  • The information display industry this century has to improve our life without increasing energy consumption. Suftla technology together with high-performance silicon thin film transistors (TFTs) and ink-jet technology for forming metal-wiring and organic TFTs will play leading roles for achieving this requirement. In this paper these technologies are reviewed and the concept of the information displays in near future is discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify antecedent variables that affect emotional labor. The results are as follows. First, display rules positively affected deep acting and negatively affected surface acting. Second, customer contact time positively affected deep acting but did not affect surface acting. Third, the interaction between display rules and customer contact time did not have significant effects on surface acting but negatively affected deep acting. The implications based on these results are as follows. First, theoretically, this study extends the range of leading variables that affect emotional labor and verifies the moderation effects between these variables. Next, practically, this study suggests that presenting harmonious criteria with regards to display rules and customer contact time that fit well into the concept of food service company is a very useful tool to manage emotional labor of the employees. The limitation of this study is that the causal relationship between variables demonstrated in this study cannot be generalized due to convenience sampling and cross sectional research.

  • Polyimide thin film was prepared by annealing the polyamic acid that was synthesized through co-deposition of diamine and dianhydride. The polyamic acid and polyimide thin film were characterized with FT-IR and HR FE-SEM. The average roughness of the film surface, evaluated with AFM, were 0.385 nm and 0.299 nm after co-deposition, and annealing at 120 ℃ respectively. OLED was passivated with the polyimide layer of 200 nm thickness. While the inorganic passivation layer enhances the WVTR of OLED, the organic passivation layer gives flexibility to the OLED. The in-situ passivation of OLED with organic thin film layer provides the leading technique to develop flexible OLED Display.

  • We investigated the mechanism of mobility enhancement after the dehydrogenation process in polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin films. The dehydrogenation process was performed by using an in-situ CVD chamber in a $N_2$ ambient or an ex-situ furnace in air ambient. We observed that the dehydrogenated poly-Si in a $N_2$ ambient had a lower oxygen concentration than the dehydrogenated poly-Si annealed in an air ambient. The in-situ dehydrogenation increased the (111) preferred orientation of poly-Si and reduced the oxygen concentration in poly-Si thin films, leading to a reduction of the trap density near the valence band. This phenomenon gave rise to an increase of the field-effect mobility of the poly-Si thin film transistor.

  • The parasitic capacitance between the high voltage electrodes and the backlight housing causes lowering lamp current, electric power leakage, and leading to lower brightness and efficiency in a multi-lamps backlight. In this study a new center balance swing operation method is introduced to be minimizing those housing effects.

  • In this article, we review the study trends of three-dimensional (3D) displays that can display stereoscopic images from the perspective of a display device. 3D display technology can be divided into light field, holographic, and volume displays. Light field display is a display that can reproduce the intensity and direction of light or 'ray' in each pixel. It can display stereoscopic images with less information than a holographic display and does not require coherence of the light source. Therefore, it is expected that it will be commercialized before the holographic display. Meanwhile, the holographic display creates a stereoscopic image by completely reproducing the wavefront of an image using diffraction in terms of wave characteristics of light. This technology is considered to be able to obtain the most complete stereoscopic image, and the digital holographic display using a spatial light modulator (SLM) is expected to be the ultimate stereoscopic display. However, the digital holographic display still experiences the problem of a narrow viewing angle due to the finite pixel pitch of the SLM. Therefore, various attempts have been made at solving this problem. Volumetric display is a technology that directly creates a stereoscopic image by forming a spatial pixel, which is known as a volumetric pixel, in a physical space, and has a significant advantage in that it can easily solve the problem of the viewing angle. This technology has already been tested for commercial purposes by several leading companies. In this paper, we will examine recent research trends regarding these 3D displays and near-eye display that is emerging as a significant application field of these technologies.

  • We describe a unique process based on colloidal self-assembly that results in a uniform (almost hexagonally close-packed) layer of liquid crystal domains over large areas leading to single-substrate cholesteric LCDs with low switching voltages, excellent contrast, and high brightness. Extension to guest-host LCDs is also discussed.

  • Starting with cathode ray tubes, displays are forming markets in the order of active marix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) after PDP (Plasma Display Panel) and LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). OLED is recognized as a key field for the development of each country preparing for the fourth industrial revolution, and especially Samsung Display and LG Display, which are the top industries in Korea, are leading the market with more than 90% of OLED shares. Currently, AMOLED has moved to the area that can be folded or bent. This technology is possible because TFT (Thin Film Transistor) and OLED may be formed on a flexible substrate. In the future, the technology will move to stretchable displays, and for this, the development of substrate materials is first, and then TFT and OLED devices should also be implemented with stretchable materials.

  • Low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) technology has continued to mature with the passing of each year since LTPS mass production began. The integration of complex circuits has become possible with advances in microprocessing, leading to the realization of panels with highly advanced functions. At the same time, efforts have been made to meet market demands for lower costs, thereby boosting competitive strength. Today, LTPS-TFT LCDs have become standard equipment for the monitors of digital still cameras, and inroads are being made into the massive cellular phone market. Micro displays such as electronic viewfinders, which were previously only possible with high-temperature polysilicon technology, can now also be made with LTPS, thus expanding the scope of the technology. AMOLED displays using the LTPS-TFT as a back plane are also approaching the stage of industrialization. The hidden potential for the OLED to replace the familiar LCD has prompted Widespread anticipation for this emerging technology. This paper reflects on the history of LTPS technology, then looks forward to its future prospects and suggests a variety of potential fields of application.

  • Image display is the last step of imaging chain in which the diagnostic information is transformed into perceivable intensities and transformed to observer's eye-brain system. In this process, a certain part of information may be efficiently transfered and another part may be inefficiently transfered leading to information loss. In this study, the visual perceptual properties of image display on CRT monitor has been investigated. Psychophysical experiment of target image detection has been performed using CRT monitor for various background grey levels, and the threshold difference grey levels required for visual discrimination have been predicted by computer simulation with visual model.
