Purpose: "Building energy design standard" is used to limit the thermal transmittance of building in Korea. However, it only covers the insulation standard for each appropriate elements of a building, not the thermal performance of Junction thermal bridge of windows and doors installed in wall. Therefore in this study, we have evaluated the thermal performance of Junction thermal bridge depending on installation method and position of windows and provide it as design data. Method: We analyzed heat transfer of 4-Track sliding window and tilt & turn triple glazed window that are placed in the first class category on window energy efficiency rating using Window 7.4 and Therm 7.4. Result : First, linear thermal transmittance of 4-Track sliding window differs by 2.2 times or more depending of installation method and location. It is higher than the linear thermal transmittance, 0.01W/mK, proposed by Passivhaus. Second, linear thermal transmittance of Tilt & turn triple glazed window differs by 7.7 times or more depending of installation method and location. The average linear thermal transmittance was less than 0.01W /mK when windows were installed on the internal wall insulation by the fixed hardware attachment method. Third, the thermal losses of a window caused by a junction thermal bridge are inversely proportional to the window area and converge gradually as the area increased.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of traditional Korean medicine as a treatment for diabetes mellitus with herniated intervertebral lumbar discs. Method: The patients were treated with the herbal medicine Jungso-tang to reduce serum glucose (FBS/PP2hrs) and HbA1c to improve diabetes mellitus in parallel with lumbar herniated intervertebral disc treatment. Results: The treatment with Jungso-tang decreased the serum glucose (FBS/PP2hrs) and HbA1c levels. Conclusion: Korean medicine may be an effective treatment for diabetes mellitus with lumbar herniated intervertebral disc.
Objective: Facial nerve palsy is caused by damage to the 7th cranial nerve. It is the main symptom of facial muscle paralysis on the affected side. Usually, recovery from this disease begins 2-3 weeks after onset and most patients recover in 4-8 weeks. If the patients cannot receive proper treatment, severe permanent impairments, both physical and mental, may remain, so this disease should be treated appropriately. In this study, a patient with facial nerve palsy was admitted to the Korean medicine hospital for treatment. We report on the patient's progress and the effects of treatment. Methods: We cured the patient with herbal medicines, acupuncture, herbal acupuncture therapy, and physical therapy. We used a numerical rating scale, the House Brackmann grading system, and a weighted regional grading system to assess symptom changes. Result: The patient with facial nerve palsy was hospitalized for 23 days and recovered from symptoms without significant problems on the face or in motor function.
Objectives: The purpose of this clinical case is to evaluate the efficacy of traditional Korean medicine as a treatment for fibromyalgia. Methods: The patient was treated with Korean medicine therapy (herbal medicine, acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and Chu-na therapy). We measured the status and progress of this patient using a numerical rating scale (NRS), EuroQol-5D, range of movement (ROM), and a special test. Results: After the treatments, the patient's pain was controlled and the NRS score decreased. The overall symptoms of the patient and the EQ-5D score were both improved. The ROM and special test score were also improved. Conclusions: Traditional Korean medicine may have positive effects as a treatment for fibromyalgia.
Human taeniases had been not uncommon in the Republic of Korea (=Korea) until the 1980s. The prevalence decreased and a national survey in 2004 revealed no Taenia egg positive cases. However, a subsequent national survey in 2012 showed 0.04% (10 cases) prevalence of Taenia spp. eggs suggesting its resurgence in Korea. We recently encountered 4 cases of Taenia saginata infection who had symptoms of taeniasis that included discharge of proglottids. We obtained several proglottids from each case. Because the morphological features of T. saginata are almost indistinguishable from those of Taenia asiatica, molecular analyses using the PCR-RFLP and DNA sequencing of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) were performed to identify the species. The PCR-RFLP patterns of all of the 4 specimens were consistent with T. saginata, and the cox1 gene sequence showed 99.8-100% identity with that of T. saginata reported previously from Korea, Japan, China, and Cambodia. All of the 4 patients had the history of travel abroad but its relation with contracting taeniasis was unclear. Our findings may suggest resurgence of T. saginata infection among people in Korea.

Currently, the leakage of internal information has emerged as one of the most significant security concerns in enterprise computing environments. Especially, damage due to internal information leakage by insiders is more serious than that by outsiders because insiders have considerable knowledge of the system's identification and password (ID&P/W), the security system, and the main location of sensitive data. Therefore, many security companies are developing internal data leakage prevention techniques such as data leakage protection (DLP), digital right management (DRM), and system access control, etc. However, these techniques cannot effectively block the leakage of internal information by insiders who have a legitimate access authorization. The security system does not easily detect cases which a legitimate insider changes, deletes, and leaks data stored on the server. Therefore, we focused on the insider as the detection target to address this security weakness. In other words, we switched the detection target from objects (internal information) to subjects (insiders). We concentrated on biometrics signals change when an insider conducts abnormal behavior. When insiders attempt to leak internal information, they appear to display abnormal emotional conditions due to tension, agitation, and anxiety, etc. These conditions can be detected by the changes of biometrics signals such as pulse, temperature, and skin conductivity, etc. We carried out experiments in two ways in order to verify the effectiveness of the emotional recognition technology based on biometrics signals. We analyzed the possibility of internal information leakage detection using an emotional recognition technology based on biometrics signals through experiments.

Eukaryotic nuclear transcription factor, NF-B and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) has been implicated in pathogenesis of many human diseases including tumor and are known to be activated by various external stimuli. Recently, increasing evidences have supported that L-ascorbic acid (LAA) is selectively toxic to some types of tumors at pharmacological concentrations as a prooxidant, rather than antioxidant.(omitted)

In the last several years, studies on the association of oxidative stress damage with exposure in the work place have been conducted. Xenobiotics create an imbalance of the homeostasis between oxidant molecules and antioxidant defense. By monitoring oxidative stress biomarkers, information was obtained on damages induced by oxidative stress and the toxicity of xenobiotics. In the present study, a Job Exposure Matrix (JEM) was constructed using the data from the Working Environment Measurement (WEM) of painters in the shipyard industry from the past 3 years to assess the exposure status. Additionally, by measuring the concentration of urinary malondialdehyde (MDA), the effect of lipid peroxidation was examined. The subjects consisted of 68 workers who were exposed to mixed organic solvents in the painting process and 25 non-exposure controls. The exposure indices of the exposure groups were significantly different (sprayer: 0.83, touchup: 0.54, assistant: 0.13, P<0.05). The urinary MDA concentration of the exposure group was 48.60${\pm}$ 39.23 ${\mu}mol$/mol creatinine, which was significantly higher than 18.03${\pm}$16.33 ${\mu}mol$/mol creatinine of the control group (P<0.05). From the multiple regression analysis of urinary MDA, the regression coefficient for exposure grade was statistically significant. In future studies, evaluation of the antioxidant levels of subjects should be performed simultaneously with quantitative exposure measurements.
Here we report the first fatality caused by H1N1 influenza virus infection with acute respiratory distress syndrome in Korea. A 55-year-old man presented at our emergency department with dyspnea, fever, diffuse myalgia and malaise. Bilateral lung air-space consolidation was detected on his initial chest radiograph combined with severe hypoxemia. He was supported by mechanical ventilation and treated with antibiotics. A nasopharyngeal aspirate was positive for influenza A rapid antigen and oseltamivir was started on day 3 of admission. The nasal swab sample was positive for influenza H1N1 virus by real-time reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Despite aggressive treatment, he had refractory hypoxemia and uncontrolled septic shock. On day 5 of admission he went into cardiac arrest and expired.
This study was executed to examine helical structure and other feature, of Taxus cuspidata S. et Z. and Larix gmelinii var. principis-ruprechtii Pilger through photomicroscopic and scanning electron microscopic observation, and the obtained result, were summarized as follows: 1. Tracheid transition from springwood to summerwood was abrupt, mel slightly gradual in Taxus cuspidata S. et Z. and summerwood width of Larix gmelinii var. principis-ruprechtii Pilger was wider than that of Taxus cuspidata S. et Z. 2. Normal vertical and horizontal resin canals and surrounding thick epithelial cells were present in Larix gmelinii var. principis-ruprechtii Pilger but not present in Taxus cuspidata S. et Z. 3. Instead of helical thickening, helical chicks were observed only in summerwood trachieds of Larix gmelinii var. principis-ruprechtii Pilger. However, helical thickenings forming S, Z., and horizontal helix perpendicular to long axis of tracheid were observed in springood and summerwood tracheids of Taxus cuspidata S. et Z. and these helical thickenings were considered as analogous to the innermost layer of secondary wall. 4. Uniseriate and fusiform rays were appeared on tangential surface of Larix gmelinii var. principis-ruprechtii Pilger but oly uniserate ray was observed on tangential surface ot Taxus cuspidata S. et Z. The fusiform rays of Larix gmelinii var. principis-ruprechtii Pilger usually contained one horizontal resin canal bot occasionally two horizontal resin canals were contained in a fusiform ray. 5. Trabeculae and crassulae were observed in the tracheids of Larix gmelimii var. principis-ruprechtii Pilger but not observed in the tracheids of Taxus cuspidata S. et Z.
