  • Ternary blends of poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA), poly(${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone) (PCL) and polyethylene oxide (PEO) were produced with different concentrations of components via melt blending. By leaching the PEO from the samples by water, porous materials were obtained with potential application for bio scaffolds. Sample porosity was evaluated by calculating the ratio of porous scaffold density (${\rho}^*$) to the non-porous material density (${\rho}_s$). Highest porosity (51.42%) was related to the samples containing 50 wt%. of PEO. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies showed the best porosity resulted by decreasing PLLA/PCL ratio at constant concentration of PEO. Crystallization behavior of the ternary blend samples was studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Results revealed that the crystallinity of PLLA was improved by addition of PEO and PCL to the samples. The porosity plays a key role in governing the compression properties. Mechanical properties are presented by Gibson-Ashby model.

  • Monodispersed Ag/$TiO_2$ core/shell nanoparticles were synthesized in solution via colloid-seeded deposition process using Ag nanoparticles as colloid seeds and $Ti(SO_4)_2$ as Ti-source respectively. Silver nitrate was reduced to Ag nanoparticles with $N_2H_4{\cdot}H_2O$ in the presence of CTAB as stabilizing agent. The titania sols hydrolyzed by the $Ti(SO_4)_2$ solution deposited on the surface of Ag nanoparticles to form the Ag/$TiO_2$ core/shell nanoparticles. Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) showed low amount of Ag ion leaching from the Ag/$TiO_2$ core/shell nanoparticles. The Ag/$TiO_2$ core/shell nanoparticles indicated excellent antibacterial effects against Escherichia coli and maintained long-term antibacterial property.

  • Cost-effective purification methods of silicon were carried out in order to replace the conventional Siemens method for solar grade silicon. Firstly, acid leaching which is a hydrometallurgical process was preceded with grinded silicon powders of metallurgical grade (~99% purity) to remove metallic impurities. Then, plasma treatments were performed with the leached silicon powders of 99.94% purity by argon plasma at 30 kW power under atmospheric pressure. Plasma treatment was specifically efficient for removing Zr, Y, and P but not for Al and B. Another purification step by EB treatment was also studied for the 99.92% silicon lump which resulted in the fast removal of boron and aluminum. That means the two methods are effective alternative tools for removing the doping elements like boron and phosphor.

  • This study was surveyed to examine the removable ability of residual aluminum with the coagulants(LAS, PAC) and the auxiliary coagulants(Loess, R-calmont) on raw water. The leaching test of the auxiliary coagulant showed that the loess contained a lot of Al, Fe and Mn. On the reverse, the R-calmont was a little. Most of the loess were composed of $SiO_{2}$ 53.25%, $Al_{2}O_{3}$ 29.28%, $Fe_{2}O_{3}$ 10.73% and Si/Al ratio was 3.08. In using both LAS vs. loess and PAC vs. loess as the coagulated material, the removal of residual aluminum was the highest as 96.3%, 96.6% respectively, and that of the residual turbidity was 95.0% when PAC vs. R-calmont was dosed 0.2mg/L. Also, loess showed better than R-calmont in the removable efficiency of aluminum and turbidity. When the setting time of auxiliary coagulant was input ar the same time with coagulant, the removal aluminum was the highest as 93.3% to 96.6%.

  • Cement and paraffin waste form were prepared with a acid extraction method for the analysis of radionuclides generated from nuclear power plants. The acid extraction method was carried out with $HNO_3-HCl$ acid. At first, we compared the method with the microwave acid digestion method using SRM. The solutions of decomposed SRM were then analyzed by AAS and ICP-AES. The acid extraction method had shown good results as microwave acid digestion method. This method provided recovery values greater than $80\%$ for metallic elements.

  • Rare earth elements with high purity are demanded for the manufacture of advanced materials. Light rare earth elements are contained in domestic monazite and Ni-MH batteries. In this paper, solvent extraction to separate the light rare earth elements from hydrochloric acid leaching solutions of these resources was discussed. A mixture of cationic and tertiary amine shows synergistic effect on the extraction of LREEs and the extent of pH decrease during extraction is reduced. The effect of solution pH on the extraction and synergism was reviewed. Acquisition of the operation data with mixer-settler on the separation of LREEs by this mixture is necessary to develop a process.

  • To obtain insightful knowledge of geochemical process controlling fluoride enrichment in groundwater of the villages near Shilabati river bank, West Bengal, India, multivariate statistical techniques were applied to a subgroup of the dataset generated from major ion analysis of groundwater samples. Water quality analysis of major ion chemistry revealed elevated levels of fluoride concentration in groundwater. Factor analysis (FA) of fifteen hydrochemical parameters demonstrated that fluoride occurrence was due to the weathering and dissolution of fluoride-bearing minerals in the aquifer. A strong positive loading (> 0.75) of fluoride with pH and bicarbonate for FA indicates an alkaline dominated environment responsible for leaching of fluoride from the source material. Mineralogical analysis of soli sediment exhibits the presence of fluoride-bearing minerals in underground geology. Hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) was carried out to isolate the sampling sites according to groundwater quality. With HCA the sampling sites were isolated into three clusters. The occurrence of abundant fluoride in the higher elevated area of the observed three different clusters revealed that there was more contact opportunity of recharging water with the minerals present in the aquifer during infiltration through the vadose zone.

  • Studies were carried out to establish the technology for sodium-clad compatibility and to analyze the compatibility behavior of the Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor (SFR) cladding material under a flowing sodium environment. The natural circulation facility caused by the thermal convection of the liquid sodium was constructed and the 316-series stainless steels were exposed at $650{^{\circ}C}$ liquid sodium for 1458 hours. The weight change and related microstructural change were analyzed. The results showed that the quasi-dynamic facility represented by the natural convection exhibited similar results compared to the conventional dynamic facility. Selective leaching and local depletion of the chromium, re-distribution of the carbide, and the decarburization process took place in the 316-series stainless steel under a flowing sodium environment. This process decreased as the sodium flowed along the channel, which was caused by the change in the dissolved oxygen and carbon activity in the liquid sodium.

  • The liquid lead-lithium (Pb-17Li) blanket has many applications in fusion reactors due to its good tritium breeding performance, high heat transfer efficiency and safety. The compatibility of liquid Pb-17Li alloy with the structural material of blanket under magnetic field is one of the concerns. In this study, corrosion experiments China low activation martensitic (CLAM) steel and 316L steel were carried out in a forced convection Pb-17Li loop under 1.0 T magnetic field at 480 ℃ for 1000 h. The corrosion results on 316L steel showed the characteristic with a superficial porous layer resulted from selective leaching of high-soluble alloy elements and subsequent phase transformation from austenitic matrix to ferritic phase. Then the porous layers were eroded by high-velocity jet fluid. The main corrosion mechanism of CLAM steel was selective dissolution-base corrosion attack on the microstructure boundary regions and exclusively on high residual stress areas. CLAM steel performed a better corrosion resistance than that of 316L steel. The high Ni dissolution rate and the erosion of corroded layers are the main causes for the severe corrosion of 316L steel.

  • With the increasing demand for electronic products, the amount of multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) waste has also increased. Recycling technology has recently gained attention because it can simultaneously address raw material supply and waste disposal issues. However, research on recovering valuable metals from MLCCs and converting the recovered metals into high-value-added materials remains insufficient. Herein, we describe an electrospinning (E-spinning) process to recover nickel from MLCCs and modulate the morphology of the recovered nickel oxide particles. The nickel oxalate powder was recovered using organic acid leaching and precipitation. Nickel oxide nanoparticles were prepared via heat treatment and ultrasonic milling. A mixture of nickel oxide particles and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was used as the E-spinning solution. A PVP/NiO nanowire composite was fabricated via E-spinning, and a nickel oxide nanowire with a network structure was manufactured through calcination. The nanowire diameters and morphologies are discussed based on the nickel oxide content in the E-spinning solution.
