  • Microwave dielectric properties of the layered and functionally graded materials (FGMs) of $Mg_{0.93}Ca_{0.07}TiO_3$ (MCT) and $(Ca_{0.3}Li_{0.14}Sm_{0.42})TiO_3$(CLST) were investigated as a function of the volume ratio of two components. Dielectric constant was decreased with an increase of the volume ratio of MCT which had a lower dielectric constant thant CLST. For the layered FGMs specimens, the difference of thermal expansion coefficients between two components induced thermal strain to dielectric layers, which was confirmed by the plot of ${\Delta}$k (X-ray diffraction peak width0 versus k (scattering vector) using the double-peak Lorentzian function, f(x). Quality factor of the specimens was affected by the thermal strain of dielectric layer, especially MCT layer. For the specimen with the volume ratio of MCT/CLST = 2, the qulaity factor of the specimen showed a minimum value due to the maximum thermal strain fo MCT layer.

  • The layer charge densities and interlayer C. E. C(cation exchange capacity) of ten mica-type aluminosilicates from Yong-il Pohang-prefacture were determined by n-alkylammonium method which is based on the mo-nolayer-doubelelayer structural transition of ni-alkylammonium ion in interlayer space of the layered silcates. The upper and lower limits of layer charge and interlyer C, E, C estimated were about 0.25~0.36 eq/(Si, $Al)_4$ O10 and 69~99meq/100g, respectively.

  • Ceramic layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanohybrids have attracted considerable interest in biomedical science due to their unique structural feature and characteristics in biological condition. Many studies on LDH nanoparticles have been reported in diagnosis applications including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents in order to not only provide better imaging performance through multimodal imaging strategy, but realize therapeutic function which treat cancers in one platform. This review highlights the recent progress in MRI T1 contrast agent, dual modal imaging system, and MRI-guided drug delivery systems ranging from synthetic method and characterization to evaluation in vitro and in vivo based on the ceramic LDH nanohybrids. Future research directions are also suggested for next-generation bio-imaging contrast agent.

  • Ferroelectric Sr0.8Bi2.4Ta2O9 stock solutions were prepared by MOD(Metaloganic Decompostion) process. The phase transformation for the layered perovskite of the SBT thin films by changing RTA(Rapid her-mal Annealing) temperatuer from 700$^{\circ}C$to 780$^{\circ}C$ were observed using XRD and SEM. Layered perovskite phase began to appear above 740$^{\circ}C$ and then SBT thin films were annealed at 800$^{\circ}C$ for 1hr for its com-plete crystallization. The specimens showed well shaped hysteresis curves without post annealing that car-ried out after deposition of Pt top electrode. The SBT thin films showed the asymmetric ferroelectric pro-perties. It was confirmed that the properties were caused by interface effect to SBT and electrode by leak-age current density measurement and asymmetric properties reduced by post annealing. At post annealing temperature of 800$^{\circ}C$ remanant polarization values (2Pr) were 6.7 9 ${\mu}$C/cm2 and those of leakage current densities were 3.73${\times}$10-7 1.32${\times}$10-6 A/cm2 at 3, 5V respectively. Also bismuth bonding types of SBT thin film surface were observed by XPS.

  • Layered-type dielectric waveguide filters were designed. As the order of layers increased the fabrication process for dielectric waveguide filters which the resonator parts were connected by the lateral direction has many difficulties. The proposed structure in this report was designed based on the layered-type for the some parts of resonators. The size of layered-type dielectric waveguide filters installed on the PCB surface were reduced at 25% as compared with the usual waveguide filters by using a relative dielectric constant 22.

  • In solid oxide fuel cell system, yttria-stabilized zirconia is generally adopted as the electrolyte, which has high strength and superior oxygen ion conductivity, and the air electrode and the fuel electrode are attached to this. Recently, new structure of 'layered planar SOFC module' was suggested to solve the reliability problem due to the high temperature stability of a sealing agent and a binding material. In this study to materialize the air electrode in a layered planar SOFC module, the LSM ink was coated to form homogeneous electrode in the channel after the ink preparation. As the porosity control agent, PMMA or active carbon powder was adopted with use of a commercial dispersant in ethanol. The optimal amounts of both the porosity control agents and the dispersant were determined. Four (4) vol% of the dispersant for the LSM-PMMA case and 15 vol% for LSM-carbon powder showed the lowest viscosities respectively to indicate the best dispersed states of the slurries. With PMMA and carbon powder, sintered LSM ink shows the relatively homogeneous distributions of pores and with increases of the agents, the porosities increased in both cases. From this, it can be thought that the amount of the PMMA or carbon powder could be used to control the porosity of the LSM ink.

  • Doping effect of various ions in Bi-layered ferroelectric $SrBi_2$$Nb_2$$O_{9}$ (SBN) ceramics was studied. Undoped SBN ceramic and SBN ceramics doped with $Ba^{2+}$, $Pb^{2+}$,$ Ca^{2+}$ , $Bi^{3+}$ , $La^{3+}$ , $Ti^{4+}$ , $Mo^{6+}$ , and $W^{6+}$ ions were made by a solid state reaction. Dielectric constants were measured with temperature. Ferroelectric transition temperature decreased with $Pb^{2+}$ , $Ba^{2+}$ , $La^{3+}$ doping, but the transition temperature increased with $Ca^{2+}$ , $Bi^{3+}$ , $Ti^{4+}$, $Mo^{6+}$ , or$ W^{6+}$ ionic doping. These results show that the ion size plays an important role in the ferroelectricity of SBN ceramic.

  • Vermiculite-silica composites with a layered structure were fabricated by adding cellulose fibers as a pore former and by a simple uniaxial pressing and subsequent sintering process. Three different combinations of additives were used and their effects on the compressive strength and thermal conductivity of the composites were investigated. Both compressive strengths (42-128 MPa) and thermal conductivities (0.75-1.48 $W/m{\cdot}K$) in the direction perpendicular to the pressing direction (T) were higher than those (19-81 MPa and 0.32-1.04 $W/m{\cdot}K$) in the direction parallel to the pressing direction (S) in all samples. The anisotropy in both properties was attributed to the microstructural anisotropy, which was caused by the layered structure developed in the composites.

  • ZT/PZT/ZT multi-layered thin films were deposited on silicon substrate by co-sputtering method for FEMFET device application. Effects of Pb/(Zr+Ti) ratio, films thickness, annealing conditions and substrate temperature on the ferroelectric behavior of the multi-layered films were studied. The best memory device characteristics with leakage current of 2$\times$10-8 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and breakdown field of about 1 MV/cm could be obtained with ZT(250 $\AA$) / PZT(1000 $\AA$)/ZT(750 $\AA$) multi-layered thin film deposited at 35$0^{\circ}C$ and post-annealed at $700^{\circ}C$ for 120 sec by RTA(Rapid Thermal Annealing).
