  • The fiber reinforced composite material is widely used in the multi-industrial field where the weight reduction of the infrastructure is demanded because of their high specific modulus and specific strength. Pressure vessels using this composite material in comparison with conventional metal vessels can be applied in the field where lightweight and the high pressure is demanded from the defense and aerospace industry to rocket motor case due to the merits which are energy curtailment by the weight reduction and decrease of explosive damage precede to the sudden explosion which is generated by the pressure leakage condition. In this paper, for nonlinear finite element analysis of E-glass/epoxy filament winding composite pressure vessel receiving an internal pressure, the standard interpretation model is developed by using the ANSYS 5.7.1, the general commercial program, which is verified as the accuracy and useful characteristic of the solution based on Auto LISP and ANSYS APDL. Both the preprocessor for doing exclusive analysis of filament winding composite pressure vessel and postprocessor that simplifies result of analysis have been developed to help the design engineers.

  • In this work, experimental errors from an impact hammer test were investigated to develop a statistic-based technique for updating a finite element model. Digital signal processing was analyzed by using theoretical models and experiments when errors occurred during the experimental procedure. First, the duration time and peak level of the excitation signal, the stiffness and position of elastic springs connecting the specimen as well as the support, position and mass of the accelerometer were considered as error factors during the experiment. Then the picket fence effect, leakage, and exponential window function were considered as candidate error factors during the digital signal processing. Finally, methods to reduce errors are suggested.

  • Model studies on the response of homgeneous earth embankment dams subjected to strike-slip fault movement have been penomed via centrifuge and finite element analysis. The centrifuge model tests have shown that crack development in earth embankment experiences two major patters: shear failure deep inside the embankment and tension failure near the surface. The shear rupture zone develops from the base level and propagates upward continuously in the transverse direction but allows no open leakage chnnel. The open tensile cracks develop near the surface of the embankment, but they disappear deep in the embankment. The functional relationship has been developed based on the results of the centrifuge model tests incorporating tile variables of amount of fault movement, embankment geometry, and crack propagation extent in earth des. This set of information can be used as a guide line to evaluate a "transient" safety of the duaged embankment subjected to strike-slip fault movement. The finite element analysis has supplemented the additional expluations on crack development behavior identified from the results of the centrifuge model tests. The bounding surface time-independent plasticity soil model was employed in the numerical analysis. Due to the assumption of continuum in the current version of the 3-D FEM code, the prediction of the soil structure response beyond the failure condition was not quantitatively accurate. However, the fundamental mechanism of crack development was qualitatively evaluated based on the stress analysis for the deformed soil elements of the damaged earth embankment. The tensile failure zone is identified when the minor principal stress of the deformed soil elements less than zero. The shear failure zone is identified when the stress state of the deformed soil elements is at the point where the critical state line intersects the bounding surface.g surface.

  • Structural analysis is performed to design anchor straps for a large-scale-liquefied-natural-gas (LNG) storage tank with corner protection and an inner tank by considering structural integrity. Anchor straps made of 9% nickel steel are attached to the inner tank, corner protection, and concrete raft to prevent the failure of the inner tank during both normal and emergency operating conditions. Two finite element (FE) models were analyzed in this study. One is a stand-alone model of the anchor strap, while the other is an extended model of the substructure of the anchor strap, inner tank, and corner protection. Three-dimensional shell elements are used to effectively assess the bending and axial behavior of structures. The Tresca stress values in each part of the two models are calculated for operation under five different load-condition cases: normal operation, leakage of the LNG, hydro test, and two earthquake conditions.

  • A rubber seal for wheel bearing which has been mainly applied to car wheel supporting device is required to have both high sealing performance and drag torque. Because of severe operational conditions like infiltration of mud or splashed water, the importance of rubber seal which is aimed for leakage prevention of grease and effective blocking of foreign substances has been increasing continuously. The sealing performance of this seal depends on several factors such as materials of seal, friction conditions of contact regions and geometry of seals and so on. We have focused on the effects of geometric characteristics such as the angle of main lip, interference between lip edge and inner metallic ring. In this study, the optimization of geometric variables was performed using the finite element analysis. For the sake of finite element analysis, uniaxial tensile tests were conducted and several constants for Mooney-Rivlin's equation were obtained. According to the results of this study, mock-up bearing was made. To verify this study, drag torque and mud spray test were preformed.

  • Recently, fan out wafer level packaging, which enables high integration, miniaturization, and low cost, is being rapidly applied in the semiconductor industry. In particular, FOWLP is attracting attention in the mobile and Internet of Things fields, and is recognized as a core technology that will lead to technological advancements such as 5G, self-driving cars, and artificial intelligence in the future. However, as chip density and package size within the package increase, FOWLP warpage is emerging as a major problem. These problems have a direct impact on the reliability and electrical performance of semiconductor products, and in particular, cause defects such as vacuum leakage in the manufacturing process or lack of focus in the photolithography process, so technical demands for solving them are increasing. In this paper, warpage simulation according to the thickness of FOWLP material was performed using finite element analysis. The thickness range was based on the history of similar packages, and as a factor causing warpage, the curing temperature of the materials undergoing the curing process was applied and the difference in deformation due to the difference in thermal expansion coefficient between materials was used. At this time, the stacking order was reflected to reproduce warpage behavior similar to reality. After performing finite element analysis, the influence of each variable on causing warpage was defined, and based on this, it was confirmed that warpage was controlled as intended through design modifications.

  • In the high information societies, the requirement of encryption security is increasing so as to protect information from the threat of attacks by illegal changes of data, illegal leakage of data, disorder of data sequences and the unauthorized sender and an unauthorized receiver etc. In this paper, multivariable knapsack crytosystem is proposed for security of computer communication. This system is securer and simpler than the conventional knapsack cryptosystems. And, proposed cryptosystem composed what represented each element of superincreasing vector with multivar able polynomial after transforming it of ciphervector. For the deciphering of ciphertext, the plaintext is determined by using the integers of secret and the superincreasing vector of secret key. Thus, the stability of this cryptosystem is based on the difficulty of obtaining the root that ciphervector becomes the superincreasing vector, in substituting the integers of secret for ciphervector to represent with the miltivariable polynomial. The propriety of proposed multivariable knapsack cryptosystem was proved through computer simulation.

  • This paper proposes a hybrid-excited linear synchronous motor (LSM) that has potential applications in a magnetically levitated vehicle. The levitation and thrust force characteristics of the LSM are investigated by means of three-dimensional (3-D) numerical electromagnetic FEM calculations and experimental verification. Compared to a conventional LSM with electromagnets, a hybrid-excited LSM can improve levitation force/weight ratios, and reduce the power consumption of the vehicle. Because the two-dimensional (2-D) FE analysis model describes only the center section of the physical device, it cannot express the complex behavior of leakage flux, which this study is able to predicts along with levitation and thrust force characteristics by 3-D FEM calculations. A static force tester for a hybrid-excited LSM has been manufactured and tested in order to verify these predictions. The experimental results confirm the validity of the 3-D FEM calculation scheme for the description of a hybrid-excited LSM.

  • This paper deals with the levitation force characteristics of electromagnet for MAGLEV vehicle application. The magnetic flux density distribution and levitation force characteristics of the electromagnet are investigated by means of equivalent magnetic circuit model. Firstly, we defined the aligned and unaligned electromagnet module for the full-electromagnet, and magnetic flux paths are represented for each model including leakage and fringing flux paths. Because of the analysis model contains both the permanent magnet and electromagnet coil, we calculated the airgap magnetic flux density and levitation forces using flux superposition in electromagnetic circuit. The results are validated extensively by comparison with finite element analysis. Moreover, the 1/4 scaled magnetic levitation and propulsion test vehicle has been manufactured and tested in order to verify these predictions. The experimental results confirms the validity of the analytical prediction with equivalent magnetic circuit model for the description of a electromagnet.
