  • The linear Consecutive-k-out-of-n:F system consists of n component ordered linearly and fail if and only if at least k consecutive components fail. We assume that the components are independent and identical exponentially distributed. This paper develops a model to calculate the expected cost per unit time of a linear consecutive-k-out-of-n:F system. The optimization problem we consider regards the choice of the system structure parameter k to minimized the expected cost per unit time.

  • Although the corporate governance plays a crucial role in protecting shareholder wealth, the effect of corporate governance on cost of debt is unclear. On one hand, the corporate governance reduces asymmetric information between corporate and external investor including debtholder leading to a decreasing in cost of debt financing. On the other hand, bondholders require higher rate of return for an improvement corporate governance. Hence, this study aims to investigate the relationship between the mechanism to improve corporate governance namely board effectiveness and the cost of debt in an emerging market. As we aim to explore the relationship between cost of debt and board effectiveness, we select corporation in Thailand as our sample because the businesses in Thailand are major debt-financing. Hence, our sample include listed firm in Stock Exchange of Thailand between 2007 and 2016. Our main findings support the sub-optimal investment hypothesis in that improved board effectiveness is associated with higher cost of borrowing. In addition, we find that the number of board member-board size, the number of board meeting, and the percentage of non-executive on audit committee play are positively associated with the cost of debt financing. Furthermore, we perform two-stage-least square (2SLS) to ensure that our results are far from endogeneity issue.

  • Purpose: This study measures the effect of Information Technology (IT) on both cost and profit efficiency of State-owned Commercial Banks (SOCBs) in Bangladesh. Research design, data and methodology: Yearly Non-IT and IT data are collected from the annual report of SOCBs of Bangladesh from 2008 to 2017. Variable Return to Scale (VRS) cost Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Profit DEA are employed to measure the efficiency of SOCBs and Ordinary Least Square (OLS) is used to investigate the impacts of ICT components on operating cost and profit efficiency for SOCBs. Results: The average cost efficiency (74.4%) was noticed higher than the average profit efficiency (20.6%) for SOCBs. SOCBs were more affordable and less profitable for both cost and profit efficiency. Rupali bank was the most cost efficient while Sonali bank was the most profit efficient. IT Investment and IT personnel expenses were positively significant for cost efficiency. IT income, IT personnel, IT personnel expenses, ATM expenses, and Credit card expenses were negatively significant for profit efficiency. Conclusion: The further studies can combine DEA with machine learning algorithms to study the impact of IT on banks' performances. The results could aid government to remove the hindrance of progress in Bangladesh.

  • Software qualify models can predict the risk of faults in the software early enough for cost-effective prevention of problems. This paper introduces a least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) as a fuzzy regression method for predicting fault ranges in the software under development. This LS-SVM deals with the fuzzy data with crisp inputs and fuzzy output. Predicting the exact number of bugs in software is often not necessary. This LS-SVM can predict the interval that the number of faults of the program at each session falls into with a certain possibility. A case study on software reliability problem is used to illustrate the usefulness of this LS -SVM.

  • The Hough transform Is a robust technique Which Is useful in defecting straight lines in an picture. However, the extension of the conventional Hough transform to recover circles and ellipses has been limited by slow speed and excessive memory .This paper presents a method of detecting ellipses from the Image by using Least Square Method. This method Is reduced calculation cost and memory requirement .When detecting ellipse. Instead of obtaining accumulation of Hough transform for determination of ellipse parameters. particular points containing geometric properties of ellipse are selected. Parameters of the ellipse are calculated by Least Square Method using those particular points.

  • The fundamental research for the mobile robot navigation using the numerical optimization method is presented. We define the mobile robot navigation problem as an unconstrained optimization problem to minimize the cost function with the pose error between the goal position and the position of a mobile robot. Using the nonlinear least squares optimization method, the optimal speeds of the left and right wheels can be found as the solution of the optimization problem. Especially, the rotational speed of wheels of a mobile robot can be directly related to the overall speed of a mobile robot using the Jacobian derived from the kinematic model. It will be very useful for applying to the mobile robot navigation. The performance was evaluated using the simulation.

  • We present a fast 3D shape deformation method that achieves smoothly deformed result by approximating a rigid transformation based on moving least squares (MLS). Our modified MLS formulation reduces the computation cost for computing the optimal transformation of each point and still keeps the rigidity of the deformed results. Even complex geometric shapes are easily, intuitively, and interactively deformed by manipulating point and ellipsoidal handles.

  • Many algorithms to find a minimum cost design of water distribution network (WDN) have been developed during the last decades. Most of them have tried to optimize cost only while satisfying other constraining conditions. For this, a certain degree of simplification is required in their calculation process which inevitably limits the real application of the algorithms, especially, to large networks. In this paper, an optimum design method using the Genetic Algorithms (GA) is developed which is designed to increase the applicability, especially for the real world large WDN. The increased to applicability is due to the inherent characteristics of GA consisting of selection, reproduction, crossover and mutation. Just for illustration, the GA method is applied to find an optimal solution of the New York City water supply tunnel. For the calculation, the parameter of population size and generation number is fixed to 100 and the probability of crossover is 0.7, the probability of mutation is 0.01. The yielded optimal design is found to be superior to the least cost design obtained from the Linear Program method by $4.276 million.

  • Since the Internet has been widespread all over the world, it has been getting more popular. Almost every bank that runs offline business has its own Web site to provide online banking service. In this study, we developed a research model based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). We added the concepts of trust and cost to evaluate our model because trust is a major concept in adopting online service, and cost is one of the main strategies to attract customers to use online banking service. To see the validation of the model, we used partial least squares (PLS). A survey was done to gather data. The result was drawn from the model test, and we discuss it and conclude the study.

  • This study considers a linear connected-(r,s)-out-of-(m,n):F lattice system whose components are ordered like the elements of a linear (m,n )-matrix. We assume that all components are in the state 1 (operating) or 0 (failed) and identical and s-independent. The system fails whenever at least one connected (r,s)-submatrix of failed components occurs. The purpose of this paper is to present an optimization scheme that aims at minimizing the expected cost per unit time. To find the optimal threshold of maintenance intervention, we use a genetic algorithm for the cost optimization procedure. The expected cost per unit time is obtained by Monte Carlo simulation. The sensitivity analysis to the different cost parameters has also been made.
