In this report, the contact resistance between "electrode" and "lead" is investigated for reasonable measurements of samples' resistance in a polypyrrole (PPy) nanowire device. The sample's resistance, including "electrode-lead" contact resistance, shows a decrease as force applied to the interface increases. Moreover, the sample's resistance becomes reasonably similar to, or lower than, values calculated by resistivity of PPy reported in previous studies. The decrease of electrode-lead contact resistance by increasing the applying force was analyzed by using Holm theory: the general equation of relation between contact resistance ($R_H$) of two-metal thin films and contact force ($R_H{\propto}1/\sqrt{F}$). The present investigation can guide a reliable way to minimize electrode-lead contact resistance for reasonable characterization of nanomaterials in a microelectrode device; 80% of the maximum applying force to the junction without deformation of the apparatus shows reasonable values without experimental error.
This paper proposes an error compensation method that improves accuracy with geometry information of injection molding parts. Geometric information can give an improved accuracy in reverse engineering. Measuring data can not lead to get accurate geometric model, including errors of physical parts and measuring machines. Measuring data include errors which can be classified into two types. One is molding error in product, the other is measuring error. Measuring error includes optical error of laser scanner, deformation by probe forces of CMM and machine error. It is important to compensate these in reverse engineering. Least square method(LSM) provides the cloud data with a geometry compensation, improving accuracy of geometry. Also, the functional shape of a part and design concept can be reconstructed by error compensation using geometry information.
The growing need for higher precision and productivity in manufacturing industry has lead to an increased interest in computer numerical control (CNC) systems. It is well known fact that the cross-coupling controller (CCC) is an effective method for contouring applications. In this paper, a multi-axis contour error controller (CEC) based on a contour error vector using parametric curve interpolator is introduced. The contour error vector is a vector from the actual tool position to the nearest point on the desired path. The contour error vector is the closest error model to the contour error. The simulation results show that the CEC is more accurate than the conventional CCC for a biaxial motion system. In addition, the experimental results on 3-axis motion system show that the CEC is simply applied to 3-axis motions and contouring accuracy is significantly improved.
In this study, a new consensus technique for predicting tropical cyclone (TC) intensity in the western North Pacific was developed. The most important feature of the present consensus model is to select and combine the guidance numerical models with the best performance in the previous years based on various evaluation criteria and averaging methods. Specifically, the performance of the guidance models was evaluated using both the mean absolute error and the correlation coefficient for each forecast lead time, and the number of the numerical models used for the consensus model was not fixed. In averaging multiple models, both simple and weighted methods are used. These approaches are important because that the performance of the available guidance models differs according to forecast lead time and is changing every year. In particular, this study develops both a multi-consensus model (M-CON), which constructs the best consensus models with the lowest error for each forecast lead time, and a single best consensus model (S-CON) having the lowest 72-hour cumulative mean error, through on training process. The evaluation results of the selected consensus models for the training and forecast periods reveal that the M-CON and S-CON outperform the individual best-performance guidance models. In particular, the M-CON showed the best overall performance, having advantages in the early stages of prediction. This study finally suggests that forecaster needs to use the latest evaluation results of the guidance models every year rather than rely on the well-known accuracy of models for a long time to reduce prediction error.
Main sources of the vibration in gear driving system are transmission error and backlash. Transmission error is the difference of the rotation between driving and driven gear due to tooth deformation and profile error. Vibro-impacts induced by backlash between meshing gears lead to excessive vibration and noise in many geared rotation systems. Nonlinear dynamic characteristics of the gear driving system due to transmi- ssion error and backlash are investigated. Transmission error is calculated for spur gear. Nonlinear equation of motion for the gear driving system is developed with the calculated transmission error and backlash. Numerical analysis of the equation and the experimental results show the existence of meshing frequency, superharmonic compon- ents. Instability of the gear driving motion is found on the basis of Mathieu equation. Rattle vibration due to backlash is also discussed on the basis if nonlinear jump phenomenon.
This study proposes a new screw measurement system that is capable of measuring the pitch or lead of a screw, which is one of the most important parameters representing the screw quality. There are various conventional methods for screw measurement including some mechanical and optical ones, but they can not be applied to measure the lead except the profiles or sizes. The newly suggested method is able to measure the pitch or lead directly. This is executed by scanning the thread with a digital probe while the target screw rotates. The devised measurement system is a integrated computer system which is composed of a stepping motor, a digital linear gauge and a chuck device for holding the measured screw. In order to operate the system effectively and conveniently, a computer program having graphical user interface facility is developed. Some experiments were done to prove the effectiveness of the system.
The amount of safety stock is decided from various information such as the forecasted demand, the lead time, the size of the order quantity and the desired service level. There are two cases to consider the problem of setting safety stock when both the demand in a period and the lead time are characterized as random variables: the first case is the parameters of the demand and lead time distributions are known, the second case is they are unknown and must be estimated. The objective of this study is to present the procedure for setting safety stocks in the case the parameters of the demand and lead time distributions are unknown and must be estimated. In this study, a simple exponential smoothing model is used. to generate the estimates of demand in each period and a discrete distribution of the lead time is developed from historical data, and the optimal service level is used which determined to consider both of a backorder and lost sale.
Recently, production technique and property of the High-Temperature Superconductor (HTS) tape have been improved. Thus, the study on applying an HTS magnet to the high magnetic field application is rapidly increased. A Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometer requires high magnitude and homogeneous of central magnetic field. However, the HTS magnet has fabrication errors because shape of HTS is tape and HTS magnet is manufactured by winding HTS tape to the bobbin. The fabrication errors are winding error, bobbin diameter error, spacer thickness error and so on. The winding error occurs when HTS tape is departed from the arranged position on the bobbin. The bobbin diameter and spacer thickness error occur since the diameter of bobbin and spacer are inaccurate. These errors lead magnitude and homogeneity of central magnetic field to be different from its ideal design. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of winding error, bobbin diameter error and spacer thickness error on the central field and field homogeneity of HTS magnet using the virtual NMR signals in MATLAB simulation.
Williams, M K., King, E., and Walford, Joan (1969). Brit. J. industr. Med., 26, 202-216. An investigation of lead absorption in an electric accumulator factory with the use of personal samplers. Thirty-nine lead workers and controls, in stable conditions of exposure, each wore personal lead-in-air samplers daily for two weeks. During the second week samples for blood lead, urinary lead, urinary coproporphyrin, urinary $\gamma$-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), the punctate basophil count, and haemoglobin were taken daily. Duplicate estimations were made on one day. The lead exposures of men doing almost identical jobs differed by ratios of up to four to one. This could be attributed on y to personal differences in working habits. The correlation coefficients and regression equations of the biochemical tests with lead-in-air and with each other were determined. The mean values and $95\%$ confidence limits of single determinations of some of the biochemical tests corresponding to the two commonly accepted TLVs of lead-in-air (0-20 and 0-15 mg./$m^{3}$) were calculated from the regression equations. For each biochemical test the variation due to analytical error, the variation from day to day within subjects and the residual variation about the regression on lead-in-air were calculated. Previous estimates of the latter are not known. Excessive confidence may be placed in an index of exposure due to its low coefficient of variation within subjects unless the coefficient of variation between subjects about regression is taken into account. The correction for specific gravity of estimations of lead and ALA in spot samples of urine was found to reduce slightly the residual variation between subjects about the regression on lead-in-air and to increase the correlations with lead-in-air and with the other biochemical tests, but these changes were not statistically significant. The modified method used for estimating blood lead and urinary lead is described and validated.
This study was to develop a simulation model of a compound planetary gear reducer for the final driving shaft using a gear analysis software (KISSsoft, Version 2017, KISSsoft AG, Switzerland). The aim of this study is to analyze transmission error and the tooth load distribution through micro-geometry using the simulation model. The tip and root relief were modified with Micro-geometry in the profile direction, and crowning was modified with Micro-geometry in the lead direction. The transmission error was analyzed using the PPTE (Peak to Peak Transmission Error) value, and the tooth load distribution was analyzed for the concentrated stress on the tooth surface. As a result of modifying tip and relief in the profile direction, the transmission error was reduced up to 40.7%. In the case of modifying crowning in the lead direction, the tooth load was more evenly distributed than before and decreased the stress on the tooth surface. After modifying the profile direction for the 1st and 2nd planetary gear train, the bending and contact safety factors were increased by 31.7% and 17%, and 18.3% and 12.5% respectively. Moreover, the bending and safety factors after modifying lead direction were increased by 59.5% and 32.7%, respectively for the 1st planetary gear train, and 59.6% and 43.6%, respectively for the 2nd planetary gear train. In future studies, the optimal design of a compound planetary gear reducer for the final driving shaft is needed considering both the transmission error and tooth load distribution.
