In fuzzy modeling for nonlinear process, the fuzzy rules are typically formed by selection of the input variables, the number of space division and membership functions. The Generation of fuzzy rules for nonlinear processes have the problem that the number of fuzzy rules exponentially increases. To solve this problem, complex nonlinear process can be modeled by generating the fuzzy rules by means of fuzzy division of input space. Therefore, in this paper, rules of non-fuzzy inference systems are generated by partitioning the input space in the scatter form using HCM clustering algorithm. The premise parameters of the rules are determined by membership matrix by means of HCM clustering algorithm. The consequence part of the rules is represented in the form of polynomial functions and the consequence parameters of each rule are identified by the standard least-squares method. And lastly, we evaluate the performance and the nonlinear characteristics using the data widely used in nonlinear process. Through this experiment, we showed that high-dimensional nonlinear systems can be modeled by a very small number of rules.

We investigate the channel state information (CSI) in multi-input multi-output (MIMO) cooperative networks that employ the amplify-and-forward transmission scheme. Least squares and expectation conditional maximization have been proposed in the system. However, neither of these two approaches takes advantage of channel sparsity, and they cause estimation performance loss. Unlike linear channel estimation methods, several compressed channel estimation methods are proposed in this study to exploit the sparsity of the MIMO cooperative channels based on the theory of compressed sensing. First, the channel estimation problem is formulated as a compressed sensing problem by using sparse decomposition theory. Second, the lower bound is derived for the estimation, and the MIMO relay channel is reconstructed via compressive sampling matching pursuit algorithms. Finally, based on this model, we propose a novel algorithm so called sparsity adaptive expectation maximization (SAEM) by using Kalman filter and expectation maximization algorithm so that it can exploit channel sparsity alternatively and also track the true support set of time-varying channel. Kalman filter is used to provide soft information of transmitted signals to the EM-based algorithm. Various numerical simulation results indicate that the proposed sparse channel estimation technique outperforms the previous estimation schemes.
In this study, we developed the trial product on 3D magnetic inversion tentatively named 'KMag3D'. Also, we briefly introduced its own function and graphic user interface on which especially focused through the development in the form of user manual. KMag3D is consisted of two fundamental frame for the 3D magnetic inversion. First, algebraic reconstruction technique was selected as a 3D inversion algorithm instead of least square method conventionally used in various magnetic inversion. By comparison, it was turned out that algebraic reconstruction algorithm was more effective and economic than that of least squares in aspect of both computation time and memory. Second, for the effective determination of the 3D initial and a-priori information model required in the execution of our algorithm, we proposed the practical technique based on the assemblage of 2D forward modeling and inversion results for individual user-selected 2D profiles. And in succession, initial and a-priori information model were constructed by appropriate interpolation along the strke direction. From this, we concluded that our technique is both suitable and very practical for the application of 3D magentic inversion problem.
Two-dimensional magnetotelluric (MT) inversion algorithm using minimum support (MS) stabilizer functional was implemented in this study to enhance the contrast of inverted images. For this implementation, this study derived a formula in discrete form for creeping model updates in the least-squares linearized inversion. A spatially varying regularization parameter determination algorithm, which is known as ACB (Active Constraint Balancing), was also adopted to stabilize the inversion process when using MS stabilizer as a model constraint. Inversion experiments for a simple isolated body model show well the feature of MS stabilizer in concentrating the anomalous body compared with the second-order derivative model constraint. This study also compared MS stabilizer and the second-order derivative model constraints for a model having multiple anomalous bodies to show the applicability of the algorithm into field data.
In this study, the core dynamics of a PWR reactor is identified online by a recursive least-squares method. Based on the identified reactor model consisting of the control rod position and the core average coolant temperature, the future average coolant temperature is predicted. A model predictive control method is applied to designing an automatic controller for the thermal power control of PWR reactors. The basic concept of the model predictive control is to solve an optimization problem for a finite future at current time and to implement as the current control input only the first optimal control input among the solutions of the finite time steps. At the next time step, this procedure for solving the optimization problem is repeated. The objectives of the proposed model predictive controller are to minimize both the difference between the predicted core coolant temperature and the desired temperature, as well as minimizing the variation of the control rod positions. In addition, the objectives are subject to the maximum and minimum control rod positions as well as the maximum control rod speed. Therefore, a genetic algorithm that is appropriate for the accomplishment of multiple objectives is utilized in order to optimize the model predictive controller. A three-dimensional nuclear reactor analysis code, MASTER that was developed by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) , is used to verify the proposed controller for a nuclear reactor. From the results of a numerical simulation that was carried out in order to verify the performance of the proposed controller with a $5\%/min$ ramp increase or decrease of a desired load and a $10\%$ step increase or decrease (which were design requirements), it was found that the nuclear power level controlled by the proposed controller could track the desired power level very well.

In aerospace structural design, the position of lightening hole is often required to be optimized from the initial design in order to avoid an excessive stress concentration. To remodel the updated configuration in optimization procedure, re-meshing procedure is conventionally adopted. However, this approach is time-consuming, and has limitations especially in handling hexahedral or quadrilateral meshes, which are preferred because of their good numerical performances. To attenuate these disadvantages, new optimization scheme is proposed by combining the MLS(Moving Least Squares) based overset method and the genetic algorithm in this work. To test the validity of the proposed optimization scheme, optimizations of positions of lightening holes in 2D structures have been carried out.
Generally, a semiconductor chip measured with a few micro units is captured by line scan camera for higher inspection accuracy. However, the faulty inspection requires an exact boundary detection algorithm because it is very sensitive to scan speed and lighting conditions. In this paper we propose boundary detection using subpixel edge detection method in order to increase the accuracy of bump faulty detection on chips. The bump edge is detected by first derivative to four directions from bump center point and the exact edge positions are searched by the subpixel method. Also, the exact bump boundary to calculate the actual bump size is computed by LSM(Least Squares Method) to minimize errors since the bump size is varied such as bump protrusion, bump bridge, and bump discoloration. Experimental results exhibit that the proposed algorithm shows large improvement comparable to the other conventional boundary detection algorithms.

Power amplifier is an essential component for transmitting signals to a remote receiver in wireless communication systems. Power amplifier is a non-linear device in general, and the nonlinear distortion becomes severer as the output power increases. The nonlinearity results in spectral regrowth, which leads to adjacent channel interference, and decreases the transmit signal quality. To linearize power amplifiers, many techniques have been developed so far. Among the techniques, digital pre-distortion is known as the most cost and performance effective technique. However, the linearization performance falls down abruptly when the power amplifier operates in its saturation region. This is because of the severe nonlinearity. To relieve this problem, this paper proposes a new adaptive predistortion technique. The proposed technique controls the adaptive algorithm based on the power amplifier input level. Specifically, for small signals, the adaptive predistortion algorithm works normally. On the contrary, for large signals, the adaptive algorithm stops until small signals occur again. By doing this, wrong coefficient update by severe nonlinearity can be avoided. Computer simulation results show that the proposed method can improve the linearization performance compared with the conventional digital predistortion algorithms.

In this paper, an inversion method using chirp signals and two near field receivers is proposed. Inversion problems can be formulated into the probabilistic models composed of signals, a forward model and noise. Forward model to simulate chirp signals is chosen to be the source-wavelet-convolution planewave modeling method. The solution of the inversion problem is defined by a posteriori pdf. The wavelet matching technique, using weighted least-squares fitting, estimates the sediment sound-speed and thickness on which determination of the ranges for a priori uniform distribution is based. The genetic algorithm can be applied to a global optimization problem to find a maximum a posteriori solution for determined a priori search space. Here the object function is defined by an L₂norm of the difference between measured and modeled signals. The observed signals can be separated into a set of two signals reflected from the upper and lower boundaries of a sediment. The separation of signals and successive applications of the genetic algorithm optimization process reduce the search space, therefore improving the inversion results. Not only the marginal pdf but also the statistics are calculated by numerical evaluation of integrals using the samples selected during importance sampling process of the genetic algorithm. The examples applied here show that, for synthetic data with noise, it is possible to carry out an inversion for sedimentary layers using the proposed inversion method.
