A Designing for Successful Learning on the Web

  • Web-based learning is currently an active area of research and a considerable number of studies have been conducted on its application in the learning environment. However, in spite of many advances in the research and development of the educational contents, questions about how the environment affects learning remains largely unanswered. In this article, we propose a Web-based learning environment to improve the educational effect. The goal of this article is not to provide a complete system to support Web-based learning but rather to describe some meaningful strategies and fundamental design concepts that utilize information technologies to support teaching and learning.

EEG Asymmetry Changes by the Left and the Right SMR Brainwave of the Computer Learning Versus the Paper and Pencil Learning

  • The purpose of this study is to present the relationship between the computer learning and the paper and pencil learning through the math learning (simple computation and complex computation) and the cartoon learning and text learning. The canonical correlation and pairwise t-test of the SMR asymmetry brainwaves of the left and the right brain show the brainwaves with the respect to the manner in which they process information during the specified task by identifying the relative activity of the brainwaves of the left and the right brain. SMR brainwave which known as the scientific measure tool for the activity and the function of the neuronal cell were found to predict the level of the awakening to check the readiness of study preparation. Computer education as a medium of the individualized and the repetitive education shows the difference from the paper and the pencil test in the respect of the differences and the relationship of the SMR brainwave of the learning process.

  • We present an overview of the Extensional Object Model (ExOM) and describe in detail the learning and classification components which integrate concepts from machine learning and object-oriented databases. The ExOM emphasizes flexibility in information acquisition, learning, and classification which are useful to support tasks such as diagnosis, planning, design, and database mining. As a vehicle to integrate machine learning and databases, the ExOM supports a broad range of learning and classification methods and integrates the learning and classification components with traditional database functions. To ensure the integrity of ExOM databases, a subsumption testing rule is developed that encompasses categories defined by type expressions as well as concept definitions generated by machine learning algorithms. A prototype of the learning and classification components of the ExOM is implemented in Smalltalk/V Windows.

Relationship between Course Evaluations and Learning Achievement for the Software Lecture in General Education

  • The course evaluations was used to collect the students' opinion and verify the learning performance for a long time. However, many evaluations' methods are not consider each characteristics of the course, and many courses were presented to students with the same question for the course evaluations. This research aims to make a learning success model considering the questionnaire of course evaluations and relationship between the factors of learning and learning satisfaction/benefit. In order to make a model, we identify the items of the questionnaire and distinguish the factors considering the items. The factors are Information Quality, Knowledge Quality, System Quality and Service Quality. Consequently, the research shows the connection and relationship between them and learning satisfaction/benefit.

  • 오늘날 컴퓨터와 네트워킹의 향상된 기술을 이용하여 학습하는 e-learning이 제공되며 앞으로 수요는 늘어날 것으로 예상된다. e-learning이 성공하기 위해서는 사용자에게 개인화된 학습 제공이 중요하며 개인화된 학습을 제공하기 위한 e-learning이 연구되고 있다. 논문에서는 프로그래밍 학습을 위한 e-learning을 고려한다. 프로그래밍의 이해를 높이려는 연구는 계속되어 왔으나 프로그램의 부분적인 이해를 높이는 연구만이 이루어지고 있다. 논문에서는 프로그램 실행의 시각화를 통해 프로그램의 전체적인 실행 과정에 대한 이해를 높여 주는 시스템을 개발한다.

Development and Application of Failure-Based Learning Conceptual Model for Construction Education

  • Recent demands from construction industry have emphasized the capability for graduates to have improved skills both technical and non-technical such as problem solving, interpersonal communication. To satisfy these demands, problem-based learning that is an instructional method characterized by the use of real world problem has been adopted and has proven its effectiveness various disciplines. However, in spite of the importance of field senses and dealing with real problem, construction engineering education has generally focused on traditional lecture-oriented course. In order to improve limitations of current construction education and to satisfy recent demands from construction industry, this paper proposes a new educational approach that is Failure-Based Learning for using combination of the procedural characteristics of the problem-based learning theory in construction technology education utilizing failure information that has the educational value in the construction area by reinterpreting characteristics of construction industry and construction failure information. The major results of this study are summarized as follows. 1) Educational effect of problem-based learning methodology and limitation of application in construction area 2) The educational value of the information on construction failure and limitation in application of the information in construction sector 3) Anticipated effect from application of the failure-based learning 4) Development and application of the failure-based learning conceptual model.

자기조직화 신경회로망의 학습능률 향상에 관한 연구 (On the enhancement of the learning efficiency of the self-organization neural networks)

  • 신경회로망의 학습은 신경사이의 연결강도 갱신과정으로 이루어진다. 이때, 학습계수를 잘못 설정하였을 경우, 과도한 학습 횟수를 요하거나, 올바른 학습을 수행하지 못하게 된다. 패턴분류에 자주 이용되는 코호넨 신경회로망의 경우 고정된 학습계수를 사용하여 연결강도를 일률적으로 갱신하는 방식을 취함으로서 학습효율을 저하시키는 문제점이 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 코호넨 신경회로망의 학습효율을 향상시키기 위하여 학습계수를 입력벡터와 연결강도 벡터의 차에 따라 가변적으로 적응하는 자율학습 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 제안된 학습 알고리즘의 검증을 위하여 온라인 필기체의 표준 획 분류에 적용하였다. 그 결과 약 1.44~3.65% 정도의 학습 효율이 향상됨을 고찰하였다.

Assessing the Effectiveness of Smartphone Usage to Interact with Learning Materials in Independent Learning Outside of Classrooms among Undergraduate Students

  • Clearly, the smartphone is increasingly playing a greater role in everyday life, thus providing opportunities to evaluate how well the use of the smartphone meets the requirements of undergraduate students in independent learning outside of a classroom setting. This study used the task-technology fit (TTF) model to explore the effectiveness of smartphone usage to interact with learning materials in independent learning outside of classrooms, the need for smartphone support, and the fit of devices to tasks as well as performance. First, the study used interviews, observation, and survey data to identify what are the most important constructs of smartphones that stimulate students to interact with learning materials in independent learning outside of classrooms. Based on the findings from the exploratory study and Task Technology Fit theory, we postulated the Navigation design, Ergonomic design, Content support, and Capacity as the essential dimension of the smartphone construct. Then, we proposed a research model and empirically tested hypotheses with the structural model analysis. The results reveal a significant positive impact of task and technology on TTF for smartphone usage to interact with learning materials in independent learning outside of classrooms; it also confirmed the TTF and performance have a direct effect on actual use.

문제중심학습을 적용한 초등학교 정보 역기능 예방 교육의 효과 (The Effect of Problem-Based Learning Education on the Dysfunction of Information in Elementary School)

  • 본 연구는 문제중심학습을 정보 역기능 예방 학습에 적용하여 문제중심학습이 초등학교의 정보 역기능 대처 능력과 ICT 활용 능력, 학습 성취도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 규명한 연구이다. 이를 위해 문제중심학습을 적용한 초등학교 정보 역기능 예방 수업을 설계하고 문제중심학습 수업의 실험집단과 전통적 수업의 비교집단으로 나누어 실제 수업에 적용한다. 문제중심학습 수업이 정보 역기능 대처 능력과 ICT 활용 능력에 함양하고 학습 성취도에 어떤 효과가 있는지 확인한다. 본 연구는 정보 역기능 예방 교육을 위한 수업 방법의 개선에 교사들에게 의미 있는 정보를 제공하고 아동들이 정보 역기능에 대한 올바른 이해와 예방 의식을 가지도록 하는데 의의가 있다.
