원자력발전소의 수위 제어시스템중 하나를 선정하고 Control Performance Assessment를 수행하였다. 이를 기반으로 대상 시스템의 제어모델링을 바탕으로 한 Minimum Integral Error를 만족하는 제어기 상수를 구하였으며 새로운 상수를 제어기에 설정한 후 다시 성능을 평가하였다. 평가 결과, 제어시스템의 제어 성능 평가 지표를 사용한 제어 루프의 평가와 예방 조치가 실제적으로 발전소의 안정적 운전에 유용하다는 것을 입증하였다.

A Patient with Kikuchi's Disease: What Should Pain Clinicians Do?

  • Kikuchi's disease (KD) is an idiopathic and self-limiting necrotizing lymphadenitis that predominantly occurs in young females. It is common in Asia, and the cervical lymph nodes are commonly involved. Generally, KD has symptoms and signs of lymph node tenderness, fever, and leukocytopenia, but there are no reports on treatment for the associated myofacial pain. We herein report a young female patient who visited a pain clinic and received a trigger point injection 2 weeks before the diagnosis of KD. When young female patients with myofascial pain visit a pain clinic, doctors should be concerned about the possibility of KD, which is rare but can cause severe complications.
