  • Durability of concrete structures is seriously compromised by cracking at early-age concretes, particularly in high-strength or high-performance concrete structures. Since early-age cracking is influenced by various factors that affect the hydration process, early-age shrinkage and stress/strain development, the behavior at early-age is highly complex and no rational methodologies for its control have yet been established. Concrete structures often present volumetrical changes particularly due to thermal and moisture related shrinkages. Volumetric instability is detrimental to the performance and durability of concrete structures because structural elements are usually restrained. These restrained shrinkages develope tensile stresses which often results in cracking in combination with the low fracture resistance of concrete. Early-age defects in high-performance concrete due to thermal and autogenous deformation shorten the life cycle of concrete structures. Thus, it is necessary to examine the behavior of early-age concrete at the stages of design and construction. The purpose of this study was to propose a shrinkage models of VES-LMC (very-early strength latex-modified concrete) at early-age considering thermal deformation and autogenous shrinkage.

  • 공극구조 분석 방법은 ASTM C 457의 리니어트레버스 포인트카운트법이 있으나, 이러한 방법들은 분석하는데 시간과 노력이 너무 많이 소요되어 현재에는 거의 사용되어지지 않고 있다. 근래에는 현미경과 디지털 카메라, 컴퓨터의 프로그램 발달로 화상분석법이 많은 연구자에 의해 연구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 화상분석법을 통하여 라텍스개질 콘크리트의 공극 구조 특성을 분석하고자 시멘트 종류(보통포틀랜드시멘트, 초속경시멘트)와 라텍스 혼입율(0,15%)에 따라 실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과, 라텍스는 경화 후 콘크리트에서 AE제의 공기연행효과보다 더 우수한 연행공기 량을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 화상분석법을 이용할 경우 경화 후 콘크리트 내부 공극 구조에 대한 다양한 정보를 분석할 수 있을 것으로 판단되었다.

WIM 센서 설치에 적합한 실런트 개발을 위한 기초적인 연구 (Fundamental Study on Development of Sealants used for WIM Sensor Installation)

  • PURPOSES : This study aims to develop a sealant for use in the installation of Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) sensor for asphalt concrete or cement concrete pavements. METHODS : In order to investigate the properties of various sealants that were mixed with latex and carbon fiber, various test methods were adopted, such as bituminous bond strength test, softening point test, and cone penetration test. To evaluate moisture susceptibility, the BBS test was conducted under moist condition. The bond strength ratio (BSR) was calculated based on tensile strength ratio method. RESULTS : The sealant's properties significantly varied according to the amount of latex or carbon fiber. The usage of latex marginally enhanced the cone penetration test result, notwithstanding reduced asphalt content. This implies that the sealant will be proper cold temperature reason. Moreover, the addition of latex and carbon fiber evidently increased the softening point. This indicates that the tendency of the material to flow at elevated temperatures is encountered during service. With the addition of latex and carbon fiber, the moisture susceptibility measured with BSR improved marginally, while the bond strength under dry condition decreased marginally. Sealant F displays the highest bond strength and BSR under limited test conditions. CONCLUSIONS : According to the proportion of latex and carbon fiber mixed, properties of sealant, such as softening point, cone penetration, and BSR varied marginally. This indicates that the sealant has to be applied considering the environmental condition, to improve service life.

콘크리트 교면 덧씌우기를 위한 SB 라텍스개질 콘크리트의 현장적용성 평가 (Field Applicability Evaluation of SB Latex-Modified Concrete for Concrete Bridge Deck Overlay)

  • 본 연구에서는 콘크리트 덧씌우기를 위한 SB 라텍스개질 콘크리트의 현장적용성 평가를 위해 현장에서 모빌믹서를 이용하여 배합실험 하여 작업성, 강도발현특성 및 투수특성을 등을 고찰하였다. 이를 위해 주요 실험변수는 라텍스 혼입률(0, 5, 10, 15, 20%), W/C (31, 33, 35 37%), S/a(55, 56, 57, 58%) 를 선정하였으며, 초기슬럼프, 슬럼프 손실, 공기량, 압축강도 및 휨인장강도 발현특성, 염화이온 촉진 실험 등을 수행하였다. 실험결과, 모빌믹서차량을 이용해서 SB라텍스개질 콘크리트를 현장에서 배합하였을 때 충분한 작업성 및 양질의 콘크리트를 생산 할 수 있었으며 목표 압축강도와 휨강도를 얻을 수 있었다. 모빌믹서 차량을 이용한 배합은 실내실험에서 제시된 최적배합의 동일한 작업조건을 얻기 위한 물-시멘트비가 다소 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 초기 배출 슬럼프 $19{\pm}3cm$을 얻기 위한 실내실험 배합은 물-시멘트비 37%였으나, 모빌믹서차량을 이용한 경우는 33%의 물-시멘트비를 나타내었다. 또한, 현장 적용에 있어서도 모빌믹서를 이용한 정확한 계량 및 라텍스의 혼입으로 양질의 콘크리트 생산 및 성능개선을 기대할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

현장실험을 통한 VES-LMC 균열발생 원인분석 (Diagnosis of Crack Occurrence of Very-Early Strength Latex-Modified Concretes through Field Tests)

  • Many concrete bridge decks develop transverse cracking shortly after construction. These cracks accelerate corrosion of reinforcing steel and lead to concrete deterioration, damage to components beneath the deck, unsightly appearance. These cracks shorten the service life and increase maintenance costs of bridge structures. In this study, VES-LMC overlay, which provides the same benefits as a conventional overlay, is designed to cure very quickly. Although the materials for VES overlays are more expensive, the cost is more than offset by the savings on traffic control and work zone safety measures. Otherwise, reaction of hydration occurs very rapidly in beginning step(concrete placing). As a results, thermal cracking can be occur by thermal stress in accordance with hydration-heat The purpose of this study was to estimate diagnosis of crack occurrence of VES-LMC through field tests at early-age.

  • Very-Early-Strength Latex-Modified Concrete(VESLMC) provides the repairing material with short curing time as well as excellent bond strength, flexural strength and impermeability against water and chloride. In 2001, VESLMC introduced in Korea and improved superior material through research and development on material properties and durability. In 2003, the field test progressed for study problems of VESLMC field application. This paper introduced equipment improvement for bridge deck repair save both repair time and labor, while producing quality VESLMC structures.

고로슬래그 미분말을 이용한 SBR혼입 폴리머 시멘트 콘크리트의 강도특성 (Strength Properties of SBR-Modified Concretes Using Ground Granulated Blast-Furnace Slag)

  • 본 연구에서는 고로슬래그 미분말을 이용한 SBR혼입 폴리머 시멘트 콘크리트의 강도 성상에 미치는 고로슬래그 치환율 및 폴리머 결합재비의 영향에 대하여 구명하였다. 그 결과, 고로슬래그 미분말을 이용한 SBR혼입 폴리머 시멘트 콘크리트의 압축, 인장 및 휨강도는 폴리머-결합재비 및 고로슬래그 치환율의 증가에 따라 증가하였으며, 고로슬래그 치환율 40%에서 가장 높은 강도를 나타내었다. 특히 고로슬래그 치환율 40%의 SBR혼입 폴리머 시멘트 콘크리트의 인장 및 휨강도는 폴리머 미혼입의 강도보다 약 2배 이상의 높은 강도를 보였다. 이와 같이 높은 강도의 발현은 SBR 폴리머의 높은 인장강도와 SBR라텍스의 혼입에 의한 시멘트 수화물과 골재간의 접착성이 개선되었기 때문이라 판단된다.

  • Latex Modified Concrete(LMC) has been widely used for the pavement of highway bridges over the past 35years around the world since it is more resistant to the intrusion of chloride ions, has higher tensile, compressive, and flexural strength, and has greater freeze-thaw resistance. However, in Korea, it has not been introduced to fields due to higher initial construction cost for its overlay compared with that of conventional pavement materials. Due to durable characteristics, it should be noted that the LMC may be more cost-effective than conventional pavements such as asphalt pavement, when life-cycle cost(LCC) concept is considered. The objective of this study is intended to suggest a practical LCC analysis model for pavement projects and to demonstrate relative cost-effectiveness of the LMC overlays in comparison with conventional pavement techniques. It may be stated that the procedure proposed in this study may be utilized for making optimal decision on cost-effective pavement design.

  • Reinforced Concrete structures need repair and rehabilitation due to the deterioration such as crack, spalling and disintegration. Numerous repair materials which are currently used in cinstruction fields witdout any specifications are examined in terms of their serviceabilities and effectiveness. In this paper sections of R/C beams are enlarged with repari material(epoxy, latex, premix), and then they are strengthened with rebar, steel plate of CFRP sheet on the tension side. Structural behaivior of strengthened beams are investigated under stactic tests and compared with each parameters.

황산염에 노출된 구조용 합성섬유와 라텍스 개질 시멘트 모르타르의 부착특성에 미치는 광물질 혼화재의 효과 (Effect of Mineral Admixture on Bond between Structural Synthetic Fiber and Latex Modified Cement Mortar under Sulfate Environments)

  • It has been well known that concrete structures exposed to acid and sulfate environments such as sewer etc. show significant decrease in their durability due to chemical attack. Such deleterious acid and sulfate attacks lead to expansion and cracking in concrete, and thus, eventually result in damage to cement mortar by forming expansive hydration products due to the reaction between cement hydration products and acid and sulfate ions. In this study, the effect of fly ash and blast furnace slag on the bond performances of structural synthetic fiber in latex modified cement mortar under sulfate environments. Fly ash and blast furnace slag contents ranging from 0 % to 20 % are used in the mix proportions. The latex modified cement mortar specimens were immersed in fresh water, 8 % sodium sulfate ($Na_2SO_4$) solutions for 28 and 50 days, respectively. Pullout tests are conducted to measure the bond performance of structural synthetic fiber from latex modified cement mortar after sulfate environments exposure. Test results are found that the incorporation of fly ash and blast furnace slag can effectively enhance the PVA fiber-latex modified cement mortar interfacial bond properties (bond behavior, bond strength and interface toughness) after sulfate environments exposure. The microstructural observation confirms the findings on the interface bond mechanism drawn from the fiber pullout test results under sulfate environments.
