Safety management has become even more important because of the safety and environmental issues that have arisen since the 2000s. However, the safety study requires many empirical data, so there are many limitations. In the case of pipe safety, simulation programs exist, but it is difficult to get data about the pipe internal erosion of the pipe. In this study, the erosion rate of the pipe elbow was simulated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Also, the failure period of the pipe was calculated by the limit state function using erosion rate. In the case of CFD pipe, a sample which is actually operated in Yeosu industrial complex was used, and the geometry and mesh formation were rationalized in terms of typical fluid dynamics simulations. Using the Discrete Phase Model (DPM) and the corrosion model, the erosion rate ($3.09227mm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$) was obtained from CFD simulations. As a result of applying the erosion rate to the limit state function, we obtained the pipe failure period value, 14.2 years to trigger a leak and 28.2 years to trigger a burst. Through these processes, we concluded that pipe erosion is one of the major failure modes. In addition to the results, this study has significance for suggesting the methodology of the pipe safety study.

This paper describes the design, fabrication and characteristics of a micromachined piezoelectric valve utilizing a multilayer ceramic actuator (MCA). The micromachined MCA valve, which uses a buckling effect, consists of three separate structures: the MCA, the valve actuator die and the seat die. The valve seat die with 6 trenches was made, and the actuator die, which is driven by the MCA under optimized conditions, was also fabricated. After Si wafer direct bonding between the seat die and the actuator die, the MCA was also anodically bonded to the seat/actuator die structure. A polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) sealing pad was fabricated to minimize the leak rate. Finally, the PDMS sealing pad was also bonded to the seat die and the stainless steel package. The MCA valve shows a flow rate of 9.13 sccm at an applied DC voltage of 100 V with a 50% duty cycle and a maximum non-linearity of 2.24% FS. Therefore, the fabricated MCA valve is suitable for a variety of flow control equipment, as a medical bio-system and in the automobile industry.
The object of this paper is to identify the key elements that impact a radiation dose at EAB (Exclusion Area Boundary). This study is based on the AST (Alternative Source Terms) as defined in Regulatory Guide 1.183. The LOCA (Loss of Coolant Accident) and the LRA (Locked Rotor Accident) are selected as limiting cases. A sensitivity analysis of accidental behavior with respect to various parameters during LOCA and LRA at Kori Unit 1 is also undertaken for the following objectives: to determine the limiting parameters, to find the impact trend of the radiation dose, and to find the safety margin between AST and TID (Technical Information Document) methodologies. This work confirms that key parameters are particulate removal rate, decontamination factor, iodine chemical form, gap fraction, partitioning factor, and the impact of isotopes group. Comparing TID with AST, the radiation dose of TID is about 80% greater than that of AST under a LOCA, and about 60% greater than that of AST for the case of a LRA; thus the safety margin is remarkably increased when the AST is used. In this work, the sensitivity analysis results are presented in terms of a sensitivity index called the "NDD (Normalized Dose Difference)", which compares the impact of parameters with that of a reference case. These values are derived by using a combination of the leak rate (primary to secondary), iodine chemical form, gap fraction, partitioning factor, spray removal rate, source term, and other variables.

Water pipeline network in local and metropolitan area is buried underground, by which it is hard to know the degree of pipe aging and leakage. In this study, assuming various sensor combinations installed in the water pipeline network, the optimal algorithm was derived by predicting the water flow rate and pressure through artificial intelligence algorithms such as linear regression and neuro fuzzy analysis to examine the possibility of detecting pipe leakage according to the data combination. In the case of leakage detection through water supply pressure prediction, Neuro fuzzy algorithm was superior to linear regression analysis. In case of leakage detection through water supply flow prediction, flow rate prediction using neuro fuzzy algorithm should be considered first. If flow meter for prediction don't exists, linear regression algorithm should be considered instead for pressure estimation.

There are two methods for conducting the containment local leakage rate test (LLRT) in nuclear power plants: the make-up flow rate method and the pressure decay method. The make-up flow rate method is applied first in most power plants. In this method, the leakage rate is measured by checking the flow rate of the make-up flow. However, when it is difficult to maintain the test pressure because of excessive leakage, the pressure decay method can be used as a complementary method, as the leakage rates at pressures lower than normal can be measured using this method. We studied the method of measuring over leakage using the pressure decay method for conducting the LLRT for the containment building at a nuclear power plant. We performed experiments under conditions similar to those during an LLRT conducted on-site. We measured the characteristics of the leakage rate under varies pressure decay conditions, and calculated the compensation ratio based on these data.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the surgical outcome of duodenal injuries and to analyze the risk factors related to the leakage after surgical treatment. Methods: A retrospective review of 31 patients with duodenal injuries who managed by surgical treatment was conducted from December 2000 to May 2014. The demographic characteristics, injury mechanism, site of duodenal injury, association of intraabdominal organ injuries, injury severity score (ISS), abdominal abbreviated injury scale (AIS), injury-operation time lag, surgical treatment methods, complications, and mortality were reviewed. Results: Duodenal injury was more common in male. Twenty four (77.4%) patients were injured by blunt trauma. The most common injury site was in the second portion of the duodenum (n=19, 58.6%). Fourteen patients (45.2%) had other associated intraabdominal organ injuries. The mean ISS is $13.6{\pm}9.6$. The mean AIS is $8.9{\pm}6.5$. Eighteen patients (58.1%) were treated by primary closure. The remaining 13 patients underwent various operations, including exploratory laparotomy (n=4), pancreaticoduodenectomy (n=3), pyloric exclusion (n=3), Resection with end-to-end anastomosis (n=2), and duodenojejunostomy (n=1). Most common postoperative complications were intraabdominal abscess (n=9) and renal failure (n=9). Mortality rate was 9.7%. Conclusion: ISS, AIS>10, operative time, pancreaticoduodenectomy, sepsis, and renal failure are significant predictors of a postoperative leak after duodenal injury. Careful management is needed to prevent a potential leak in patient with these findings.
In the sodium-cooled fast reactor, the steam generator is a heat exchange device between sodium and water, which may cause leakage, resulting in a sodium-water reaction accident, which in turn affects the safe operation of the entire nuclear reactor. To this end, the electromagnetic vortex flowmeter is used to detect leakage of the steam generator and its signal processing method is studied in this paper. The hydraulic experiment was carried out by using water instead of liquid sodium, and the sensor output signal of the electromagnetic vortex flowmeter under different gas injection volumes was collected. The bubble noise signal is reflected by the base line of the sensor output signal. According to the relationship between the proportion of the bubble noise signal in the sensor output signal and the gas injection volume, a signal processing method based on the energy ratio calculation is proposed to detect whether the water contains bubbles. The gas injection experiment of liquid sodium was conducted to verify the effectiveness of the signal processing method in the detection of bubbles in sodium, and the minimum detectable leak rate of water in the steam generator was detected to be 0.2 g/s.

In this paper, mechanical reliability issues of copper through-wafer interconnections are investigated numerically and experimentally. A hermetic wafer level packaging for MEMS devices is developed. Au-Sn eutectic bonding technology is used to achieve hermetic sealing, and the vertical through-hole via filled with electroplated copper for the electrical connection is also used. The MEMS package has the size of $1mm{\times}1mm{\times}700{\mu}m$. The robustness of the package is confirmed by several reliability tests. Several factors which could induce via hole cracking failure are investigated such as thermal expansion mismatch, via etch profile, and copper diffusion phenomenon. Alternative electroplating process is suggested for preventing Cu diffusion and increasing the adhesion performance of the electroplating process. After implementing several improvements, reliability tests were performed, and via hole cracking as well as significant changes in the shear strength were not observed. Helium leak testing indicated that the leak rate of the package meets the requirements of MIL-STD-883F specification.

In this study, we carry out reliability tests and investigate the failure mechanisms of the anodically bonded wafer level vacuum packaging (WLVP) MEMS gyroscope sensor. There are three failure mechanisms of WLVP: leakage, permeation and out-gassing. The leakage is caused by small dimension of the leak channel through the bonding interface and internal defects. The larger bonding width and the use of single crystalline silicon can reduce the leak rate. Silicon and glass wafer itself generates a large amount of outgassing including $H_2O$, $C_3H_5$, $CO_2$, and organic gases. Epi-poly wafer generates 10 times larger amount of outgassing than SOI wafer. The sandblasting process in the glass increases outgassing substantially. Outgassing can be minimized by pre-baking of the wafer in the vacuum oven before bonding process. An optimum pre-baking temperature of the wafers would be between $400^{\circ}C$ and $500^{\circ}C$.

New nondestructive inspection (NDI) technique to detect the defect in metal was developed in which an electromagnetic field is induced in a metal by AC current flowing in the magnetic coil and the leak magnetic-flux disturbed by defects is measured using a tape-recorder head with air gap. This technique can be applied in evaluating the location and sizing of surface defects in components of the ferromagnetic body by means of the non-contacting measurement. In this paper, we have applied this technique to the evaluation of two-dimensional surface cracks in ferromagnetic metal, and also investigated the influence of the various frequencies and lift-off. Defects were detected with maximum values in the distribution of voltage and it was found that the maximum values tend to increase with the defect depth. Although the maximum values for defects are affected by the frequency and lift-off, the depth of small defects can be estimated from the linear relationship between the depth and voltage rate$(V_0/V_{ave})$.
