Virtual Lecture Contents for Digital Logic Circuit Using Multimedia (멀티미디어를 이용한 디지털 논리 회로 콘텐츠)

  • In this paper, we developed an virtual lecture to study digital logic circuits. The contents is intended fer the students without or with little knowledge about electrics or electronics. For the beginners, the lecture contains the basic electronics and basic circuit theory as well as the degital logic circuits to be more practical lecture. And we developed the virtual circuit lab which uses real-like devices, circuits and interactive objects for the students to experience practical digital circuits. With the features described above, this contents would be useful for the beginners who want to studying digital logic circuits.

Spatio-Temporal Residual Networks for Slide Transition Detection in Lecture Videos

  • In this paper, we present an approach for detecting slide transitions in lecture videos by introducing the spatio-temporal residual networks. Given a lecture video which records the digital slides, the speaker, and the audience by multiple cameras, our goal is to find keyframes where slide content changes. Since temporal dependency among video frames is important for detecting slide changes, 3D Convolutional Networks has been regarded as an efficient approach to learn the spatio-temporal features in videos. However, 3D ConvNet will cost much training time and need lots of memory. Hence, we utilize ResNet to ease the training of network, which is easy to optimize. Consequently, we present a novel ConvNet architecture based on 3D ConvNet and ResNet for slide transition detection in lecture videos. Experimental results show that the proposed novel ConvNet architecture achieves the better accuracy than other slide progression detection approaches.

A Case Study of Online Video Lecture : Focusing on 'Electromagnetism' Course at Junior College (온라인 동영상 수업 사례 : 전문대학 '전기자기학' 교과목을 중심으로)

  • In this study, we examined the cases of online video classes conducted under the COVID-19 situation for 46 first-year students majoring in electrical engineering at a 3-year college in Gyeongnam. The research was carried out according to the course development process so that classes could be conducted efficiently, focusing on electromagnetism(1) course in the second semester of the first year. The online class consisted of uploading PPT recorded videos and lecture materials to the LMS and giving assignments. The contents of the study were in the scope of examining learners' perceptions through online learning contents, assignment submission, mutual feedback between instructors and learners, university-level lecture evaluation, and free opinions on online video-based electromagnetism(1) classes. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that online lecture review and problem-solving are particularly important for understanding lecture materials, and also given the nature of engineering subjects that require plenty of mathematical expressions, the detailed and immediate feedback provided by instructor enhances learners' class satisfaction and understanding. Based on these, the direction of online classes to be developed after the COVID-19 pandemic and teaching and learning methods suitable for the characteristics of subjects were discussed.

  • In this paper, we suggest an authentication system for online lecture using facial information and a face recognition algorithm base on relation of face. First, a facial area on complex background is detected using color information. Second, features are extracted with edge profile. Third, compare it with the value of original facial image in database. By experiments, we know that the proposed system is an useful method for online lecture authentication system.

Study on Lecture Model for Systems Engineering Concept (시스템엔지니어링 개념 교육 모델 연구)

  • About 20 years have passed since Systems Engineering(SE) was introduced in Korea. KCOSE(Korean Council On Systems Engineering) and KOSSE(The Korean Society of Systems Engineering) were established during that period and Korean SE community has increased quantitatively. But We can not answer "Yes!" for the questions "Did Korean SE community increase qualitatively? and How about SE education or training?" Many participants at SE lecture classes said that they were not able to understand SE concept. I analyzed current SE lecture materials and then proposed new model of SE concept lecture for SE novices. The new model consists of Vee diagram, life cycle model, PMTE paradigm, technical review, SE sample and definition of SE. I expect that the proposed model will contribute to upgrade a quality of domestic SE education.

  • Learning system on virtual environment gives the immersive feeling that lacks in existing E-Learning system, excites user's interest, and offers dangerous and expensive education contents. In this paper, we classified the learning categories into four classes: realtime lecture, anytime study, practice education, and the activity of study group. We built the on-line lecture system using Second Life that supports 3D virtual world and mixed reality. We provided virtual learning environment as running developed virtual world on-line lecture system.

  • This method is a new experimental model for a mathematical education in Engineering students. We compare two different classes; one was recorded the lecture with scenario and the other was not. Also we set up the detailed structures in every lecture for mathematical modeling and solving parts. The purpose for a new model is 1) to improve the students's ability to solve the mathematical problem, 2) how to approach to getting a solution for each problem by system and 3) to provide the lectures anytime to students who want to study more mathematics.

  • 본 논문에서는 사이버 교육의 시스템적 본질을 이해할 수 있도록 사이버교육시스템의 구축 현황을 살펴보고, 실제 JAVA환경(서블릿)에서 평가지원기능을 제공하는 Web Lecture Authoring Architecture를 설계 하였다. 사이버교육 시스템이 제공하는 기능은 크게 과목관리기능, 문제관리기능. 시험관리기능, 성적평가관리기능, 학생관리기능으로 분류할 수 있으며 기존의 사이버 교육 시스템 구축사례에 미흡한 문제은행기능 및 가상시험 기능을 포함하고 있다. Web Lecture Authoring Architecture는 웹을 기반으로 구축하였으며 C/S 환경에서 구축된 시스템과는 달리 Client에 별도의 시스템을 설치할 필요 없이 웹 브라우저만으로 인터넷에서 사이버교육을 제공할 수 있도록 설계하였다는데 의의를 가지고 있다.

Study on the Factors Influencing the Quality of a Cyber Lecture

  • There are numerous advantages of online education to the students and to the institution. There are important factors to be considered for a successful online education. The purposes of this paper are to investigate students' viewpoints, called factors, to the cyber class and analyze these factors to be a successful cyber class. For theses purposes, we developed and constructed the cyber lecture, and we surveyed student evaluations two times for the cyber lecture in the middle and at the end. We found that students view the cyber class with four factors. Assessments on factors were changed during the cyber class and were different according to students' background.

Analysis of 'Better Class' Characteristics and Patterns from College Lecture Evaluation by Longitudinal Big Data

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze characteristics and patterns of 'better class' by using the longitudinal text mining big data analysis technique from subjective lecture evaluation comments. First, this study classified upper 30% classes to deduce certain characteristics and patterns from every five-year subjective text data for 10 years. A total of 47,177courses (100%) from spring semester 2005 to fall semester 2014 were analyzed from a university at a metropolitan city in the mid area of South Korea. This study extracted meaningful words such as good, course, professor, appreciation, lecture, interesting, useful, know, easy, improvement, progress, teaching material, passion, and concern from the order of frequency 2005-2009. The other set of words were class, appreciation, professor, good, course, interesting, understanding, useful, help, student, effort, thinking, not difficult, explanation, lecture, hard, pleasant, easy, study, examination, like, various, fun, and knowledge 2010-2014. This study suggests that the characteristics and patterns of 'better class' at college, should be analyzed according to different academic code such as liberal arts, fine arts, social science, engineering, math and science, and etc.
